Apple Maps! Looks like I've finally got access to something as good as Google Maps on Android now!
Will the navigation work on the iPhone 4?
True, but it also demonstrates how Apple is no fully focused on consumer grade gadgetry that appeals to kids, soccer moms, football dads - everyone but people who need professional grade screens and hardware. Makes sense from a business point of view. Sucks if you want to use the machines for photography or audio recording and end up with a pretty gadget-laden laptop that is good for going to Starbucks surfing the web.
That's an odd complaint to make today, given the new MacBook Pro.
No, it's not. That thing actually is the deal breaker. 1400x900 screen real estate is not a viable option. Unless they still offer an updated version of the current hi res matte 15" or 17" this machine will not work for photography or anything else that requires a lot of space. And without an option to add a second hard drive, it can't handle the necessary volume with a single SSD only. Add to that the need to carry around a bag full of expensive adapters just to cover the basics.
Looks like, yet again, I have to stick to Windows machines. Very very unfortunate given the potential that is obviously there but gets blown because the obsession with design. I don't care how flat and "beautiful" the thing is.
Errr... 2880x1800.
That's pixel density, but not pixel real estate. His point is a fair one. Although clarity is pristine, you've effectively only got 1440x900 pixels to move about in. As someone who uses the "high res" 15" option Apple has been offering the last few years, I'm going to have to see the Retina in person before I can make a decision. 1440x900 is very, very small.Errr... 2880x1800.
They are using crowd sourcing like Waze (I think they are actually using Wazes data). So it should be fairly accurate as a lot of folks use Waze.So I wonder how well their turn by turn will work compared to Navigon (which I already have)?
Hell, if their traffic is even almost as good as Google's it would be better (when I have cellphone service, Navigon I have the map on my phone) because Navigon's traffic reporting (which you pay extra for) is absolutely useless. I have yet to see it actually be able to see traffic or even worse, construction which should be easy for it to predict.
No mention of public transit or walking directions. So much for all the naysayers saying Apple would never be able to match Google's tiles. Well..."how u like dem apples?"
Any company has a target market. If they felt it was in their best interest to start that high, it would start that high.
Errr... 2880x1800.
What he's getting at is that, despite the huge bump in resolution, all the icons and interface space will still be exactly the same as they are on a 1440x900 screen.
Apple delivered! this is by FAR the best keynote I've ever seen from Apple. ^_^
