Most of them are keeping a record and sending it to the company of everything you watch: https://www.consumerreports.org/ele...n-off-smart-tv-snooping-features-a4840102036/

There can also be so many ads. Using something like Pi-hole helps, but it usually won't catch everything without breaking some features.

I block my main TV from accessing the internet and use an Apple TV. There are some ads in the form of suggested shows or movies, but there is much less data snooping. I still filter ads at a network level though and it blocks some outbound traffic from the Apple TV.

I have a Firewalla and block ads from my streaming devices too, even hardcoded dns stuff....but, all these streaming services are monitoring, tracking and selling access to what you're watching. They don't need the device info when you're using their app.

I could do with a new Apple TV Pro with Ethernet and Optical out to enjoy lossless audio on my stereo. I mean, they are pushing Lossless audio and Classical Music but then don't offer hardware to go with that.
100 percent Lossless Audio required. Would love to use bitstream from Plex/Infuse.

Because it is

  • superior to every other streaming product on the market
  • has excellent picture quality, including 4k Dolby Vision
  • destroys the garbage UIs and performance of native television apps
  • receives regular app updates, whereas the television apps are abandoned by developers
  • excellent value for money, including a great remote and consistently fast, trouble-free performance

Not true here in UK i'm afraid, no UHD support on BBC iPlayer and not even any subtitles.

... has expired 🤣

Why sugarcoat it? Just say he was wrong. Again.

I welcome a lower price. I also would like to see Apple offer an Apple TV without storage for around $50 to compete against Roku devices and Amazon Fire sticks. Great for those who just want to stream (not purchase) content and don't want to be tracked.
I really really really want a portable bus-powered Apple TV stick, even with no apps, just to be able to Airplay to any TV. I would take it with me on all trips and would probably even keep it in my everyday bag for when I visit a friend or relative’s home and want to AirPlay pics or video clips on their TV.

If its just a spec bump, then why bother? I had an apple tv HD for 9 years and was still going strong. I gave it to my parents when I bought the new 4K one with the updated remote control.

These things are incredibly well made and blow away the TV's UI. Now if you're going to add new features like a facetime camera, or also make it a smart speaker with new Apple Intelligence, then yeah.

This could be the top product where people ask why would you even need this and have no clue how it changes your quality of life. I've gifted it to tons of people and ALL of them comment on how they even lived before this with their grinder TVOS.

Support for UHD would be very welcome. Especially as our satellite dish seems to have died and BBC iPlayer has some great content in UHD - especially nature programmes. UHD is only supported on TVs directly (eg LG) AGAIK.

Thinking about it more though - this maybe an app issue with iPlayer rather than the Apple TV?

I'm willing to buy a new one (I got the first 4K model) but I'll wait to see what the new one will offer. I prefer to wait for the future generation if the changes are cosmetics.

New release isn’t even needed. Already not using full potential as it is and over powered. Don’t argue Apple Arcade either. That is a joke of a service.

With the memory that’s included, I wish for those of us that do not use iCloud photos that we could sync our photos to the Apple TV. Instead of having the laptop left on and open.

You do realize the Apple TV is more than just a box that plays Apple TV+ content right? Twitch, YouTube, Hulu, HomeKit compatibility, AirPlay, and games can all be done with it too.
Really, no kidding. My Sony TV does all that also. Why use an Apple TV with the sucky remote.

Who is ever first with AV1 support be it a new apple tv or new nvidia shield I will buy 2. All my other apple devices support av1 and i would like to switch my server from H265 to AV1 or just jump straight to H266.

Here is my wish list for a new Apple TV:
1. The ability to output audio to both TV speakers and multiple AirPods or other Airplay devices. Right now this is one or the other and those using Airpods as hearing aid type devices or to isolate external sounds can only watch alone and not with others needing TV speakers as they are disabled.
2. The ability to pair and use a bluetooth microphone for both Karaoke / Apple Music Sing and with FaceTime calls. Some audio controls would be nice like reverb etc.
3. Subtitle translation with LLM AI and multiple subtitle language presentation - So long as there is an english subtitle available we should be able to have that translated on request to any language and have it presented. Additionally, sometimes a movie in English spoken language as primary or secondary audio track has some scenes in another language and English subtitles automatically appear. However when you change the subtitle to another language, then the whole move subtitle is in this selected language and when this scene comes and the spoken language changes The English subtitles need to persist along with the additional selected subtitle language. This happens all the time on NetFliks watching with family with Vietnamese subtitles. The spoken language is English, but often times changes and the Vietnamese subtitles continue and there is no subtitle that matches the selected spoken language... and then I'm lost. Seems like this would also be useful for SharePlay where users on different devices may need different subtitles and in languages not currently available.

I can see these possibly having additional hardware requirements if e.g. translation uses Apple Intelligence.
