I think if Samsung did that then their phones would no longer be Samsung phones. All of their features are because of the Samsung experience. If they used a close to stock skin they wouldn’t be able to include many of the features they do on their phones.

That’s the nature of android. It’s not about everyone being like stock android. It’s open and there is choice for the consumer.

They might have to take internal metrics and possibly eliminate unused features to improve efficiency because the kitchen sink approach could be holding back stability and longevity. Debloating their excess apps might improve efficiency too. It doesn't have to be 100% close to stock. HTC and Sony have cleaner Android skins with strong performance though? Motorola packs quite a bit of features on top of near stock Android.

I don't really see it as much of a comparison. Hardware is great on both phones, but it ultimately comes down to OS preference. If you like Android, you go with the the Note. If you like iOS, you go with the XS Max. Your OS preference will decide which is better for you.

People get all bent out of shape over this. When it comes down to it, you simply take a step back and look at what you do on your phone daily for pleasure and/or work. Then you decide which of the two handles those tasks better. That is the better phone for you. It's that simple.

The one main thing I wish Apple would incorporate into their iPhones is split screen multitasking, especially now that phones are creeping up on the size of iPads now.

This exactly. It's going to really boil down to software capability soon once uninterrupted edge-to-edge displays are a thing. Physical design will be essentially the same head on and what sets each manufactures device apart will be their implementation of it. I'll be very curious to see what the future holds, I'm wondering if current manufactures of entire phones turn into hardware suppliers for a narrow list of brands of smartphones.

I think in the real world your phones would have a sim card inserted so you can make calls.

I do agree with you. Real life you won't be able to tell the phones apart unless you put them right next to each other. Same with the cameras. That post was just for FRR who thinks Apple can do no wrong. It's no fun debating with level headed people. It's the delusional ones that are fun.

"my phone can't do this but HARDWARE!"
My phone has an A12 chip and is made of glass and stainless steel so is automatically better than any other phone.

With that being said, I think the topic ran its course since it just boils down to personal preference. I do agree that the iPad multi-tasking should be on the X/XS/Max/Plus sized devices.

If you’re a power user, your only option is android. I’m not a power user anymore, so iOS suits me just fine.

When did power user translate to torrenting and watching YouTube while on macrumors?

Well if you listen to boomer11 you also have to add scrolling screenshot.

Yes then I’m defiantly not a power user.

That sounds extremely shallow, Android phones also have glass backs in fact many of them have Ceramic backs like Xiaomi phones, what's up with the A12? Is it going to make you open Instagram 0.1 second faster? which in fact it doesn't if you watch a speed test. I remember when Apple CPU's used to be weak compared to Snapdragon or Exynos, Apple users always said how the specs "didn't matter", and that was 5 years ago before the iPhone 6. Do they suddenly matter now in 2018 when phone technology is so advanced? If 95% of Apple users won't notice the difference in screen resolution of the 828p iPhone XR as they say, will they notice a 0.01% speed difference in opening an App? Kinda ironic isn't it?

I gave up on Samsung. I have owned many of the notes from the note 2,4,7, and 8. They always grab me with what the Spen can do and other features they offer that many people has talk about here. I like the notes for work devices. The spen always came in handy for quick notes on troubles i was working on. well for the first 2 weeks i used it then started to forget about it then the spen hardly ever got used.

about 6 weeks before the note 9 came out my 8 was losing sync to my work email. VPN wouldn't stay connected things like opening a msg to emails opening got way to laggy. Gave up after some clean up and getting emails to resync then quickly went right back into issues.

I went from a note 8 as my work device to a iphone 7+ and it ran like a champ. Decided to skip the note 9 and get a max making my x my work device. Until Samsung can clean up the software and make a phone run actually good for a year + no way i am going back to anything with Samsung name on it.

It was a joke.

I’ve actually said many times that in real life usage there isn’t really any need for the A12 or even the A11 because there’s nothing I do on my phone that can use all of that power.

As for it being made of stainless steel and glass it’s nice but it doesn’t mean that there aren’t other nice looking phones made of other materials like aluminium and glass.

I see, sorry I thought you meant it since there was no sense of sarcasm on your message.

Your confusing hardware with performance, it’s not the same. Sort of like the time you confused ppi and resolution.

But I’m not surprised.

I like how in your own screen shots you can't even get rid of that nav bar lol. Now that's what you call amazing ui, am I right?

Yours is more like errors caused by the user. Software would not suddenly not work unless something was done to cause it to fail.

What if your xs max got issue with signal will you abandon it so easily?

She was just being sarcastic.......look at her post history. She is pretty objective and not shallow at all :)

No setting and so on where change with my work email account or vpn. I check with group that runs the email servers they did not change anything also. My data group couldn't explain why the VPN would drop also. to get the emails working again i had to troubleshot it and ended up rebuilding the account on the device to only work for a week or two before the sync issues start to happen once more. One of my co workers with a S7 was having the same issue but other ones with some cheap LG phone had zero issues and others with iphones no issues. It was something with samsung devices.

Yes i would drop my X or Max if i was having issues with them. I need devices to work not devices to try them and make work.

I actually drop my S8 due to issues for the note 8 at the end of last year. 2 S8's both had screen issues.

True but why pay the same price when components that make up the phone aren’t

You forgot nvme, 3d biometrics, and 4K @60fps to be honest.

Thought we were talking about battery life. H
Wasn’t that the point of your post?

Are you moving the goal posts again?
Your not very good at it.

This thread, like the hundreds similar, never stood a chance. From the very beginning, an individual came to an Apple centric forum to state that “aside from battery life, the Note 9 absolutely destroys the Max in every other way”.

Gee, what could possibly come from a thread that starts like this? A flame war? D**k measuring contest? Insults? Personal attacks? And as such, all have occurred.

I cannot possibly believe these threads are made without pure intent of creating drama. No one is that naive. But instead of just using the device that suits one best and living life, they come here to stir the pot.

I wish threads like this were closed right from the start. I got sucked in. I admit it. I come to MacRumors because it caters to my phone and OS preference. I don’t come and take a dump on your lawn. Be considerate and show the same respect. If you want to thumb your nose at the phone(s) most of us love, and sing praises to your alternative, I have a list of other forums that would love to gush right along with you.

There's also an "Alternative to iOS" forum right here at MacRumors in which this would fit nicely. Like you, I got pulled in because it's a slow day at work. Must not be the case for the mods.

So many comments in here just make me laugh. Seems none of you have owned a recent Android phone, or iPhone.

I just had a Note 9 for a full month. It was an awesome experience other than a few bugs and battery life. Sadly, I did return it for an Xs Max, that is the best phone I have owned even over the Note 9.

The Note 9, had issues and here they were. One was the battery life. For a 4000 mah battery, it did not last as long as it should have. At first, I did get a full day, with around 50% left. But after the first update, it dropped to 30% from 6am to 7pm. Sometimes I had to charge it up mid day just to get through the evening. Accubattey did not show any apps draining it. Android System however was draining it a bunch. The camera has a lot of freezing up issues. And this is a known issue with 15 pages of comments currently on Samsung Community forums of people having issues. I didn't notice it till I had my camera running in 4k for a few minutes and then it just started to freeze.

Also, I had worse anxiety with that device having to constantly watch the battery, and find what apps were killing it, or fixing app issues. Yes, you can customize the background and stuff, but you know what, that wasn't worth it when I spent a lot of time fixing the issues. It is similar to Windows vs Mac.

I loved the screen on the Note 9, and so do I like the Max screen. Obviously the MAx has the best screen out of all phones per displaymate. The headphone jack was nice, used it a few times. I hate the curved screen on the sides. Still had issues setting off the side bar with it.

The Max on the other hand, is a smooth experience. It is faster, battery life just kills the Note 9. I have 70% at the end of the day after the same type of usage I did with the Note 9. I have no issues with any of my Apps, and FaceID 2nd gen works great compared to the X I had. So far, I only have one complaint on the iPhone and it's the true tone gets on my nerves. I turned it off and all is good now. I do wish Apple in the mail app would allow swipe to the next message instead of the arrows at the top. Makes it easier to go between them. I have no wifi or cellular signal issues like some say they are having. Mine is stronger than my Note 9 or my work phone s9+ I have now. I get faster speeds on it than either of those.

Pick the phone you like, and I am sure it will do what you want and make you happy. But my opinion is, if you want a nice build quality, reliability, and the phone just works good at all things, the iPhone is your choice. The Note 9, or any Android phone for that matter, is for those that like to tinker and fix things or customize things all the time. That is not me as my job is in IT and I am tired of fixing things on my own stuff when I do it every day for other people.

Hope this helps some make a choice. No favoritism here, I just prefer the iPhone at this time.

No sure what was the problem with your note9 or s9. Most probably it is isolated case.

This is my battery life of my Note9. And I'm a very heavy users with at least 280 apps and games (excluding themes icon packs and live wallpaper). I have lots of automation setup with Tasker too.

Pointless thread intended to get iPhone lovers angry.

To bad it ends that way. Goes to show you how much maturity that’s around us. I use both android I don’t go saying this is the only way. Apple does a lot of **** great and right n android does a lot of **** great and right. I will say this though. If android figures out one thing and one thing alone they would be so far on top they couldn’t be caught. That’s to challenge apple and I mean really challenge them with iMessage and I can tell you now RCS is not it period. To many carriers involved with RCS do like apple tell and dictate what it’s going to be and keep your bloat off my ****get a app

I've owned plenty of Android phones (I was never fully satisfied with ANY of them). I never owned a Note 9 but I went in to T-Mobile tonight to try one. Out of nowhere, the orientation flipped and locked upside down which I found to be an odd issue...
