Actually, if these things debuted at 1.8GHz that would provide an interim update for the PB. Unfortunately the 7448 is still hamstrung by the FSB so not a great leap forward but not the step backwards I thought. An interesting upgrade would be the single core MPC8641. This would be very telling about the near term roadmap for the PBs. There would be some serious hardware changes required to accommodate the chip, indicating intent to progress to the dual core version rather than move to the G5.
