Well, technically mosx can't even proof he has friends at all. ;)

He's a typical home user that knows enough to be dangerous, and thinks he's an expert. He can continue to insult myself and others for us being "wrong", but when it comes down to it, myself and others here collect a paycheck for working with computers, so I'll laugh all the way to the bank while he continues with his diatribes.

If he actually dealt with Windows, OSX, and Linux in a real business environment, i.e. had to support a network and users beyond himself, he'd feel differently.

But since that's certainly not the case, and he conveniently decides not to give his professional background with computers (working at Best Buy or the like selling them does not count, sorry) his opinions are just that; opinions.

What makes him irritating is his complete lack of understanding of what makes an opinion vs. a fact. It's quite clear this forum is completely lacking in moderation, otherwise they would have closed this thread a long time ago, and banned Mosx for constantly instigating needless arguments.

There's a right tool for the right job, and no OS does everything the best. The sooner everyone realizes this, the better.

EDIT

I also have to ask, what sort of person that supposedly is well versed in computers looks at the MacBook, realizes its price, looks at the specs, buys it and then complains about its lack of dedicated graphics constantly on an internet forum? It's like me buying an Asus Eee 10" and expecting it to be fantastic for spreadsheets, even though I realize the screen res is only 1024x600. duh!

mosx, when you talk about OS X crashing, do you mean a kernel panic, Finder crashing, an apparent system lockup (but still accessible via ssh, Remote Desktop etc) or the whole system genuinely going down with nothing accessible remotely. ?

PROOF!

Or are you just talking out of your @$$

I can say the opposite and not bring up any facts too, wanna see?

"I have blah blah blah friends in blah blah blah business and none of them touch a Windows PC"

I don't think you want to go there with me mosx. And I am not even close to the best of the bunch even on this site to show that the Mac will do circles around Vista or XP in the media/journalism market. I may not know what "trolling" means, but I do know what both Windows and OSX are capable of in the media market, especially since I was taught on Avid for Windows, and Media 100 which only runs on Windows, then Adobe Premier for Windows.

Quit while you think you are ahead.

You need proof?? Take a walk and ask people in PRO businesses.

We had over 15 Macs as of 2 months ago. Now we have 2 and they are gonna go soon too.

Macs SUCK. There just isn't enough software to support the short line of apps.
We switched to Vista 64bit and not only our workflow improved but we also got ********s of new tools to work with.
I'm a Creative Department Director for one of the fastest growing media companies in the US right now if you wonder.

And my opinion is:
You want a Mac? get it and have fun but if you want to do some serious stuff with your computer then stay away from it. It will limit you badly and you'll realize it once all the ahh ohh and ehhh fades.

Perfect marketing this is what keeps Mac so high but I think that with the current state of economy in US a lot of people will finally take their heads out from their asses and see that nice talk DOES NOT mean FACT.

"We" isn't exactly representative of the entire pro business, I'm sure that you would get mixed perspectives while walking in it. :)

As opposed to an amateur business? :D

This is all well and good, but it's still just an opinion. At least this one's based on experience though with more than 4 computers.

I did. After 10 studios told me they use Win based software and our work gives them **** loads of issues as they need to convert the models into 'their' format we sit and gave it a thought that maybe it's not THEM that have issues here.

For some of you that do not know if you export a 3D model let's say in C4D into other formats there are many things that either do not work or change values and those are not so easy to fix when you count 2-3 million polygon objects.

So we simply did what was our only option to get a workflow accepted by the industry - go with Win based software and yeh we'll never look back.

Of course we had a choice to switch software... ZZZZZZZ... upsss. nope... Not available for Mac (toys) ;)

I agree. Those little production companies like Warner Bro, playing around with their Pro Tools and Final Cut need to start GETTING SERIOUS!

i can has video game machine? im serious

What you just described was using the right tool for the job, not Macs are terrible and useless.

That is why you are a perfect Apple customer :)

I would never describe graphic design as serious, that would be wrong in my opinion. You know what's serious? Something like heart transplants.

And I created the entire advertising & marketing print graphic material for a major car company for whole Austria on a toy. (Most basic layouts came from an international agency, which surprise surprise use Macs. But still we did many adaptions & some own stuff. I say we now because we were a smaller local agency but I was the sole graphic designer.)

I agree with the previous poster, you chose the right tool for YOUR field of work, that doesn't matter that Macs in general are just toys. They have their uses, even in professional environments. Both Windows and OS X have their advantages/disadvantages, what matters is what advantages are more useful for the work you do + what is more widespread in that particular industry. In your case that's Windows, which is fine. In my case it's Mac OS X, and I'm happy about it.

Anyway, I'm sorry that you were sold a lemon. It stinks that we have to buy AppleCare these days *remembers the PowerBook days when I never even bothered...*[/QUOTE]

I have a 5yr old Powerbook and have not upgraded yet. Not a single problem in 5 yrs. No AppleCare. No worries. Nice

Do you have a link to this company? Or are you going to do the mosx thing and just post claims.

Here's mine and it's all Apple back here, mainly G5s and ACDs. The many others can be googled. Red One, Avid, FCP, Adobe, Pixar (of course), Lucas Films, a plethora of institutions and other journalism agencies, this year's Olympics, etc. etc. the list goes on all use the Mac.

Not that it's some end all be all solution, just that there are a good deal of key companies that use them. Just because the tiny ones don't doesn't mean they suck, and claiming something with no proof is WORTHLESS.

And what you say about software is very ignorant. As I said before, you just don't do enough to know.

p.s. will try POSSIBLY posting some images. Don't want to loose my job over someone else's opinion.

Ill read the rest of the thread in a second....

I had my macbook for 4 and a half months. First time Mac owner....loved the OS, Loved the styling. Then I started recieving a crack along the bottom. I took it to Apple (Store) and they at first almost didnt want to offer anything. They basically said its a known issue, and even if we repair it will likley come back. This was out of the question. I spoke to the manager and got a full refund.

All and all....so far...

I like the OS, I like the style of the company....but I hate the "deal with it" type attitude I sometimes receive from Apple peeps. It just seems the persona of apple is this emo, pretentious faded jean wearing, starbucks low-fat drinking snob. Just like there, your PC sucks adds. Might be time to jump ship now that I got my cash in my pocket.

We can ignore users?!?!

Yay MOSX is on my ignore list now, that guy is just pathetic. He only hangs at these forums to bash Apple products. Talks how his 700 dollar laptop is so great, but fails to mention it gets 2 hours of battery life in "batter saver" mode when all you do is browse the net.

Anyways, he's become a public nuisance, glad theres an ignore list though.

Wow, I guess you can't stand other people's opinions when they differ from your own? ;)

Perhaps battery life isn't everything, either. I myself have limited battery life, because I like having a cool laptop. Thus, I have installed both Coolbook and FanControl on my Macbook, third-party software to help correct problems Apple engineers couldn't: heat. This laptop used to get to 145 F during simple net browsing. Now it gets to 120 F, with better battery life and absolutely no negatives.

I personally love opinions, even when they differ from my own. I just don't like opinions stated as facts, or with little to nothing backing them up, delivered in an extraordinarily arrogant manner. ;)

Well yes, I have been to the forums, but since I could read them without registering...

I know its not super common for it to happen to people....and in this guys case, he should of just done what i did.....return it. I will say that Apple doesn't like unhappy people in their stores :)

The one thing I didnt like, is when the "genius" at the apple store said exactly:

"I can replace it, even though we arent supposed to, but it will probably happen again." Literally, I walked in to get the plastic changed....thats it. A refund works even better.

Its not a conspiracy....look up MacBooks cracking....They as of right now, knowingly sell a defective product.

OK I wasn't referring to that part of the post. Doesn't matter.

I also don't believe for one minute that genius said that to you. They replace them all the time. Even the people who are mad at Apple b/c of the cases admit they replaced the case without any hassle.
