I only use my phone at home for instagram, as I still dont understand why it isnt on the ipad.....
I will be comparing the mini and 12pro to make a decision - no rush at all given my 11pro is still tip top and I have barely left the house in the last 112 days.
You can use the Instagram phone app on the iPad though, I do. It’s scaled well for iPad

If I had an 11 Pro, I wouldn’t even be considering upgrading personally. The differences must be absolutely minimal.

Unless your iPhone is your main computer, the size of the 12Pro is all one really needs and you can use the one that you have at home, iPad or MacBook for the bigger screen. This is why I would not carry a larger iPhone such as the max. Not needed for what most use it for, and not really that much more real estate as for the print is concerned. Somewhat larger, but not all that much.
This. I was using a Samsung S9+ (6.2inch) and upgraded to Samsung Note 10+ (6.8inch), having the perception that bigger screen is the way to go. However, the phone is too "large and long" for prolong use. I am refreshing my local telco online store and can't get to switch over to iPhone 12 Pro...

So I’ve made my decision and will return the 12 Pro and get the 12 Pro Max.

The smaller 12 Pro is more manageable but the better battery life and larger screen estate on the Pro Max are too hard to pass up.
Same here. I've had the 11 Pro Max for the past year and the whole time I've complained about how big it is. I was convinced that a smaller phone is what I wanted and needed but I realize that the big screen spoiled me, so back to the Max I go. The 12 Pro feels great in the hand but my eyes are demanding that larger display.

This is the first time in 11 years I'm on the fence about keeping a new iPhone. I too am coming from an XR and here are a few of my thoughts.

The size and feel is amazing, I think thats a given. But I just feel like I spent 800 (before trade-in) for a nicer camera. MY biggest gripe is actually with the screen. OLED has terrible off axis color shift and this display has a weird yellowish-green tint (true tone off) when comparing to my XR and my iPad pro 2020. True tone is really aggressive on this phone and make it super yellow in most environments. The Apple LCD calibration on their macs and iPads are some of the best in the industry so for this phone to look so off in white point and color shift is borderline unacceptable. This makes me think going OLED was just a way to sell the iPhone X/Pro and make more money because Micro LED was not yet ready for prime time. And its also a far superior display tech than OLED. Also I'm waiting to see if the stupid PWM is going to be an issue for me.

Maybe I'm being too picky? But as a heavy iPad Pro user its very jarring going between the 2 devices because of the screen. Im also a creative professional so I tend to be extra sensitive to this kind of stuff like color.

Just my thoughts....its a great phone overall. I just feel like aside from cameras its really not that huge of an upgrade day to day from many other iPhones compared to every other phone I upgraded to. Started with 3GS then upgraded in this order: 4S, 5S, 6S, XR, 12.

I returned my 12 but it was due to some dead pixels. I think I'm going to just wait and get the Pro Max since it has the best camera upgrades.

You're not being picky at all. All valid points.

I'm almost sure that I will return the 12 Pro due to the very annoying yellow tint on the OLED screen. I cannot get over it, unacceptable on a phone of this price. As I unfortunately sold my previous iPhone, I think I'll end up buying a base iPhone 11 to get me by until the iPhone 13 is released. And lesson learned: I won't buy at launch (I'll wait to read feedback and avoid a first batch) and I wont get rid of my current phone until I'm happy with the new one.

I'm kinda in this boat. I REALLY like my 12, the new design, the cameras, the smaller size, its exactly what I wanted. But the display is just so much worse than my iPad Pro and even my old XR that its making me question if its worth keeping it. I edit a ton of photos on my iPad/iPhone and having the white balance be so far off on each is driving me nuts switching between them. I have an Apple Technician call setup today to go over the display issue so I guess that will determine what I do. I really hope its something that can be worked out because I genuinely love everything else about it.

Returning my just delivered, brand new, never opened, still sealed: 12 Pro in Pacific Blue today.

Reason: picked up the same exact iPhone last weekend because the Apple.com online order took so long from pre-order (10/16).

Couldn't wait for the November window - and got pissed at Apple for taking my money in advance and not delivering it on launch day (10/23).

At least I complained to Apple about how terrible they would stock their stores on launch day but could not fulfill a pre-ordered and paid for iPhone.

They lost an Apple Card installment deal w/ trade in deal and return shipping will be on them!

Never pre-order again!

My wife and I will both be returning out 12 Pro iPhones and switching to the iPhone 12 Mini. The phone just feels too big and heavy compared to the 11 Pro (even thought the weight is about the same). We may miss the telephoto lens, but the size offsets that loss for us. If I want to take great photos zoomed in and still have portability, I will get a mirrorless camera such as the Sony RX 100 VII.

I had a gen 1 RX100 that I brought on my honeymoon and that thing was amazing.

I do the exact same thing and looking at photos side by side on my iPad Pro vs my iPhone is just terrible. The only thing I found that kind of works is putting the color filter on in accessibility that greatly improves it but its a crap shoot of experimentation to figure it out and see what works. But this works best if you have true tone on , on both devices, then do the color filter. I got a very close match holding them side -by -side.

The thing is this distorts all colors to be bluer, which throws colors when editing photos.

It depends... you really have to do a side by side on a photo so calibrate it and use the HUE setting with the slider, not the other filters And im sure every display is slightly diff. In any case....I should not have to do this on a 800 dollar phone. Apple is known for having the best color calibration out of the box for just about any device they offer......except these expensive phones that are now all OLED.

Theres a reason OLED hasnt really taken off as it should have. Its expensive, has compromises and a host of other issues like burn-in. Cant wait for Micro -LEF to be the new standard in coming years.

I’m on the verge of returning my 12 Pro because...meh...my 11 Pro was paid off.

I shoot with a Sony A7III and typically edit on my iPad Pro and I’ve always found the screen on the iPad to be markedly more accurate and crisper. Editing on any iPhone drives me nuts because of the color shift...photos always seem a bit more dull and lifeless on my phones.

Must be an OLED thing, because my old XR was almost identical to my iPad Pro's screen.

I just got my 12 Pro, and dang, the phone feels so boxy, sharp edges are truly an inferior design choice, I don't understand why reviewers don't push back a bit more against this design. Sure it looks sexy, sure it looks classic like the iPhone 4, but it's not ergonomic, the sharp edges on such a big phone is just a clear downside to me and I really hope this design doesn't stay with us for too long, I'd really love Apple to go back to round/ergonomic design.

Because of this boxy design I'm actually tempted at testing the 12 mini, it seems the boxiness might be less of an issue on a smaller form-factor (as it was with iPhone 4).

Agreed. The squared edges worked great on the smaller iPhones. But now that they’re this big in 2020, it just kind of makes the phone a bit harder to hold over the rounded edges, imo.

Another update on my yellow screen iPhone 12. I went to the Apple Store today to compare side by side to display models and mine is definitely a bit off. The Apple sales associate admitted that mine does look a little dull and yellow. The difference was subtle, but I thought the display unit screen looked great. Perhaps I’ll be doing an exchange instead of a straight up return. Either way this one is going back to Apple!

I’m kind of in the same boat. I sold my iPhone 11 Pro Max and got the iPhone 12 pro thinking I’d like smaller phone but I miss the max. I don’t know if I should get 11 pro max again or wait for the little more expensive 12 pro max

I think your decision will depend various factors. One is the availability of another 11 Pro Max (do you want it new or is used ok?). If you buy the 11 Pro Max again, is there any feature on the 12 series that you would miss. If yes, then buy the 12 Pro Max. If you really won't miss anything at all, then buy the 11 Pro Max if you can. Pricing is also a factor obviously (how much would you save by buying the 11 Pro Max vs the 12 Pro Max?). If the price difference will be low, I would go with the 12 Pro Max, IF your only issue with the 12 Pro was the overall size.

All good points, what iPhone model 11 will you be getting? I would get the 11 pro max new if I got one. Just worried the 12 pro max may be to big. There’s really nothing on the 12 pro max I need other then would be nice to have 5g when it rolls out in my area whenever that may be and the 6gb ram.

If you're concerned at all on sizing, then choose the probably less expensive 11 Pro Max. You can see if you find one in mint condition in Swappa with AppleCare+.

I will be purchasing a standard iPhone 11 as it is the best least expensive iPhone with excellent cameras (minor differences between 11 and 12 IMO). I'm coming from an iPhone 8+, therefore the 11 will be slightly smaller and lighter for me still, which is something that really matters to me. Main reasons for me wanting to upgrade from the 8+ were 1) size 2) cameras 3) "full-screen" form factor.

I'll upgrade to the 13 if Apple adds features that I expected in the 12 that did not materialize:
  1. Smaller notch
  2. Touch ID + Face ID (or at least improved Face ID; the 12 has zero improvements in this area)
  3. 120Hz screen - Not a deal breaker as I don't notice it when I switch from my iPad with ProMotion to an iPhone, BUT at $829/$999 starting prices for the non-Pro/Pro, it is expected.
If the above does not happen with the 13, then I'll just keep the 11 for another year.
