Yeah, maybe. I just mean that getting a nice, worn-in patina on a Hermes strap is desirable, and I wonder if, a year down the road, people will start to complain that their fancy new leather strap is "wearing out" or whatever.
I don't see the Hermès crowd complaining about it. Certainly not the 50ish woman who was casually debating the Double Tour vs the Rose Gold Edition.

At $1100-$1500 this Watch is dirt cheap by Hermès standards.

However, the Hermes face isn't the only reason nor it's even a reason for getting a Hermes AW.
Exactly. Here is why I got it.

1) It's exclusive. Even Chicago doesn't have a Hermès store or a place to get one. You can buy a $17,000 Rose Gray Leather Edition but not this.
2) It's cheap by Hermès standards.
3) It's coveted by the fashion-conscious crowd. I'm known for dressing up. This fits right in.

Fashion isn't rational. The quicker people realize this the quicker they realize that this watch makes a lot of sense for Apple to sell.

Good point. I'd hope the audience knows what they're getting, and they likely do.

It's actually the most elegant face available on the AW. Apple's stock analog faces are poorly proportioned, as manufacturers of luxury rectangular watches tend to use a rectangular dial that follows the perimeter. I'd actually like to see Apple release more elegant stock faces with a rectangular dial and the complications located inside the dial.

However, the Hermes face isn't the only reason nor it's even a reason for getting a Hermes AW.

The round dials certainly seem to be influenced by Newson's analog watch designs. I personally love the Apple Watch Chronograph dial's circular design, but I'd welcome a more square option.

I'm personally using the Simple face but with no numbers in order not to accentuate how small the dial is (like what you see on the Chronograph face). A more elegant version of the current Simple face would be the following (although what I really want is for the dial/numbers to follow the perimeter of the watch body):

Yeah, I guess I'm so used to looking at that Ikepod Manatee that I never really considered the round faces too small. The proportions of the dial you pictured look a little off to me, because the dial is so close to the sides. Plus, I use complications with the Chrono face, so the space in corners in welcome. Either way, a face with numbers on the perimeter would be a good option.

They are letting 4 into the vault at at time at the UES Apple Store. There is a line of about 6 in front of me and in back of me. They are trying to make it a personal experience.

That's where I got mine. I lined up 45 minutes early. I was 5th in line and I believe the first guy in.

I snagged a 42mm single tour in fauve. I was told there was a shipment delay and I got the second (and last) of the 42mm in fauve.

I love everything about it. The bag. The box. The strap. The faces. Worth the flight up.

Good thing we weren't competing. How many were in line when the doors opened? I passed by Hermès at 8:55 and there were 4 in line. I was tempted but decided to take my chances at UES. I'm glad I did. By the time I walked back to Hermès there were about 40 in line at Hermès.

Likewise. I have a theory that Apple intentionally withheld the native square watch face in order to enhance the exclusivity around the Hermes co-brand, considering that they brokered the deal over a year ago, before the watch was announced. It's the same reason they likely withheld the anodized gold & rose gold Sports, to emphasize the exclusivity of the Edition (speaking of which Tim Cook said the Edition would be sold in very limited quantities ... so how many is that if it's still for sale 6 months later?).

It's really scandalous that they created a square watch design, but only offer round watch faces. It's hysterical really.

Just stopped by at the Hermes on Madison. The Hermes bands are gorgeous. I tried on a single tour and a double tour. The double tour surprised me. It's very comfortable to wear, and makes the watch seem smaller on my wrist. I thought if I were to get a Hermes watch it'd be the single tour, but now I'm totally in love with the double. Never thought I'd contemplate giving up my Space Grey Sport, but if someone were to give me a Hermes double tour, I'd switch in a heartbeat!

Nice. Did they get any more stock today?

I think that's a bit too conspiratorial. Marc Newson designed this thing, and he's very into circle dial on square body, as my pics above show. It's as simple as that, really.

They were telling us they only had a single color each of the single and double tour. Sorry, I don't remember which color they had. This was right around closing time. We didn't ask when they might get in more. They did offer to take down our names and contact us when they get in the color I wanted.

Perhaps 20? The line grew consistently.

After a day's use in Manhattan the wear is already visible. Sweat discoloration mostly.

I took it to Rolex, Omega, Wempe, Torneau, etc. Some of the traditional watch people liked it; others didn't understand what it was.

Hoping they're back in stock by the time I go get one on Friday. I wonder if Apple is prioritizing inventory for their own stores like they do for the iPhone.

Interesting. Mine looks like new. I did manage to get it wet washing my hands but it dried right away. It will develop a patina, which is just fine with me.

You could go Fifth Ave, Hermes, Upper East Side, or the other way around. They are all kinda within walking distance.

Here's an unboxing vid. Cut him a break on the pronunciation of Hermes cause he shows how to customize the face.

His pronunciation actually isn't bad, especially when I called Apple and keep hearing "AIR MAY" and "HER MEEEZ". =D

So what happens when the strap wears out, or the owner just wants a fresh one? Will they sell a replacement strap? Which of course begs the question, will they sell a replacement strap without the watch present? I would love the single Tour :D

BTW It's pronounced AIRMEZ.

Was told by the rep that Hermes would be responsible for the strap. I'm guessing it could be sent back to their atelier in France for a fee.

No one got a double tour?
UES didn't get any in this morning. I don't know about later in the day. They had them for try-ons, though. Oddly they had no Single Tours for try-ons but had them in stock at opening. I got the penultimate one.
