My wife is also one of the (more than I expected I think) people who are trading down in size from the 6 to the SE. She's eagerly looking forward to the time when she can use her phone one-handed again.

I currently have a 6s and i am waiting for my SE coming on Thursday. When i was in town today i thought i would pop into a phone shop just to have a mess about with a 5s just to see if it was as good as i remembered it to be and also to see what it was like using a smaller screen again. Well all i can say is it felt brilliant it just felt right, so much easier to handle and use one handed, also the lock button being at the top and not opposite the volume buttons is much better. Everything just felt right and much lighter, i was a little worried about going to a smaller phone but i am not after today, cant wait until Thursday now, it will be like having a souped up 5s.

Just had my dispatch notice, let's hope for an early delivery! (UK, 65gb black SE direct from Apple)

I'm going to try and get a 64 GB from the Apple Store on launch day, but if I order online in the uk its delivery dates have already slipped to the 18th April So looks like this phone has quite a demand .

Dilemma:rolleyes: I am tempted to upgrade my beaten Iphone 5, but the price of the 64 GB version is just too high in my country (The Netherlands) 589 Euros that is 665 $ ! and the 16 GB version is not an option.....

Yeah, the EU tax isn't pretty. But the 6s 64GB lists € 859,00 though. So relative to the top-of-the-line it's still a good price.

- It does not have 3D Touch
- It does not have a Barometer
- Front facing camera is still 1.2mp
- Does not offer the 128GB model
- First iteration slower TouchID sensor
- No dual domain pixels
- No LTE advanced
All of this and it's still a better phone than the 6S. Says a lot about how crappy the 6S is.

Wow really the 6s is crappy?
Well if you look at the benchmarks it's the only current generation iPhone at the bottom of each rank. Abysmal battery life, awkward jutting out back camera, and a design that is just barely too wide to comfortably use with one hand... I'd say it's the worst iPhone they've ever made. It's also ridiculously overpriced.

Wow the worst iPhone ever made. Very strong words from amazing selling iPhone that is still considered one of the best smartphones to buy. If you are considering an SE aren't you just buying a smaller iPhone 6s? Oh without 2nd gen Touch ID, and 3D Touch. Sure the battery is better because the screen is much smaller. Also the design is from 2012. Sounds like best iPhone Apple has made. Seriously if you are interested in the SE that is fine, but trashing the 6s is kind of dumb. Most of your arguments are subjective like screen size. For you it might be just out of reach of one handed use, but for me I have no issues at all using one hand.

I really wish people would stop saying the design is old.
If it's a great design, the age is irrelevant.

When did everyone start actually believing that "newer is always better"?

No the age is not irrelevant. If Apple released the iPhone 7 in September and it looked just like the iPhone 5 and 5s. The media and consumers would lose it. Sure the design might be good, but you don't bring the same design back in tech 4 years later and call it a new phone. Come on that is just crazy. I love Apple, but this is lazy. Samsung or LG would never live something like this down. I hate when people say "if Apple sold a turd and people an Apple logo on it, people would buy it", but that argument holds a little bit of value here.

I don't know...I understand the appreciation for synchronicity and continuity, but there are different devices that DO fulfill all of these drawbacks. I like the idea of Apple bringing technology back to the basics. I have an iPhone 6s and I chose the 6s over the 6s plus because I have an iPad mini. So in my humble opinion, having two devices with one or two differences but with 900 identical features is extremely redundant. I think Apple is on to something by making sense of all the the products that they offer that have specific functions and significantly vary comparatively between each other. It would be like buying the SAME product over and over in different sizes/shapes and calling it different names.

It's only the best selling iPhone because it's the "main" iPhone. If Android wasn't so successful with the gigantic screen we would have never have never had to deal with these awkward designs. iOS isn't optimized for the larger screen size-at all. On android the larger screens make sense due to multitasking and increased functionality, on iOS the only argument for a larger screen is "oh I like watching movies lol" which movies always suck on a small screen, the experience doesn't change between SE/6/+, or if you have bad vision and need the giant screen to crank the font sizes to the maximum. As far as design, the iPhone 5 is the last design Steve closely worked on, and he was right about one handed use 5 years ago. You can use the 6 size with one hand, but you have to balance the phone on your pinky and not only is it uncomfortable, it's dangerous and incredibly easy to drop. I don't use a case on my phone because that kills the design, so one drop and my phone is dead. Having to use two hands to use a phone is ridiculous and the one thing Jobs was striving to avoid. The 6S is objectively Apple's worst phone. At least the + has battery life and a few landscape mode apps to diffrentiate iOS and make use of that real estate, it's not trying to be a one handed phone. The 6/6S is just the awkward middle child, and will go down as Apple's worst iPhone. Selfie camera is something I could care less about, Touch ID is too fast on the S, and 3D Touch is pointless and can be fully replicated with a Jailbreak tweak.

I think you should consider this first paragraph from the SE product page:

"Welcome to iPhone SE, the most powerful 4‑inch phone ever. To create it, we started with a beloved design, then reinvented it from the inside out."

They recognize that a lot of people loved that design and simply wanted a version with newer internals.

This is great great business on their part. Absolutely listening to customer feedback and it's wonderful to see.

There's nothing "lazy" about it.

The people in the "update my 4" camp" don't even want a new design! That's the whole point. This is extra great as we all get to keep using the HUGE array of existing cases & accessories with the SE.

I think they hit it out of the park. Nothing lazy about it and the design is superb, and certainly not dated at all.

Yep.

The Rolex DateJust was introduced in the '40s and has changed little in 70 years. It's still Rolex's best seller.

So true. The 5 series phones feel AMAZING in the hand and so I truly applaud them for just updating the other parts of the device to bring it up to spec. It's precisely what so many were asking for (including myself)

Again just a bunch of subjective opinions. I have no issues holding my iPhone 6s. For me it's the perfect size just needs a better battery. You have every right to love the SE, but crapping on the iPhone 6s to make you feel better about your purchase is so old.

Have you ever heard of marketing and selling? That is what that state from Apple is. Sure there are people that love the design, but there are plenty that though the iPhone 4 was the greatest designed iPhone (me being one of them expect needing a bigger screen). Apple did not bring that back. I think there are way more people that lived that design then did the iPhone 5.

It may not be called lazy, but this is not any innovation by Apple. They used an old design and internals already used. Can't say that is really innovation.

the fact that you think Samsung or LG could ever make an iconic design that lasts 60+ years was your first mistake. Apple isn't Samsung. They don't need to cling to market fads to be successful. They invented this ****.

Does every single product have to be an "innovation"?

I think this is why they called it the SE (special edition)
The phone is specifically made for people who wanted an updated 4" phone in a design they love and at the same time they also get to appeal to a wider international audience with a lower starting price for a reasonably top of the line iPhone.

These are great things!

I'm not sure why it's bothering you so much.
The SE isn't for you, and that's of course fine.
Some of us are literally jumping for joy with this release!

Can't we all just be happy that we have such great options?

Next year on the next SE phone I hope some will be included.

Yeah Apple did invent stuff, but using a design that is 4 years old is not inventing. Sorry it's just not. Enjoy your SE, but it's not an invention by Apple.
