the reason why its more 'yellow' is due to the wider color gamut. you get more color detail. a lot of uninformed consumers will like the blue-point look since they are used to it and looks brighter. its why for tv's at stores they are in demo mode giving the same blue look as its 'brighter'

i have a spyder5 pro calibration device and after every calibration the colof profile looks warmer, but you are actually getting more accurate colors and detail from the images you look at.

really frustrating that people are returning their phones for new ones that are going to be the same.

Two things are getting muddled here. The white of ANY display that is correctly calibrated to D65 will look the same. If it looks different then it is not D65. This is the same whether it is an SRGB gamut, a DCI-P3 gamut or REC2020 gamut. It is the same whether its OLED, Projector, LCD or CRT. There are external factors, such as the iPhone 7 display is heavily affected by the color of ambient lighting reflecting off it. So an evaluation by human eye should be done in a dark room. The displays of many 6S phones was not D65 and had a cooler color temperature, that is true. The average 7 display seems to be warmer which is fine. But what isn't fine is one that literally looks like someone peed on it, or is half one tint and half another (very common this year). Also no two phones are the same. There are photos in this thread with people with two iPhone 7 handsets side by side with very different tints to them. There is most certainly a broad level of inconsistency.

Accurate is one thing, but there are most certainly bad handsets out there this year. And it is true, that some may be returning handsets that are actually fine but we must be careful not to tar everyone with the same brush here.

I wasnt aware of the issue of tints differing. I would say that the vast majority are just noticing the warmer color and assuming they have a defective display when thats not the case.

Thank you for clarifying and making distinction between those having legitimate issues and those that arent.

Remember when Night Shift being on used to be the only "yellow" problem?

I've been seeing tons of commercials on my visit to the states about the iPhone 7. Between this thread and the hissing, I think I'll wait for the next one before I upgrade.

Youre wrong on the majority and if you had bothered to read the thread at all you would've noticed that your statement has been made by about 50 other people. Really tiring when people come in thinking they have the answer and say the exact same thing that's been debunked 50 times already.

So, I've now gone through 4 iPhone 7s. 2 pluses and 2 regular. All of them had noticeably none uniform screens with the bottom being a little warmer than the rest. I've decided to give up.

That's how all the phones are. People just don't expect better or can't tell.

Well....really? It makes to hesitate to the store for the replacement. Mine is iPhone7 and everything is fine except the bottom warmer. Actually it don't so obvious but also noticeable....

Yea. Unless I had just really bad luck that's just how they are, at least right now.

Maybe later in the year it'll be different. ????

I know man. It's so ridiculous seeing the same posts day after day how yellow is somehow normal. Yes the 7/7+ have warmer screens, that's normal. Piss yellow is not normal and that's the defect we're all talking about.

Also "wide gamut" showing a wider spectrum of colors has nothing to do with whites being piss yellow. The display is simply capable of displaying a wider range of colors. I love that people are spewing out nonsense about piss yellow= superior wide color gamut. OK, so going by this logic with say TVs, HDR capable TV sets should also be piss yellow because of superior color range? Give me a break. Colors pop more and whites are brighter white. Not yellow. That is HDR and also wider color gamut. My old wide color gamut IPS monitor was not piss yellow either.

There should be a PSA that pops up daily in this stupid thread...

Just got my JB 7+ delivered. It has a bright beautiful screen. Luckily no yellowgate issues here! Looks better than my 6S Plus' screen. So happy I lucked out! Gorgeous!

It does look a little warmer at the bottom though just like all the ones I've seen.
don't tell him come on....not all the people can see it. I am annoyed about being able to recognize it. And I am envy about the people who don't see it....Because once you see it, you can not ignore it anymore.....

If that doesn't bother him, then you got a keeper!

Congrats!

No reason for him not to know. The fact is they are all like that. I've gone through 4. Weeks apart too. Plus and regular. He won't get better. And you can only see it in the right light.

yeah i have to say this is the worst year since the 4S. That year, it was almost impossible to get an even tinted screen. Until I got one in November and got an absolute gem.

Deleted prior post. Another poster indicated that phone on left was 6S due to gray/silver side.

View attachment 662618 Just visited my local Apple Store and have found one that does not look yellow. IPhone 7Plus on the left definitely looks whiter/cooler than the IPhone 7 on the right. Both phones have brightness maxed out.
The one on the left is a 6 or 6S plus you can see the space grey boarders when you zoom in, nice try though lol

you can see that the phone on the left is a space gray plus, I guess the poster forgot that space gray is not an option for the 7 plus

Screen on the left looks good but if its a 6s that explains it

Ah crud! I see what you mean with the gray edge. This photo was taken at the Apple Store. Both phones were side by side on the table. They must have interchanged 6's and 7's on the same table.

Haha that's makes sense if they were side by side at the Apple Store I've made that same confusion also when I was there, wish they had changed the design factor instead of making the 6s plus look the same as the 7 plus.

You're fine, just don't put it next to 6s on that screen lol. I've compared mine to 7 other 7/7+ phones. All the same. I swear my whites or white balance has gotten cleaner after having it for 12 days now, could be placebo or now used to the new display coming from my 6s.

In any even I'm enjoying the screen and colors, I'm used to the warmer screen now & the wider color gamut is awesome.

Im pretty picky so if it's not bothering me that's saying something haha. Phone meets my expectations and would hate to exchange it only to possibly actually get a really crappy screen or another flaw on the phone by bad luck. Beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

In other good news with this whole yellow gate. The camera is freaking awesome, especially in low light.
