Neither am I.

But I am.

If the opportunity arises where I can get my hands on one come launch day, that would be great. But knowingly how the 10th anniversary iPhone and pent-up demand for this year, I have a feeling it's going to be a while before I get mine.

This is actually the first iPhone launch where I'm considering not trying to get one on launch day. However, I only have a 4 Constitution so I don't know how long I'll last.

if the face and eye recognition is accurate at different angles and security is as good or better than Touch I.d. Then
It's good
I don't understand how Apple Pay will work with this but there must be a way

perhaps part of the "speed" of the new system is that your iPhone 8 will *always* or often be scanning for your face so by the time you go to even put it up against a pay terminal it is already well aware who is holding it and can just approve the transaction.
.

I think it'll be sensing for a face after tapping the screen, much like Touch ID waits only until you press the Home button.

I think just facial recognition will be a problem in many situations. I'm in London and use Apple Pay almost everyday for contactless payment almost everywhere. While commuting on the London Underground trying to use it with just facial recognition will be impossible. In fact most of the times it will be really inconvenient if I have to face the screen or the camera.

I hate the idea of someone grabbing the phone, pointing it at my face and running away with it completely unlocked to erase and sell or just some idiot getting into all my data.

If they ditch TouchID completely I would 100% stick with what I got, I love TouchID.

I think facial recognition is a nice addition to TouchID, not a perfect replacement.

That seems kinda extreme. And they still need to know your pw at least to turn iCloud on/off.

Just put Touch ID on the power button.

will it work for me........it depends on how soffisticated the software is
If Apple is putting it into an iPhone then I would think that's it's secure and reliable
Of course this will be the first generation of facial recognition iPhones so it remains to be seen

It's possible that Apple will keep Touch ID on the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus but remove it from the iPhone 8 and instead use facial recognition on that model.

If Apple are doing this I think it will be great, they will know how fast and secure Touch ID is and this will be just as fast and secure, at least wait and see what they announce before condemning it.

Haha please tell me your not being serious! Nobody would do that it's not a practical situation. For a start that would give you a chance to fight back, no one would just stand there and let someone point their own phone at them in order to use the facial recognition system.

Of course they could. I'm sure you are jackie chan in disguise but plenty of people wouldn't fight someone stealing their phone. It would only take 1 second to point the camera at the victim as well.

It has nothing to do with being "Jackie Chan" that's just obserd to say that people wouldn't even react to someone stealing their phone, then go on to say that a theif would stand there point the camera at the person in order to get access to it is just silly!

This happens almost every year, there is some rumour (last year it was the removal of the headphone jack) people react hysterical and then it dies over and people realise it's no where near as bad as they had imagined (again such as the removal of the headphone jack).

We'll have to wait and see how it plays out.
Im sure Apple has thought of it and I'll wait to see how its implemented before judging further.
But again nothing is final so its all still rumors.
They might enable both touch ID and face bio metrics security.

As long as they can meet the facial recognition performance present in Surface Devices (Windows Hello) with Intel RealSense cameras, we should be fine. It has been working flawlessly for me ever since I got my Surface Pro 4.

Can’t help but wonder whether the TouchID-on-back rumors aren’t perhaps geared toward the “7S/7S+” models?

Might be part of the reason for the introduction of raise to wake.
Yeah true - raise to wake is another way to activate the Touch ID (don't know how I forgot to point this out) & should also trigger the facial recognition sensors.

Very handy feature raise to wake....it's so intuitive, you forget you're using it ;)

Since Apple has so much invested in Apple Pay, they will have to have a system in place that will meet the requirements for that system. As I see it this must be some sort of Touch ID or facial recognition that will work well enough for Apple Pay. If a pin code would work then they would have already allowed older models of iPhones to be used for Apple Pay and they haven't.

It would be odd if Apple kept touch ID on a a 7S/7S+ and not on the 8 or whatever its going to be called, it seems like way to much hardware fragmentation but who knows. As far as the 8 I'll wait this one out, with so much new tech I'll avoid the revision A and wait for the inevitable hardware bugs to be fixed the following year (I remember avoiding the 6 because of the front camera moving and making a crescent shape for instance) My 7 is great for my needs (I'm a wheelchair user so its a perfect size vs the plus) I really could do with updating my iPad this time around and my 7 does all I need a phone to do at this time. If something comes along that is totally a must have then I'll look maybe, but only after a few months of the phone being out and seeing what issues pop up. Although at this stage what a 'must would' feels like a moot point, smartphones have matured so much that it feels like all new features are marketing hype now, rather than changing my phones usage for the better beyond what it can do now.
