Great! Which colour are you thinking of buying? I was thinking gold to match the copious amount of bling I like to wear.

Guys at work were trying to talk me into buying two iPads. One which is your main iPad and another as your beat around. Talk about overly protective of your most worldly possession. Lolz.

Did I mention my bling already? Gold all the way baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No purchase for me. One thing I found out is that my iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad Air which I still have all three all work basically the same.

Enjoy your gold bling. Apple loves you !

From one perspective, it helps existing iPad owners. If Apple continues to improve the iPads on an annual basis AND push iOS further each year that REQUIRES the additional horsepower and features of newer iPad models there will be the continued "diminished experience" for those who don't upgrade annually.

As long as the user knows not to upgrade to the newest iOS, there shouldn't be a "diminished" experience? I am typing this on my iPad 3 on iOS 5.1.1. It is as snappy today as it was on day 1.

Now, I see your point with Apple breaking FaceTime and some apps not working anymore - but that will be no different if Apple were to slow down their development.

I'm sticking with my 1st gen iPad Mini. It still works as well as the day I got it.

A retina screen would be nice, but it's not a necessity for me.

Yup, same with me re: my iPad 3. It's still snappy as well. :)

I was also one that used the 1st gen. iPad thru to the iPad Air. Not planning to upgrade to an iPad Air 2. My Air is great and despite I was disappointed when it didn't include Touch ID since it stays at home its really a moot point.

Give me a less buggy version of iOS8 and I'll be happy. Fingers crossed that 8.1 solves some Safari screen refresh issues which are driving me crazy.

I'd really like to have a lightning port on my iPad, but I can't think of many other reasons to upgrade from my iPad 3.

I have a 64gb LTE iPad Air. My reasoning for upgrading would be if it changes or improves how i do things on it. I will almost certainly NOT be upgrading anytime soon.

Reasons for not upgrading:

Already have fast LTE cellular support
It's a very capable machine even with just 1gb of ram
Stays at home and rarely travels so security via TouchID not necessary
Great battery life
Gorgeous screen

Reasons or features that would make me upgrade in the future:

As I travel and work more, security and TouchID will be of benefit. I love it on my iphone.
If iPad could receive Apple Pay payments from iphone
Upgraded digitizer to make for more accurate stylus support. This would be a killer feature for me and i would instantly want to upgrade. I do photo editing and design so this is huge.
Upgraded Ram, but not a deal maker for me, at least for now.

Barring some major innovations to how iPad is used, my Air is a perfectly adequate and still amazing machine to me. I forsee zero must-have reasons to upgrade for now.

If I owned iPad 4 or earlier I would definitely be upgrading, but i already made the jump from the 3 to the Air and boy oh boy was it worth it.

Feel the same. I do wish I have retina (especially when I just get off using my 6+), but the iPad is a toy for me so it's not biggie. I'll probably get the 4th gen Mini next year..

I'm starting to find better uses for my time and money than paying a premium to upgrade to the latest tech, not to mention I can't think of a usage scenario in which I'd need more than what my current device offers.
I'm definitely skipping the next gen, possibly even the one after that.

At this stage the only things that would cause me to upgrade are:
- iPads come with wireless charging
- my current device is no longer supported or runs like absolute crap on the newest version of iOS.

I am waiting to see what the improvements to the rMini are. Might upgrade, might not. Hoping the size stays the same--I have a LOT of cases!

I held my August 2011 iPad 2 till August of this year and then sold for $270 so I think I'll follow the same trend. Buy Air 2 and keep till it dies or till it doesn't get anymore updates :). Apple doesn't tempt me to buy a new iPad everytime. But iPhone on the other hand... oh god.

When I bought my original iPad Mini I said that there were only two reasons I'd upgrade: a retina display, and an active digitizer ("true" stylus support). Last year rolled around, showcasing TouchID, and then I had three reasons.

Since purchasing the retina iPad mini I'm back down to two reasons - one of which is very likely to be included on this year's models, so I'm in for the upgrade. Since it's unlikely Apple will give us a true stylus in the near future I anticipate holding on to the retina iPad Mini with TouchID for at least a few years, but you never know...

Do you think Apple will add a digitizer at all? It's one of my most wanted features for an iPad to replace paper and be used for better drawing.

Definitely not upgrading. I've always been a constant phone upgrader, but iPads are a different story. I've maintained an every other gen upgrade cycle with them (1st gen->3->Air), but to be honest even that may be too short. All I really use my Air for at this point is reading comic books and academic articles. I'll do some light web browsing and gaming on it, but for the most part my phone gets most of the traffic. If I'm going to read a book, I have an e-reader. I'm starting to debate whether I really need to upgrade my iPad at all until it simply stops working. Once I'm finished with school in June It'll really be down to being a very expensive comic book reader. I have other apps on it and can do other things with it, but I find that for the most part I don't. So this is one more device that I pay for, get AppleCare for, buy a case for, etc.

I have a feeling I'll be holding onto my Air for quite some time.

I'm pretty sure Apple will have some incredible announcements that will make all of us want to upgrade immediately. They do this every year. There hasn't been an iPad announcement that has disappointed so far. Touch ID alone is worthy of an upgrade for everyone.

You have a good point about the Touch ID. For me there is the lure of a possible larger screen, somewhere down the road, that makes me hesitate. but since I have the first iPad Mini, even the iPad Air would be an incentive. I moved to that from the iPad 2 because I wanted something lighter in weight. Now, I'm interested in a larger screen so the iPad Air, or the next one introduced this month may work. That said, with the addition of Touch ID may push me in that direction.

I upgrade my phone every year, but don't feel a need on my iPad. I have a retina mini and no need to upgrade this year. Probably next year's mini, though.

I think so. Apple is slowly coming around to what others are doing and what others want (rather than leading)... 7" tablets, phablets, etc. A few others do active-digitizers, I think Apple will produce an iPad with one... one day.

My iPad 3 is getting long in the tooth. Had to back down to ios7 because 8 was just too slow. I've been using my nexus 7 a lot recently because the iPad 3 just feels like holding a brick by comparison. I'll definitely be getting a new Tablet this year. I bought a ip6 but I'll be closely evaluating the value between the iPad air 2 and the new nexus 9

The Air is so great that I think I am going to keep it for a much longer time than the last iPads. Pretty sure this year I won't be buying any iPads since I am still struggling to find a use for my retina iPad mini after buying the iPhone 6 Plus... :(
