I went from a 128 iPhone 7 to a 64 gb X and that was a massive error. Going to return this for the 256, although I really don’t need that much room.
If I bought one I’d return it for safety reasons (which is why I bought the iPhone 8).
Don’t want to attract too much attention especially on sketchy sidewalks at night.
I would return my X if I could, because of Face ID just being slower than Touch ID, and because of that stupid notch thing, but I can't. With my carrier (O2 UK), an upgrade to a new handset means you're stuck with it once you've done the deal. It's "OK", but really I wish I'd got an 8 with good ol' Touch ID - so much better for a HANDset device. So I set the "don't require attention" for Face ID, to make it a little faster, and just put up with it. But I have the feeling that maybe Apple won't go back to Touch ID, just to, er .. save Face.
Unless I’m missing something, with O2 you’ve got 14 days to change your mind so you could have just gone back and swapped to an 8.
Not if you're on O2 with a monthly contract, as I am. In such a case, you can't return it.
I can say with absolute certainty that you’re incorrect about that. If you’re within 14 days, pop into a store (or phone CS if you did your upgrade online) and you’ll be able to cancel your upgrade for the X and upgrade to an 8 instead. Takes about half an hour if you do it in store and you’ll leave with an 8.
I can say with absolute certainty that you can't, if you're upgrading your monthly contract on O2.

I also went in store, where they confirmed this.
I'm returning mine this week. After a week with it, there's just too many issues to justify keeping it as it feels like too much of a downgrade. I'll go back to 7 Plus.
I had mine for 2 days before going back to iPhone 7.
My main issue was screen size. I often use my phone with one hand, and I could not reach back button in mail.app without awkward reach over/slide.
If everything else was perfect, I might have kept it. But:
- FaceID worked ~90% of the time. Enough to make me tense up every time I tried to unlock: "Will it work this time?" TouchID works 99% of the time, big difference.
- I find the notch offensive. So much additional work for so many UI designers.
- The gestures near the screen bottom now belong to Apple. That means that scrolling from the bottom might cause app switch.....
- Camera was better than 7, but still could not take clear pictures of my kid's choir at night from back of the auditorium. My DSLR could.
I realized that I just did not want the new shiny thing, the old one worked well enough.
You are sure you will be able to resist upgrading next year?I've officially had my iPhone X for a week and though the novelty of having a new devices has worn off, I still think it's a great device. Will be keeping and will likely skip the next cycle.
I am borderline keep or return on face ID and that is all.
The taller screen is ok for me. The notch is fine I see no other method of achieving what they are doing with out making the screen have a thin top bar which some may have preferred.
I had a 7 and it was my go to device. I still like that device. The X just has a better looking screen for most of the time I view it. The notch is a non-issue for me. Face ID well it is great but it is no Touch ID 2. This works like Touch ID 1.0 and that is what I expect since face ID is 1.0.
The camera is truly the saving grace for the X over even an 8.
I could never carry the plus. I have tried 6+ 6s+ 8+ every so often I go I can do this. I can carry the phablet. I am done with it in sub 5 days and I want my baby one handed phone back. This is why the X is so appealing. I get more screen in video when zoomed and single handed use.
Then perhaps you shouldn't be walking on sketchy sidewalks in the first place
at a certain time at night if you worried about your iPhone X being stolen.
