Very little features added from Watch 4 to Watch 5. Besides always on.

who is upgrading?
I am upgrading. Always on display’ is a significant new feature to me as it makes Apple Watch to become a ‘real’ watch, not just a mini computer acting as watch. Every non smart watch always has ‘always on display’, including a digital one. I always feel bothered with having to tap or moving my wrist to display the time or others on Apple Watch, like my iPhone, iPad or Mac needs to be touched for display the content. I never feel wearing a watch, but a mini computer acting as a watch. Finally, Apple made the Apple Watch as a ‘real’ (digital) watch, no longer a mini computer acting as a watch. Decided after two days of thinking after the announcement to upgrade my series 4 gold SS to series 5 ceramic, as I have been wanting a ceramic case in series 4. No display or dark mode without tapping or raising the wrist makes an Apple Watch looks like a piece of mini block on my hand.

I bought an S4 earlier this year after buying the original watch on launch day in 2015 and falling out of love with it being sluggish and basically used it just to tell the time.

I gave AW another go on with S4, I got the 44mm Aluminium GPS just to see if things had improved... I've been so impressed that I decided to upgrade to SS with 5 and cant wait to pick it up.

I enjoy the brushed look of aluminum and the durability of stainless steel, so glad the titanium option is now offered. The always-on display is a definite added bonus.

I feel that there should be an option to change the sensitivity for wake screen on wrist raise. That’s my biggest issue.

I don’t feel the need for an always on display but you should be able to fine tune the angle at which the screen will turn on.

If I had an aluminum series 4 I’d definitely upgrade. I had an aluminum series 3, but the scratches were bugging me. So I bought the space black stainless series 4.

The space black titanium is very tempting though. I might cave in, lol.

Reading this thread has helped remind me NOT to get sucked in to the apple marketing black hole.

I picked up a used SS S4 in March for around $500, thinking that apple didn’t have much in store for us in September. Keynote dropped and I’m like, “Always on display. Nice to have, but not a need.”

Fast forward to yesterday morning, I’m on the floor playing with my 4 month old, working on that tummy time, I try raising my wrist to check the time - black screen. I do it again - black screen. I’m like, “this is why I need the S5, damnation!”

Then I read this thread and it brings me back to earth. I love the SS look and feel, but I do not want to pay full price because of that depreciation. I’ll wait until next year and see if I can find one used.

There should be a low battery indicator. I'm confused. Is it possible that it doesn't bypass wrist tilt?

(I've never used a watch)

Naw. It’s the angle that you raise yr wrist. Sometimes it doesn’t register. It makes the whole “watch” aspect kind of bogus.

I was considering it, mainly because I’ve been thinking of going from 40mm to 44mm, but I decided to upgrade my phone, so I think I’m gonna stick it out with my series 4 til next year.

Honestly for me, the always on display alone is worth upgrading for. I can’t believe more people don’t feel the same way.

But it’s costly to upgrade for some, especially when the Series 4 models have dropped considerably in resale. ‘An always on display’ probably wouldn’t sway someone to upgrade spend another $400 Plus dollars just for that feature alone. There probably would have to be a slew of changes that would compel someone to upgrade. Anyone with a Series 3 or under, definitely would see the value.

I’m considering an S5 watch but, holding off for two reasons. 1. Will the battery life remain 18 hrs. 2. How reliable will the new display be.

Your first mistake was buying an Apple Watch in March for $500.

It has some compelling new features for non Series 4 owners in my opinion, but I will be sticking with my Series 4. Going to get a 2020 watch and a 2020 iPhone

I wasn't planning on it, but I am considering it now if I can sell my S4 for a reasonable amount and find a deal after S5 has been out for a while.
