Nope. You do not. I cancelled the Next plan on my account at the Apple Store. AT&T's physical stores have nothing to do with it.

But you can't reserve a phone for pickup with a pending order. So you'd have to do a walk-in which means that you risk the inventory selling out before you get there.

Canceled order but won’t let me order again due to pending att next still showing up. Been on phone with Att for over an hour now. Seems their system doesn’t work real fast. WTH!

Weird. I did the same exact thing and it was almost instant (took 2 minutes to reset). I waited for the cancellation email from Apple and ordered with no hiccups. Sucks you have to call att

Yeah, feel bad cause I was just about to give folks a heads up that when I cancelled my Next order, it took about 3-4 minutes for my eligibility to come back.

It's true Apple never literally said there was a supply shortage BUT it did say it had an order/supply imbalance at last Thursday's conference call. Also launch day delivery went from to 3-4 weeks in the span of 8 minutes at the start of pre-ordering; many people couldn't get into the Apple Store at the start; Apple reported orders would take 5-6 weeks most of the week only to get lowered towards the end. But even with this time improvement Tim Cook warned customers to get to stores early, which I think a reasonable person could infer as there wouldn't be a lot of walk-in supply.

I don't think it's such a far stretch to read between those lines of Apple supplied official-speak. Apple said nothing to calm "fears" of weak supply, nothing in the way it had enough walk-in supply at it's biggest volume stores to last part of the launch weekend. It wanted the lines and chaos. I don't know why because the X is a great phone and it's quite able to speak for itself without the circus. Please, Apple is a smart company capable of the most sophisticated computer sales estimations. Let's not pretend it's a mom and pop organization run on QuickBooks.

So yeah, now when many stores have good supply people are wondering. Historically, Apple has always had decent iPhone supply all launch weekend for most generations.

Correct, it's not a mom and pop store. It is a publicly traded company that cannot legally lie to shareholders. Demand is outstripping supply, especially outside the US. My store ran out of Verizon halfway through the line yesterday. I have not checked, possibly they have more today, but that comes from people not picking them up and the daily shipments they are getting.

All of this does not mention the great lengths they have gone to to try to limit the lines. Angela Ahrnedts has even publicly stated they do not want lines if I remember correctly.

In the UK, if I opt to pickup in store, do I pay straight away, or when I go in to collect it?

I currently have an IUP set to come on December 1, but I’m wondering if that’ll screw me when trying to order through the IUP link. Was thinking I may just reserve and collect, then pivot to IUP when I get there.

Funny how all these stores have plenty of stock and it putting a hurt on the resale profit. Good to know users can get them at store pricing.

1. Being upfront to shareholder AND customers is possible. It's not a Hobson's choice.

2. At least at the location I was at the store management did nothing to mitigate lines. By only taking reservations once line waiters go to the front of the line it actively made the wait and line longer than necessary. If employees had continued down the line taking reservations line waiters could have quickly dispersed and returned when it was there turn. But that didn't happen until hours after the store opened and the media has their photographs and video.

From many threads, it sounds like there's always shortage rumors leading up to every iphone launch. However, since the X was a brand new design with new internal tech, I believed them this time as it sounded reasonable considering it launched weeks after the 8. But my local stores also have both Xs in stock today. I think this is the last time I pay attention to any shortage rumors in the future.

That's the best way to deal with scalpers and resellers. Flood the market with product. I can only imagine how the buyers on eBay and Craigslist are going to feel when they realize that they spent ~$500 extra when they could've walked into the Apple Store to buy one the next day at list price. Not to mention the people who camped outside the Apple Store for days to get the phone one day early...

i know this has been asked but can i reserve one full price now then return it and get it upgrade program?

Apple generally will put your item back as long as it has not been opened. You have to repurchase it. The problem is the time of inventory processing. It may prevent you to repurchase it especially when your item configuration stock is not available. Good luck!!

Yes. Apple should do this in every launch to prevent scalpers and resellers to take advantage and rip people off.
