I'm sick 0f this, I had the original iPad wifi problems and had to wait until 3.2.2 to get it fixed. Now, the issues are back. What the hell is wrong with Apple? I know some are not having the issue but enough are to confidently say they screwed the pooch again. QC sucks anymore. I'm not just ranting either, I purchase every freaking apple product out there because I love them, but recently they have gone south.

How do you restore to 3.2.2? I do not have a jailbroken ipad and do not have the old install file. Can I just restore from my last backup? Oh wait, I backed up recently with 4.2. Damn!

Im wondering if it's a G vs N issue. can everyone who has the problem state whether it is Wireless G or Wireless N. i am having the issue and I am running wireless G. i have an N router I may set up and see if the issue continues. N

Been reading through a few of these posts and it appears that users who upgraded from previous 4.2 betas are the ones having Wifi issues?

Wifi problem too but solved?

I just try iPad 4.2 and got wifi problem too,but
When I had try to close "location service" in "network menu" ,my iPad can use wifi without any problem again.
Hope this method can be solved for you too.:)

God! I thought that I was the only one to have this problem. I had to revert back to 3.2.2 to get all WIFI working again.
I don't have time to disable everytime my router and enable it again to get this working normally. I hope that Apple know this bug and DON'T release it to the public with it.

That's an interesting thought. I leapt straight to GM; no wifi issues here.

BTW, I don't think Apple will delay 4.2 final based on the experiences reported here. People have got their builds from all sorts of unofficial sources, quite possibly with different versions of OSX and iTunes to go with them. Anyone got any insight into what's being said amongst devs with official builds?

I'm having no issues on my home network using 5ghz wireless-N. FWIW, I upgraded directly from 3.2.2 to 4.2GM.

I did a restore back to 3.2.2 then updated to the GM, still had wifi issues. However I reset my modem back to it's default settings and dropped the firewall just for my iPad and I haven't had it drop out yet this morning...

What type of router do you have? How do u drop the firewall for just the iPad?

It's Telstra's crappy wireless modem (a popular phone/Internet company in Australia) it allows you to set a level of firewall protection for each device on the network. I think the actual brand is 2wire or something like that.

It was working great, didn't have to reconnect once in over two hours, then my dad got out of bed and I'm back to having trouble. I wonder if I unplug his wifi adapter and hide it would my iPad start working normally again :rolleyes:

antennagate was a bigger issue than this and that didn't stop them.

the wifi thing is an issue, but it's not bad enough to warrant holding back 4.2. it'll be fixed with a minor release, like 4.2.1

So people who will experience the WiFi issue in the official 4.2, won't be able to use WiFi anymore for months? I don't think that Apple will release 4.2.1 in weeks.

Sadly it didn't worked for me.:(

No problems at all for me. Using an Airport Extreme dual-band N router.

FWIW, I upgraded to the 4.2 GM directly from 3.2.2. I have not used any of the previous betas. I did however set it up as a new iPad with a fresh install instead of restoring from the previous backup.

I've been using wifi just fine for about 5 hours today watching football. No wifi dropouts whatsoever.

Also, Location Services is enabled.

actually we went from 4.0 to 4.0.1 in 3 weeks and 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 in 4 weeks on iPhone and with iPad from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2 in 3 weeks, so there's some examples of not too long a wait...

this is a big build, unless there was something HUGELY fatally wrong, they would postpone it, but this wifi issue doesn't seem big enough for them to stop it. that poll in the other thread has 58 people saying it's working fine and 32 people having a problem........

Again, I think we need to ask the following:

If you are having WiFi issues, did you install a beta of 4.2 prior to installing the Gold Master version?

I have done a Restore/Backup from 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 to the GM of 4.2. No Wifi issues.

I suggest if you are having a problem to do a clean restore to 4.2 and do not use your backup.

I've been keeping up with this thread since page 1, and I've been trying a few things here and there. Switching things on and off, as well as restoring and fresh installs of 4.2. I've also made my own posts of the range issue that started to show some merit.

I had a request from my step mother to bring my iPad over on a day I was helping my father do some work around the house. I was really embarrassed to bring my 4.2GM installed iPad over there, because I knew I was having issues with it. I ended up bringing it with me in hopes that I could at least give her a decent demo to show it off.

To my surprise, my fathers DSL wi-fi connection worked like a charm. It never dropped once in the hours I was there, and we were nowhere near the router. I also had a similar experience last night with my friends cable connection, and I had not one problem at all... I'm currently back to 3.2.2.

My father used some generic modem with built in wi-fi from at&t that gave a mixed signal, and my friend used a linksys router that gave a strong N signal. I also use a linksys where I've attempted Mixed and N only, but leaving the general vicinity of my personal router has just posed issues. I don't know what my router problems are, but it seems to be a personal issue within my own network.

What I'm trying to say, is I don't think it's really 4.2's fault.. and maybe there's something bigger going on that maybe we all have in common. What that problem is.. I have no idea. I do know that it is possible to sustain a stable connection with 4.2, and the people in this thread claiming to have a 100% experience with 4.2 on their own wi-fi networks aren't just blowing smoke. I just wish I knew what my own problem was...

Did not install a beta. I went right from 3.2.2 to 4.2 GM. Major wifi issues, cant even keep a signal for two minutes.

And yes, its absolutely 4.2 GM's fault. Everything worked fine on 3.2.2. Wifi should work, without question. It may be an issue with certain routers but that is Apple's responsibility to make their equipment work with general population. All other devices work fine, the iPad has unfortunately had wifi issues since its inception.

Its amazing that Apple can build such beautiful, game changing products but not be able to make wifi work across the board. It will be such a joke if they release this GM as is and bring back all the crappy wifi issues that plagued the iPad since it came out. It will say a lot about them if they do that, I dont care how big of a build it is, they will be screwing many of their users, again.

I am having major issues with WiFi. It was working fine for 4 days then just all of a sudden started happening. Was 3.2.2 to 4.2GM update.

I'm using the Verizon FiOS Actiontec MI424WR router.

Now I'm doing a fresh restore to 4.2GM, no backup. Let's see if I have issues.

It might be helpful if those having problems provided the following information to see if there are any commonalities:
* Network Mode (G/N/Mixed):
* Band (2.4 GHz/5 GHz):
* Security Mode (WPA/WPA2/Mixed):
* Router Make and Model:
