The 2 GB of ram in the latest devices (6s, 6s plus, SE) I believe has added real longevity to the iPhone. This was serious maturity for the iPhone. That's why I believe most can and will wait until next year this phone is more or less perfect for those still on prior generations, and we know even some of them are staying put until next year. There's no harm in waiting just one more year if your device is still performing fine right now.

Well you know what it needs even higher RAM because it's still being tapped out. That's why I said its worth the wait.

Why would I pay full price for a tweak.

I'm saying the 2 gb enables most users to wait until next year. Wouldn't u be agreeing with my post then?

Apple is not about the profit margin first. They're about delivering products and services in a different way. In spite of a few posters opinions and click bait blogs, Apple has seemingly delivered what the people have been asking for. With MR overseeing apples board and management team(and not being shy about letting Apple know they can run the company better), it will never be a good time for company expansion, acquisitions, new product development. But this is all business as usual as far as Fortune 500 companies go.

Me, I'm waiting for the iPhone 7.

How can you say for certain that Apple is not about profit margin first? Their quarterly earnings calls are nearly second to none in news coverage. They use economies of scale to squeeze out the same designs two years in a row (now apparently moving to 3). What would you say the 2 main gripes of iPhone users has been? Not just here in the forums, but even the average Joe who barely knows what his/her phone can do. I would argue 1) Battery Life 2) Lack of customization. Here we are 9 phones later, and Apple still prefers thinner over battery life and I still cannot even so much as place an icon where I want on my screen short of jailbreaking. I love Apple, and I love my iPhone, but even I can see that profit margin is their absolute primary objective over delivering the most requested wants of the consumer base.

Of course they're about profit margin first. They're not a charity. Just like any other business, everything they do is because they believe that either in the short-term or long-term it will make them money. Even fostering the idea that they aren't just about making money is a strategy to make money, because it builds brand loyalty. It's so much easier to stick with a company that you believe is actually putting your best interests above their own.

Every business is about profit margin first. Anybody thinks otherwise is naive.

Of course they're not. Peter Drucker 101.

I disagree on this. They charge what they charge and their margin is what their margin is, but they don't go into any new service or idea unless they think it is viable with the customer or their strategy. That's putting the customer first;; not the profit margin first.

Their quarter earnings call are about profits, but they put the customer and their strategy first. The can't make money on goods and services they can't sell. A company exists to provide a service, from that service hopefully they will make money. And you can't be so sure, apple is using the "profit motive" to produce a phone with the same form factor, there could be many other reasons that you are not privvy to. There are all sorts of business cases where people go into a business to do something different, not knowing if they will make a dime, if their product will sell. Said companies are formed to provide a service.

Unless the customers buy their products they won't have any profit, would they? Testing the market and deploying well executed services and hardware is part of their strategy. It's nothing to do with "customers" first.

It's more like understanding what will work with the customers. They provide solution rather than just coming up with something random. That's completely strategic.

Apple's deep psychological connection with hoards of customers will assure many will upgrade. It's that connection that's made them so successful. It's the very reason why Apple can keep selling the same basic phone year after year. Creating the six series and recycling it for two more years is an amazing and highly profitable accomplishment.

I can agree to much of this, but do you truly feel Apple puts customers ahead of profit? The reason I ask is because as we have seen, while they have still sold many millions of iPhones in 2016, their year over year sales have fallen. With the 7, this could continue to be the case. That remains to be seen. Meanwhile, people have been jumping ship to android in droves. Particularly in developing countries. Whether it be twitter, forums, or the occasional water cooler chat, people continue to question Apple's ability to innovate, their rationale for not improving battery life, their closed environment, etc. Perhaps I am simply looking at this through fogged lenses because I am irritated with the direction Apple seems to be headed (and has been). But the company that I used to admire, that set the bar so high, has seemingly become complacent. And if it is due to the fact that they 'know' they can sell oodles of phones based on loyalty and brand recognition alone...that is not putting the customer first. Hopefully for their sake as a company the resurgence of sales will take place. They probably will. Because somehow they continue to take the stage saying "really cool", "really awesome", "really great", and "really epic" about things that have have already been done and people still eat it up.

That means nothing to me.
Then you should look it up.

So yoy sales have fallen while making record profits? Seems like people have been buying iPhones in droves. Maybe "people" have a different expectation than you personally?

Seems like your agreeing with me in a round about way. Customers need to see a benefit; that's putting the customer first by providing a product or service the customer wants.

Samsung keeps selling the same basic phone year after year. Gm sells the same basic car year after year. Etc

The same token if you don't want to look it up you're not interested in continuing the discussion or understanding the point.

I'm absolutely not interested in looking it up. I wrote a paragraph explaining my thoughts. You responded with a name... Don't suggest that I'm the one who wasn't willing to engage in discussion. Why write an essay when you can hand in a bibliography and say "just read what these guys say"?

Why should I explain about the person who is credited to be the the father of modern economic theory. If you truly believe profit first, customers second, you're missing a big chunk of the pie. Companies who fleece their customers without providing a service end up like Enron. As I said you may find something that may enlighten you, or not.

I'm not looking for an economics lesson. We're discussing a specific situation. Apply your knowledge to this situation to make a point. That's how discussions work. You don't just say, "go learn this and then my point will be self-evident".

And after all that Apple is still the most profitable company in the world and the total number of galaxy line up sell is only a fraction of the number of iPhone sold all over the world.

Says it all I guess.
For those with money envy insecurities, being emotionally connected to Apple seems to fulfill them.

For the rest of us who use it as a phone and not a status symbol, it's how it functions that's far more important. We don't give a rip about the companies profit, just give us a great phone that meets our needs.

Google, Android, Samsung and other makers of Android Smartphones are leaving Apple behind.
