Wow. I didn't catch that. That blows though - being able to resize on any side or any corner is one of the best things about windoze - surprised Apple still thinks only on resize corner is a good thing.

I think if we need any proof that it was just a port the window resizing was it. This could back fire on apple if they do not fix it like windows allow on every side and corner.

that being said about time apple reliezed the only way that they are going to people to make websights that they check to make sure works with safria is to have it running on windows.

Does Safari 3 install a new Dock or something? Installing it reset my Dock and now it won't work with the utilities I use to customize it.

How do I revert to the old Dock?

Hud

Hi guys. I've been long time mac user (since os 8.6) reading the forums for a while now but this is my virgin post here. Just wondering if any of you have tried right clicking in your browser window. Cool tool they have here.

Seems like it calls up an Aperture/iPhoto-ish HUD. Pretty cool if you're interested in how a site is coded or debugging a website.

No del.icio.us plug-ins Windows is a dealbreaker for now...

I installed Safari 3 on Windows XP Pro and haven't encountered any crashes. My first impression is that the browser is indeed faster on Windows than Firefox (my default browser).

Unfortunately, *the* killer feature on Firefox is the del.icio.us integration, IMHO, so until Safari gets a decent plug-in that I can use on Windows, I'm afraid I'll be sticking to Firefox for now.

Oh, and the site also doesn't work with the Yahoo Mail Beta, which is another major bummer but not nearly as much as the del.icio.us thing...

*crashed twice already, FF crashes maybe once a week
I agree about the look and feel but most of your complaints are likely to be addressed as this moves out of beta.

But if you're getting FF crashing even once a week, there's something wrong with your machine. I can't remember the last time FF crashed on me, and Safari 3 beta hasn't crashed once yet on me.

Welcome! That looks like a pretty tight feature, like you said, PERFECT for debugging.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show up here in XP SP2. At work I'm running the Beta on a Dell with a 2.8Ghz P4 with 512MB of RAM. Works perfectly. I like that find feature! Bookmarks, tabs, icons, everything seems to work well. Fast, and no crashes yet. We'll see what happens when I click 'Submit Reply'

That'll probably be my first crash.

I installed it on Vista Business.

I really like the UI and the font - it looks great. But it's crystal clear it's still a beta - it's as shaky as Bush's logic.

The text is like:

blah blah________
blah blah_________blah blah_____

ergo, a lot of weird lines, and no headers. Very weird. But meh, it's a beta (though I think a better moniker would be Alpha).

But it looks much better than FF and the search is great (the IE search is so arcane I fell lilke a cave troll when using it).

i'm still in the office, so i'm using safari on vista right now... was trying to post a reply then it crashed.

first crash so far... will keep using it and see how it goes...

CANEHDN, what's special about "find"? FF already had it and could specify"match case".

ready2switch, go to technoarti.com. With Safari's boldening, technorati's search is near unreadable. IE7 also "smooths" fonts but is readable.

When you find something now it grays the screen slightly and highlights. Much easier to find the text your searching for. I use search quite a bit in Firefox and it can take a few seconds sometimes to find the text it's found.

What system are you using?

I don't see that in safari 3/tiger/macbook

btw safari seems fine for me so far, had it open about half an hour. 1 page (musicnonstop.co.uk) is rendered badly but all other sites are rendered better than before :) and I like the new features

I'm having to switch to a PC at work sometime this year. At least having Safari there will make it a little more palatable.

Thanks for the welcome! Love reading the posts on this forum, but somehow I just never got around to posting anything. http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/redface.gif

Looks like the debugging tool/inspector is a mac only feature for now then?

Running a dual-core powermac g5 right now. Pretty speedy on this machine i must say, definitely a lot faster than v2. Compatibility is brought up to scratch with FF, especially on Web2.0 pages like wordpress, although it does take quite a while to cache some of the pages.

Others on Macs are having trouble seeing this.

Are you in authoring? Is it possible you have software that now works with Safari to enable that feature?

Am I the only who doesn't see any difference at all? Seems exactly like Safari 2 except for the "Safari 3.0" in the about box. Still brushed metal and all...

You don't see any difference? It's a LOT faster than Safari 2.0, at least on my Mac mini G4/1.42GHz.

I think Safari for Windows is essentially a waste of time..

I rather see Apple concentrate on what they do best, not create new Windows apps...

Safari for Windows = you can test your web apps for Safari, which means OS X and iPhone. It's a good thing.

Like I said a couple of posts ago, I'm on a dual-core powermac g5. Haven't tried it on my MBP or Ti PowerBook yet so I'll update later when i get around to it. Tiger 10.4.9 on all systems.

Why are the cool Macs getting metal, while all the Windows nerds get the hot tan????!!!!

Can you explain that Mr. Jobs? Can you?! Can you?!! :p

Crashes behind proxy...

Safari for Windows crashes for me behind a proxy. It brings up a dialog asking for my proxy credentials and then bombs. :(

Oh well, back to firefox.
