I thought they were hinting at new hardware. They make a big deal about games, so where's the gaming system? They mention Back to my Mac, so where's the ultraportable?

And their "solution" to 3rd party apps on the iPhone scares me. They're going to give web apps pretty much open access to the phone's data and capabilities? It'll be safer to hand your phone to a random guy on the street.

It's nice to see Stacks will finally be released and the ability to use NAS for Time Machine was some nice info. And that amounts to all the new information in this keynote.

The only new release was a beta of Safari 3 that happens to work on Windows too.

Incredibly weak.

when i scroll down to the bottom of this page and then refresh to see if there is more posts it doesn't scroll back down to the same position.

Time to unistall.

That's because you have an anchor in the URL (i.e., the text after the # symbol in the URL). That's what makes the page scroll back to a certain position, which is usually the position of your last post.

I guess if Apple wanted Windows-based developers to develop for the iPhone, they had to provide a (relatively) compatible Webkit-based browser for Windows for them to play with.

Actually making a Safari for XP will also make more people use it on Mac. A lot of people used Firefox to share bookmarks, etc across a Mac and a PC .. or Mac w/ Bootcamp..

i see, so it did this before. my mistake.

No adblock, no good

Did anyone notice Safari 3.0 loading pages faster than firefox even with the fasterfox add-on? Firefox is off my dock! :)

Sorry, don't agree. Firefox has adblock and adblock is the only way to read the web without all those annoying crapverts. Plus the million other addins that make browsing on Firefox so pleasant (e.g. mouse gestures).

Glad to see Safari on Windows. At last we can see an end to the incessant chant from the Windows web development Muppets of "I can't test it on Safari as I don't have a Mac". Not that those ********s would even test it on Firefox.

Still, it's nice to see another competitor for IE.

Great job on the live coverage MR guys.

From what I've read so far in this thread am I one of only a handful of people who actually thought this was a good keynote?? We all knew this keynote was about leopard and thats exactly what we got. Everything else was assumptions based on rumors "it" would be released/announced at this event.

I thought it was awesome, I got more out of this than I expected. The thing is that the average fanboy sits there thinking that Steve jobs is going to fly down from the sky and give them a touch screen voice activated ultralight computer that can do back flips.

Its a damne shame cause important and huge things happened today. Safari on windows, thats MASSIVE! The implications of that are very very huge.

What about the whole speel on gaming in the beginning? Thats really really big news too. Not to mention leopard and its features. A new finder. Every single person on here has been winning for years about this and bang it happens and they complain. Its completely ridiculous.

Steve Jobs can't cure cancer or aids, he isn't the second coming, and Apple will not get you a girlfriend (though I'm sure in some weird way it has happened before). People are all at a 7 right now in terms of expectations, and they need to be at like a 3.

Currently using Safari 3 PB. So far so good. Although it crashed as it was launching. 12" Powerbook G4 10.4.9.

And what's the hell with the 'world's best browser' claim that Apple make about Safari? How do they justify that claim? Man oh man...

Yeah, I got a chuckle out of that as well. They were talking about all of the innovative features they were bringing to Windows with Safari.

What innovative features are they talking about? Safari isn't even up to speed with IE and Firefox yet.

would have liked to hear or seen more info on automator.

What did the guy who developed coverflow get from apple? they seem to be in love with it

and kudos to macrumors for their live reporting

Why is it a bad move to offer Safari to Windows users? Seriously, why? Had SJ announced new hardware I bet (g)you wouldn't be b****ing like now.

Now is anyone going to have a real discussion about the iPhone developing approach and Leopard or what? Geeesh!

BTW, awsome work, MR, on the coverage!!! Couldn't believe I smoothly that all worked out!:)

google gears is supposed to work with webkit, does anybody know if it works with safari 3? or where i can download it to try?

*yawn* nothing overwhelming/exciting. All of this could have been demoed last year!!

The iMac/Mac Mini line is aging faster than macrumors was able to provide live keynote updates lol.

Removed "computers" from company name, remember?

We can see now that Apple was serious when they removed "computers" from their company name. Apparently they don't make computers anymore. Or at least not new computers. In 18 months all they've done is added some cosmetic "fluff" for the OS and made a phone. No new computers....

I was planning to buy a computer when Leopard was released at WWDC. But of course there in no Leopard and no new computer. I'm thinking now that I want to learn how to get Tiger to run under VMware.

Releasing Safari under Windows was a smart move. If the development system for the iPhone is going to be Safari then having that browser on the iPhone, Mac and Windows means any apps developed for the phone will run just the same on Mac or Windows desktops. People will like the ability to run custom phone apps on the larger screen when they are at their desk, no at a desk.

Also if Safari is used by even 4% of Windows users it will double safari's market share and cause a few more web designers to maybe think about testing their site on safari.

Apple has done well, it's just that they seem to be moving out of the computer bizz. They don't even offer a mid range desktop anymore.
