If you're referring to the last pic, yes that's a result of uneven lighting when the phone was held in a horizontal viewing angle while taking the picture. Nearly every LCD would exhibit that gradient

Ah, I see. Well, congrats on the nearly flawless phone!

I believe it was 9.0.2.
Was it a replacement or new in box? Tomorrow is my 14th day. I have 9.02 on mine which can be jailbroken. Im afraid all the new in box from apple will now have 9.1 which cant be jailbroken. Ugh the pressure is on.

Dissect away, my dear OCD friends! :)
Is the screen a little yellowish, warm tone or is it just my screen?

Replacement was brand new in a little white generic box.

How come you didn't return yours and get a brand new sealed one was it past the 14 days? I like to have my box serial numbers model etc. to match my phone.
Past 14 days. I don't really care about the serial numbers matching and I doubt I'll have any trouble selling the phone because of that.

I have a week 43 6S+ 64gb coming today via Fedex that I just ordered last Friday from Apple Online. Doing return/repurchase/replace. As this is the 2nd one. 1st one was week 41 and had a very fade but noticeable blemish on each side. I'll keep you guys updated.

And this one came from PA instead of China. Looks like Apple now has stock of 6S+ 64gb Silver.

Cheers.

My two week 43 build devices came with 9.0 and had to install the software update.

That's actually a pretty good display. One of the best I've seen. Tricky to compare as the camera sees things differently from the human eye. Zoom out and you can see the right hand side in the middle of the screen, there is a cloud of 'bluer' white light compared to the left which is a more yellower colour. Looks like you've got the same yellow to blue colour shift (left to right) that I've seen on every phone to date. My phone has this too sadly. I am nit picking though.

Congrats on dodging Blue edges, dark corners and yellow tints. You have a keeper!

Not everyone can see that subtle shift of yellow to blue, and it also depends on the colour temperature of the ambient light in the room at the time. For example, a lot of people cannot see the difference between dark blue and black. It's not colour blindless, it is simply a lack of colour resolution of the human eye. So while it is likely that many phones have what you say, many will argue or insist theirs does not have it, when it may just be that they genuinely are incapable of seeing it. Unfortunately I see the tiniest discrepancies. I have seen what you describe in the iPhone 6S Pluses I have seen to date and unfortunately what I have also found, is that the backlight uniformity changes as the iPhone ages over the first couple of weeks :(

Week 38. Mine is not bad in my point, but subtle shadows on the top when tilted. Shadows at the edges seemed to disappear after a few hours of white background at max brightness. UV from LEDs affects the polymeric mat?!

Yes, my hobby is digital photography and re-touching so I see all these discrepancies too. :-(

You're absolutely right though, the characteristics of these displays changes within the first 2 weeks.

Did you wind up returning yours again or decided to stick with it?

Nah, kept it. Its not at the level I expect for £898 but it'll do. I let 14 return window pass by me yesterday. I can't keep going back time after time. Even though the screens just aren't uniform enough for the money, the issues don't show up in Store easily and I'm tired of seeing the inside of an Apple Store trying to convince Genius'. Unless its empty, the shopping experience inside an Apple Store is not good (but that's a different story).

So the phone I have decided to keep has:

  1. Wiggly mute button (doesn't really bother me as it works fine)
  2. No dead pixels.
  3. A screen that changes colour temperature depending on the ambient lighting. Its blue under fluorescent light, yellow under incandescent.
  4. Slight yellow stain in the bottom left of the screen. (only notice it when looking for it).
  5. Bottom left blemish (only notice it when looking for it).
  6. Slight darkening of the vertical edges.
  7. A cloud of bluer light on the right hand side of the screen (yellow to blue colour shift left to right).
Its the last 2 that bother me as they're noticeable when you read text on a white background (any website or Apple News)........but its the best I've screen across 13 phones so I'm keeping it and making my peace with it.

Just think...in less than a year we might be going through the whole process all over again (assuming you upgrade every year). Not to mention the possibility of an earlier launch if you believe the latest rumors. This launch has been by far the worst for me in terms of time and effort spent in the car/Apple store/Apple chat etc. It really is a rude awakening taking a step back and realizing it was done for a PHONE.

Absolutely - I guess it clearly shows the importance some place on a phone. For me, I travel 4 hours a day on a train so my phone is invaluable to me. Its how I can cope with that much travelling everyday. My 6S+ get's so much use that I have to charge it twice per day (midday and evening). That amount of usage looking at a screen with bad uniformity really does eat away at you for the money we pay. Yes its just a phone but to some, its their primary device that they spend a lot of time on.

I can only hope that iPhone7 switches to OLED. Its in the Apple Watch. I know OLED has its own set of issues but screen uniformity as bad as these LCDs isn't one of them.

That is a lot of traveling....I hear you on the OLED. I can't imagine them rolling out the same quality LCD displays next year and how few and far between a "good" display was. I am not sure if I got lucky but my last and final return was my best of the bunch so I have to move on from that. My main concern was finding one without the pressure point or whatever it actually is because that was very distracting to me. But yes OLED technology does come with its own downsides but I have the new LG OLED 4K TV and I really enjoy the colors and pure blacks it produces vs the grayish blacks from an LCD. I am sure we will know soon enough if Apple is going to make the switch through the rumor mill but until then enjoy the device you have now.

Not trying to stir the pot here, but the human eye can see things differently as well. Human judgement varies as well. Of course, your point about the camera is spot on. If the screen is tilted even a small amount, that can cause perceived darker regions to "appear".
