lots of angry people in this thread

i think it's hilarious how so many of you are talking about buying the next macbook while the rest of us are sitting here typing on our perfectly fine soon-to-be-outdated-but-pretty-great-machine-no-matter-what-comes-next macbooks

thanks for the laughs you guys

Why is it funny? People are just waiting for the refresh to get the most out of their purchase. Wouldn't you rather have the latest generation processor if you had the choice?

codo, you got it exactly. Personally, I don't play games on my computers with a few exceptions. None of them require a whole lot of power graphics wise and Spore is probably the highest, and I am pretty sure that will run fine on a current 13" MBP.

Unless Apple sneaks in some big new things (which I don't think they will) then you are missing nothing but a speed bump.

please please please

for Gods sake, do not defend the 9400M.
We live in a capitalistic world, where you as a consumer should defend customers and not the supplier. What is inside of macs, depends on the demand and supply structure (not only, but it is the main factor). If you and a major part of the consumers say, well 9400 is enough. They WILL NOT WANT TO UPDATE MACS. If we, however, whine about how crappy it is - and YES ITS IS AN OUTDATED CRAP THAT WAS CRAPPY EVEN WHEN IT CAME OUT BECAUSE IT IS 50% WORSE THAN 8600 FROM 2007- (if we wine) then apple will have to change things.

It is capitalism, it is not what apple whants, it is the average of what WE and Apple want.

If you defend 9400, you are only doing harm to what's inside macs!!! Have some responsibility! And don't be offended please, it is just how it works.

So please, everyone, start crying about how outdated macbooks pro are!

People who do not aspire to be better should not post on these forums.

I know many of you are not like me, but computers, hardware, CPUs, Motherboards etc are my hobby and Job. I love them.

No update today hurts me. I already own a current gen MBP. I get a new MBP every new generation. I just sell my current MBP for a reasonable loss online to someone who doesnt care and then spend ~ $600 ish for a brand new up to date computer.

But the longer Apple waits, the less my computer will be worth. Those bastards and their billions of dollars. :)

This.

I hate when people just settle for average. Lame. I hate the "It does what I need excuse"

Until you can download the internet in 1 click in 0.25 seconds, computers will never be fast enough. This isnt like driving a car where you have a speed limit...

Sigh people.... I guess ignorance is bliss though. Something that I hate about Apple loyalists. (I am a strict Apple user, but I have a brain, with knowledge of hardware, money, product cycles, and business models.) SO i dont want to hear it. Just enjoy your OLD Core 2 Duo MBP and stop wasting everyones time on these forums.

Disappointed? Yes. Happy with the C2D MBP I bought two weeks ago? Yes.

I would have preferred to have had the choice to buy an i5 but I needed some time to break it in before I start university next month. Even so, I'm elated by the performance improvement over my old Core Duo MacBook Pro.

Let's see...

A 119% increase in bzip2 compression speed.

A 64% increase using the 9400M and a 135% increase using the 9600M GT (according to OpenMark).

A 52% increase (32-bit) and a 60% increase (64-bit) in GeekBench.

Everything will always inevitably get faster. If you have the time to wait then wait. If you don't then buy now. They work and they are fast.

Then again, I hear old Macs explode once something new comes out. It's the same with software.

a) You don't need that more then the 9400 unless you are some gamer, and most people aren't 12 year old gamers so they don't need it.

b) whining have nothing to do with the free market, not buying or buying on the other hand will. The problem is most people will still buy a computer with the 9400, see a).

c) The 9400 is a good tradeoff between graphic performance and heat/battery life. I would not trade a single second of battery life for higher graphic performance, as this is a laptop.

Isn't the most important thing that it does the things you do? I rather think the retarded whiners should stop clogging up the forums. It seems most people settle for average, most people do not run the top of the line computer with maxxed ram and an SSD and whatnot. But I hope you will do it once they update, the most expensive one + the best SSD there is. If you do not you are just some hypocrite.

You would have to be doing some serious cutting edge, high paying work to think of the current line up as outdated hardware.

The problem is not only having the latest hardware.
If someone already has an apple laptop it is fine but if he doesn' t and needs a good apple laptop, for exemple a 15" mbp 2.8ghz with antiglare at 2349$, and makes the mistake of looking at other laptop makers, he could see that they can offer better specs laptop for 1k$.
Those other makers probably still make some profit so that means apple make at least that much profit (apple build quality is higher but it is uses older /cheaper hardware) + an extra free 1349$ profit.
Making a small premium is certainly ok thanks to their batterylife/build quality/looks/os but here, more than 2x the price for less specs is a total lack of respect for their customers.
The arrogance apple shows by ripping their customers when they don't even try to keep reasonably (~230 days certainly seems reasonable enough ) up to date hardware or pricing because their customers can't choose other official hardware if they want to use apple's os is just disgusting and certainly makes you want to look elsewhere.
I have much respect for true believers willing to pay 2349$ now, their laptop will probably work well and do everything they need but they have just dropped their pants and given their rear and 1349$ to Steve.;)

I still wait for someone to find me a unibody alu computer with a multitouch touchpad and the 7 hour battery life I got, with the same specs, for the price I had to pay for my MBP. In Sweden I haven't found any computer like that. I rather spend twice as much and be happier then I would have been with the cheaper one, it is only money anyway, you can always get more of that.

Yes mpb battery life is nice and you will certainly be happy with that mbp but your rear will still hurt knowing that steve just got a free deluxe sofa thanks to you.

And why wouldn't he? It's a free market, if there were alternatives I would buy that if it was cheaper ofc, but there are none. Why would I be mad about Steve being sucessful? I am not some failed high school dropout so I don't care.

noob

First post.

Well guys i have to say iv had quite a laugh reading through this.

People getting mad at people going mad about no updates - LOL.

Im also eagerly awaiting updates on the new MBP. Finally after having some money in the bank i can afford one.

Im certainly not angry about it, a little disappointed maybe as i really want to get started but its just one of these things. Whether its next week or in June the wait will be worth it.

While i wouldnt really make use of the specs, surely its a case of getting the best value for your money? People are people and they usually want the latest thing. When im going to spend £1500 on something i really want that to go as far as possible.

How about MBP refresh - in March?

Agreed, no reason for Apple to dilute their iPad launch with mention of in-house competition from their own MBP line. So maybe when the iPad ships ... the MBP updates can be announced.

I'd like a 13" with anti-glare glass, please. The processor and graphics are already fast enough (though I'd be happy with discrete graphics in the 13" if that were offered)

I couldn't agree more, the only other possibility is that Apple release via a silent update before the iPad release.

Does anyone know what Apple history shows in regards to new products taking pride of place on the apple webpage front?

If a new macbook pro line were to be released before the iPad would the Macbook Pro replace the iPads big advertisement? Just as the iPad replaced the new iMac before it.

I always have and always will. Thats what being a computer hardware enthusiast is all about :)

Yeah perhaps, I do not pay more then I need for something I do not use. If I do not need more power then something that costs $1500 I won't pay $1800 for something more powerful. I got the basic 13" MBP (2.26 Ghz) for $1800 here in Sweden when it first came out, and instead I got an Intel 160GB SSD, that gave me more then needed power. Paying more for something I don't need will not make me happier.

I'm a little confused as to why people think a MBP refresh would somehow take business away from the iPad. I mean, do you really think that those products serve the same demographic? I guess I just don't see how a silent refresh would rain on the iPad parade.

You do realize that games aren't the only software that utilize GPUs, right? I won't bother listing 3rd party apps that benefit from better cards, but you might want to do some research on OpenCL.

You're right, two different markets, well, when I say "markets" I do of course mean Apple is yet to create the market for the iPad. A point to argue over? Perhaps but i'll continue.

I just don't have enough faith in what the iPad does to be a major game changer, that is purely my own opinion. I feel it needs all the help it can get and if a update that draws attention away from the iPad prevails then Steve Jobs most important achievement (Future tense?) will not see the light of day for very long. I simply think that Apple are biding there time before releasing the updated Macbook Pro line, a June release seems to make the most sense from a marketing perspective because of the impending iPad release.

It may be unlikely that people will choose to go for a new spec, lets say 13" Macbook Pro over an iPad device but I suppose Apple don't want to take that chance at the launch of a major new product.

Just my 2 cents, flame away.

That is exactly what I want.. 13" anti glare. been waiting for that since the day unibodies came out (which feels like forever). the specs are decent enough because anything today is x faster than the g4 I was using recently. although I would love to have the latest and greatest specs. so I wait

It's funny how this thread is labeled about disappointment in no announcement of the new MBP's yesterday yet people still post on here and tell others that they are stupid for being disappointed and upset.

Then you have your typical defender of their latest purchase. Well, you won't be upgrading when Apple refreshes their MBP line. So why are you here posting that you are happy with your recent purchase when you knew the new MBP's were coming soon? You are looking for justification as to why you plopped down a few grand for old tech. You won't get it here.

Then you have your group of people who are disappointed and actually posting under the right topic. The first two examples of people are what is funny about this thread.

I agree entirely. Those who are waiting, are only trying to get the most out of their dollar. Nothing wrong with that.

Shut up

I would really like my first Macbook Pro but come on Apple... I have friends urging me to buy something else (windows) just because Apple can't get their models updated frequently. I know these things are just rumors here but at least Apple could give customers a realistic timeline and keep potential buyers in the loop.

I guess the most frustrating thing is they are much more concerned about launching the iPad. Updating laptops, etc have become second fiddle.
