I only downloaded the Safari file rather than Safari and Quicktime.. could that be the reason why it's crashing at startup?

Windows or Mac? I downloaded Safari only on Windows. Apart from a few complaints about UI design decisions, I haven't had any issues, no crashes.

This could replace Firefox for me in Windows and OS X when it's finally released, if there were some way of syncing between it running in OS X and Windows (I use Google Browser Sync for this in Firefox), and if they released it for Linux, since I spend 90% of my work time using Linux.

After about ten minutes using Firefox, IE 7 and Safari, I see memory usage:
Firefox: 74 MB
Safari: 56MB
IE7: 49MB

So it's not a memory hog, yet - it's too early to see if there's any memory leaks.

As for CPU, it's equivalent to IE and Firefox. Viewing my employers website, which has a Flash video, all three peak at about 23% CPU. Memory usage is up to 84MB for FF, 63MB for Safari, IE down to 39MB.

It is here....

One is this

safari_noweb.jpg

which is caused by the proxy requirement of SKY.com

but cannot be solved due to this little beauty;

@rses.

Yeah, wow. Downloaded it on my work PC and cannot connect outside of my building because I cannot set my proxy.

I'm really disappointed in Apple. How do you release a web browser that doesn't support proxies? Just makes you look stupid.

Windows XP SP2.. It installed OK, but crashes everytime when I start it.

The XP version for some reason just feels really out of place.
I didn't get asked to reboot, but it has frozen up a couple times already (especially with multiple tabs open)

Unimpressed

It can be zippity in some pages, but in the age of broadband, who cares?
*Ugly theme/buttons
*Ugly window buttons (minimize/maximize/restore/close)
*Clicking taskbar does not minimize it
*"You haven't entered anything in Google box" Geez, maybe I just wanted to intuitively go to Google.com
*"great" Apple UI everywhere, for example, windows only resizable via bottom right.
*Click on a .wmv, it opens in WMP. In IE7 or FF, they give choice to download or open, and FF even lets me pref to automatically download
*Lack of favicons in bookmarks bar
*RSS button unstandard. IE and FF have come to truce with this
*no autoscroll
*middle click doesn't close tabs, open tabs from bookmarks bar
*No "recently closed tabs"
*no status bar by default
*no inline spell check
*no double click tab bar to get new tab
*crashed twice already, FF crashes maybe once a week
*no adblocking
*no "google/yahoo search suggest"
*backspace doesn't go back
*edit bookmarks name/address separately, huh?
I could go on and on. Wow, so this is how you Maccies have been browsing? Boo

edit:, like swc, I got 200K memory. Now 100K and I've only been MacRumoring.

Boo Beta 3 doesn't work with any of my plugins. They should really have features from Saft and Pithelmet built into Safari!

I downloaded both....and the both are great. No big problems yet....I do like the look of Safari on Windows more....I mean the lack of brushed metal, other then that the UI on Safari on OS X is better.

The taking of tab, and making them a new windows is really cool!

It took a bit before the page was up. Kept getting directed to Safari 1.0.2. I'm definitely going to have to play with this at home some.

I like consistency between browsers. Now I just need a convenient way to sync my bookmarks between my PowerBook and my PC at home/work.

when browser sync plugin happens, like firefox/google's solution, i'm completely onboard.

like safari so much more then firefox

r.

Downloaded and installed Safari just fine. I can't work with the font though. Everything looks bolded. It gives me a headache. I guess it's back to FF for now.

Safari still looks dull. Safari & FF bookmark bars compared (let's see if attachments worked right)

You realize this is still in beta. They have a lot of work ahead of them. And if you don't like the look of it then don't use it.

safari 3 beta still doesn't deal with links in gmail properly... can't open them in a damn tab... I DONT WANT TO OPEN IT IN A NEW WINDOW APPLE!

Same here. Installed OK, can never get it to run. Starts to show the Tabs / main menu part of the top of the form then I get a exception / crash in coregraphics.dll. I was really hoping to use it on Windows.

CANEHDN, what's special about "find"? FF already had it and could specify"match case".

ready2switch, go to technoarti.com. With Safari's boldening, technorati's search is near unreadable. IE7 also "smooths" fonts but is readable.

Google Docs!!

I feel all of your lukewarm responses, but go to google docs and spreadsheets. Even thought a pop-up will tell you they don't work, they most certainly do! Finally! I tried it thes morning before the keynote and the same happy google coming soon message was up. But still no g-chat in gmail. So that should answer all those iPhone questions about business apps, you can do it all in the cloud! I just joined for this post, so I'll talk to you all soon. Happy threading.
