I hope they announce something tomorrow. I may well decide to wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation Apple Silicon 16" to sort out the compromises in the first generation, so the sooner the first gen Apple Silicon 16" is released the sooner the 2nd/3rd gen are likely to be released.
I'd love to wait for the 2nd/3rd generation as I know the iterative improvements on the hardware will be excellent and the ASi ship will be much, much faster. But, alas, I have a 2018 i9 and since I do a lot of 8K video editing and don't want to fry any more eggs this summer, I figure I'll upgrade now. In another 3 years, I'll trade it in and upgrade to an M5.

Sooooo…. If no MBP announced tomorrow do you think it is wise to pull the trigger on the current 13” M1 MBP?

That’s what my plan is at the moment as quite a few discounts on it here in the UK
They've got to ship a 16" by the end of this year so if you're okay with new models being released in 6 months, then yes. I might buy a refurbished M1 MBP 13" if for some reason, there's no announcement tomorrow. Those things are amazing- 20 hours battery life and very quiet. :)

I would be happy with a 14” not really interested in a 16”… I would like to see more ports, better webcam (1080p if possible), not fussed about the Touch Bar but don’t mind it being on it.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like these are the signs pointing towards a MBP of some sort tomorrow - Jon Prosser saying they’re coming, Bloomberg saying (at one point) the MBP is coming as soon as early this summer, that one wedbush leak, m2 production increasing in April, battery capacity possibly being leaked, specifics of the processor being leaked (such as core count), last 16” MacBook Pro update being about a year and a half ago (this is a pretty popular machine too for it to go so long untouched at full price), length of wwdc pointing to at least something else especially with the seemingly slim updates leaked for iOS and macOS, and no “professional” apple silicon even though its been a year since apple silicon (not m1) has been introduced.
These are the signs that it isn’t coming tomorrow - no mention of hardware in recent higher tier leaks, shipping dates of current MBP not letting up, no references within any version of macOS shows that apple silicon MacBook pros are coming soon (afaik), mini-led screens getting delayed, removal of touch bar if there is a redesign puts the m1 MacBook Pro in a strange spot, WWDC is a software and developer focused event, COVID related delays, and overall production of a redesigned MacBook Pro seemingly delayed.
there’s probably more Idk
what im trying to say is that it seems like a lot of the things pointing towards a reveal tomorrow isn’t based on any evidence from apple - and things pointing against it such as shipping and operating system references do not point towards anything tomorrow. i’d love to be wrong and honestly there’s not a lot of evidence pointing strongly either way but its beginning to seem like we should not be expecting new macbook pros tomorrow .... id really love to be wrong, im surprised they dont have any apple silicon machines that have more than four performance cores or greater than 16gb of ram........

Yeah the main things for me pointing to no hardware tomorrow are:

-The Touch Bar remaining on base MacBook Pro (although they could just throw an M1X in the current high end Pros and give a refresh next year).

-The delays with miniLED.

-The fact no leaks about a redesign came about until the hacking/ransom demand leaks, makes me think leakers have just presumed that is the design coming imminently, however it could quite easily be a prototype, an internal use Mac, an old prototype from years ago, or just a future redesign (apple can plan redesigns years in advance).

Could high end MacBooks come this summer? probably yes… will they have a redesign? I really am not sure about it at this point, I would say it’s about a 50/50 chance.

Hardware is coming.

Apple knows people are impatient and how little has been said about the next level up from the M1.

More importantly developers need to know and get excited about the hardware.

There hasn't been many leaks at all for this WWDC, few leaks with the redesign could just mean Apple is keeping everything tight-knit along with their other software announcements. However, this doesn't mean they are going to announce the new MBP's either. What it does mean is that we could be in for some good surprises tomorrow.

You mean surprises like the new Mac Mini after they announce the new MBPs? 😉😄💻

Ok this is weird all the Apple executives on twitter changed their profile pics to memojis but they are in front a laptop.

I fully expect new hardware to be announced. Especially the newer more professional grade processors coming up it is appropriate to announce it at a developer's conference so developers can bring their software that M1 wasn't good enough for or improve on their software for the additional cores and things like that.

Of course hardware will be announced since apple is doing state of the union after WWDC at 2PM PDT

apple had many virtual events now including WWDC and apple brass never changed their profile pic before an event
We’ll see in 12 hours. There is still a high chance of MacBook Pro announcement. “Early this summer” as reported by Gurman could be the WWDC.

True, Kuo at least hasn't gotten any more specific than 'H2 2021'... if not WWDC when would the next good opportunity to launch be though? They will certainly want an event for a big redesign and unveiling a completely new chip SKU, and while a special MacBook Pro event in late June, July or August is certainly possible, for June it seems odd not to just roll it into WWDC, and in August you risk overshadowing the iPhones at the start of September. That leaves a July event, which fits with the traditional summer MBP releases, the rumours of H2 2021, but if the launch is to be early July then a MBP announcement at WWDC 1 month prior also fits. An announcement early July with a launch at the end of July also potentially eats into iPhone buildup coverage throughout August, so maybe also not desirable.
If there isn't a MBP announcement at WWDC, I could view it as "glass half full" because it makes it more likely that the release will have a second generation "M2" this year with core microarchitecture improvements (maybe 15-20% increase in core performance). If there is a release that is just a scaled-up M1, then it might mean a wait of 9-12 months until the next generation of Apple Silicon. Hopefully we can have both in July/August, but this is just my wishful thinking!

M1 had a fall launch and that didn't eat into iPhone build-up coverage. Plus, it's likely that this year's iPhone launch will happen on time. Fall also seems to be the natural reset of Apple's SoC calendar anyway, at least it has been since Jobs died: A6/X came out in Fall 2012; A7 in Fall 2013; A8/X in Fall 2014; A9/X in Fall 2015; A10 in Fall 2016 with A10X coming out that next summer; A11 in Fall 2017; A12/X in Fall 2018; A13 in Fall 2019; A14 in Fall 2020 with M1 also in Fall 2020 (and "A14X" presumably not existing with M1 effectively taking its place). Fall 2021 would make sense for M2 and A15, assuming Apple keeps up with its release patterns and, unlike Jobs, Tim Cook is all about predictable release patterns. If these MacBook Pros are to be built on a superset of M1 - a would-be M1X, then an imminent announcement makes the most sense. However, if these are to be based on A15, then a fall M2 launch makes the most sense.

Considering that I/O and RAM limitations seem to be M1's Achilles Heel, and seeing as these are downgrades in the recently launched M1 24" 4.5K iMac from its Intel predecessor (that are likely tolerable for that Mac's target market audience in the way that it wouldn't be for 16" MacBook Pro customers), it's possible that an M1X that remedies this could come out imminently. But I can't imagine that a whole next generation of M-series SoCs won't have any of those changes baked in (much in the way that AxX series chip innovations usually trickled into the subsequent non-X A-series SoC).

For me to move over from my current 16" it would require the 14 to feature...

- Mini LED
- 16GB on the Base Model
- Around those rumoured 16 GPU Cores
- Battery life around 15h

I wouldn't mind the 256GB storage, but the 512GB I have on my 16" is pretty cool to save some additional media and stuff that I need.

Honestly I'm just tired of dealing with the bloody heat and how big/heavy this computer is
My minimum requirement for upgrading my MBP16 to an Apple Silicon 14" would be:
1) 2nd generation core architecture ("M2" or whatever they call it) - expecting improvements in single-core and multi-core performance per core
2) 8 performance cores
3) Ability to specify 32GB RAM
4) GPU performance similar or better than an AMD 5600M in top-end Intel MBP16
