According to this http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/overview.jsp?nodeId=018rH3bTdG7249 it provides more than 1.5Ghz, surely a good starting point for the 13" PB?
Actually, if these things debuted at 1.8GHz that would provide an interim update for the PB. Unfortunately the 7448 is still hamstrung by the FSB so not a great leap forward but not the step backwards I thought. An interesting upgrade would be the single core MPC8641. This would be very telling about the near term roadmap for the PBs. There would be some serious hardware changes required to accommodate the chip, indicating intent to progress to the dual core version rather than move to the G5. Then I would have a very serious dilemma, upgrade to the MPC8641 PB or wait for the MPC8641D dual-core version.

Hopefully we will see high res displays on the 15" and 17" Powerbooks. The 17" should be 1920 x 1200 and the 15.4" 1680 x 1050.

Make that 15.4" 1680 x 1080 for native HD--is that possible?

When that inevitable 12" Powerbook running the Freescale processor is launched in 6 days, I will throw my 1500 one dollar bills at Apple so fast, they won't know what hit them. ;)

The article states: "That being said, rumor sites have also been relatively silent.".
My intepretation of relatively: there are aboslutely no good leaks, not even some good ones we can speculate on. Yes, a few people try to guess in their postings, but it is just a guessing game. Much more guessing than in the last few years. There are no real rumors and it starts to be boring!!!!!!! So, just my rant!!!

Also, don't forget all the rumor sites being sued recently. Silence seems to be golden right now.

I'm expecting nothing new, but I am waiting until the keynote before buying a new tower and screen.

the fact that macrumors told us that rumor sites are basicaly being paid off (like they are every year....but every year we get some idea before it happens anyways) and that we havent heard anyhting yet, kinda makes me think apple really wants to keep some thing a secret.....

Um.... I can't believe how people misinterpret things.

Certain mac *news* sites are being paid off.

Mac rumor sites are never sponsored by Apple.

PPC 970MP

Xserver will get an update, do I see a PPC980 or a PPC970MP CPU?

Not until September. Another poster on another thread in the Macrumors forum mentioned his company ordering these chips from IBM for non-Mac hardware (I think servers), but were told not until January. If Apple gets to market these chips 3 to 4 months prior to anyone else, including even Big Blue, then September would be about right.

Doubtful

..."According to Freescale's site, they are giving presentations on the 7448 and the 8641."

7448 I would say is likely...at least for the ibooks. Have yet to see ANYTHING that would indicate the 8641 is being produced or is iminent.

That being said, would it be feasible to put a dual processor 7448 in a Powerbook (or Mac Mini)? Probably less power required (20 watts) than a G5. This would ensure the PowerBook retains its performance edge until the G5 (or 8641) is ready.

Wouldn't this require a redesign of the motherboard? If so, this would warrant a new enclosure, something I doubt you'll see until the 8641 is ready.

And your point is ???

My point being that the PB is a nice product except that the processor is throttled by the FSB and the display isn't keeping pace with the latest generation of displays.

Aren't these the TWO primary considerations for a laptop?

MacSurfer.com/MacObserver.com links to WWDC

Yeah, wasn't it weird how MacSurfer.com (which is normally excellent) had prominent "news" links to MacObserver.com "stories" (ads, really) for WWDC? I wonder if MacSurfer.com got a cut of the ad fees.

I just noticed the shipping has gone up on the Airport Extreme Base Station, Airport Extreme Card, and the Keyspan Express Remote. If i recall it was recently same day shipping but is now 1-3 days. Any opinions on what this could mean?

ahh, sorry my mistake.

Well, I just got a new coupon from Apple, expiring June 9th. When does Steve announce? :)

That probably means... nothing. ;)

But seriously, there are many reasons that could lead to a shipping time of 1-3 days. At this point I wouldn't interprete too much into it.

Yes, but the recent Airport Express & iTMS ended just last week. One would deduce that Apple was getting rid of old AE stock to make ready for new AEs.

It's all about the video this year. Jobs will announce all the new video stuff that can be done with Apple's new hardware and software.

Then he'll pull out the two-button Apple Mouse and the entire room will GASP in unison.

Surprise

I think we're to see a heck of a lot of new stuff in June... but many might not be so appealing to the average user. Friday will tell... personally I'm expecting new iBook design, Dual Core G5 for Xserve and maybe low-wattage PPC970GX embedded in portables :)

Reduce, reuse, recycle rumors

Well if there are no new rumors, we'll have to recycle some.

"A project code-named Predator, mentioned in our previous report, has had its release date pushed back to August, sources indicate." -- Think Secret: http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0503nab.html

Will this be announced at WWDC, ready to ship in August? A Photoshop killer maybe?

That would be nice, to have a photoshop killer made by mac.......mmmmmm

I don't know if there is really a need for this though. Photoshop is a damn fine app, and I think lots of people are quite content with it and not screaming out for an Apple alternative. Mind you, people can't know how good/bad something is unless they have an alternative to compare it to... ; )

Apple must release a new machine. Or should I say a killer machine. Call it whatever you want. It must be at least dual-core. Most probably two dual-core. Running at least @ 2,5 GHz. The machine definitly needs PCI express and DDR2.

I'm thinking dual-core across the line, FreeScales in the iBook and PowerBooks and 970MP in all G5s. The last update was a little overclock to get rid of excess PowerMac inventory. Plus a tablet Mac :D

Why stop there? :D

I think we'll get a few new ipod accessories... and maybe a new pro app... and ibooks.

We'll be here on Monday afternoon bitching, that's if the forum doesn't implode from dissapintment.
