I have till this Friday to return my 13 Pro, am really tempted to try the 13 Mini... how's the battery life though? And I'm not sure whether I'm gonna miss the telephoto lens.. I'm sure I will miss 120 Hz though.
I LOVE the 13 mini and it’s a noticeable improvement over the 12 mini. Get a silicon case from apple with it and it’s the perfect size. Battery for me has been great. When’s the last time you’ve ever run out? I have chargers everywhere so even when I hop in the vehicle I’m good. I’m pretty active on my phone, too

Have you made a return decision yet? If so, what are some reasons for returning, or keeping, the 13 Pro?

I was upgrading from an XR (effectively a forerunner of the 13 rather the Pro) and seriously considered the 13, but in the end the Pro just offers a lot more. People are talking about the camera bump as if it’s just a design thing and a cosmetic choice, and rather ignoring the fact that there are an extraordinary set of cameras in there that do add up to quite a difference for those of us interested in that.

I’m used to pro-motion on the ipad and certainly don’t see that as a gimmick at all, again it makes a big difference to me and is something the 13 should probably have too to be honest.

Battery life on my old XR was always very good, as I understand it that took a hit on last year’s 5G models, but with the Pro it more than matches (and probably beats) my XR which is more than good enough for me, given all the extra power it’s delivering.

I think the bottom line for me is the longevity - we’re long past the point really where phones are something you upgrade all the time, and I felt with this upgrade it was probably going to be a phone that I’ll keep for some years, and with the extra ram and horsepower (and stainless steel build) it’s going to be more pleasant to use for that much longer.

I agree with the OP for the most part. They discontinue pro models each year starting now so the value will remain on the normal iphone 13 or even the 12 until further notice. But my motto remains, there is nothing pro about a iphone pro so the regular iphone is typically everything you need for a iPhone.

I personally prefer the aluminum build of the 13/12 than this 13 pro max that I got but 120HZ is far from a gimmick, it’s freaking awesome

Had a black 12 last year for 6 months, slippery, smudge magnet, poor battery, no telephoto. Worse than the 11 pro I had. Swapped to a 12 max and now 13 max.
I prefer quality not budget phone.

I went from an iPhone XR to the 13. #1 priority was lighter weight (but the same sized screen).

The improved battery life, improved camera, Qualcomm X60 modem, and 128GB base storage made it a no brainer for me. The great thing about the 13 line is most everyone can find the perfect match for them.

Very much looking forward to the 14 Pro with titanium.

Since when is an $800 phone a budget phone lol
Was tongue in cheek.

One thing I missed though was the screen brightness on the 12 was average v the max, especially outdoors, Guessing 13 is similar difference.
So in a way yes budget features, apple stuff is a ripoff anyway whatever you buy lol

Still wouldn’t consider it budget features at all by any means. Battery life on the 13 is really good, screen is even brighter than last years, sensors from the 12 pro max camera with improvements. The smudge magnet could also be said about the stainless steel on the pros.

Good for you! I wouldn’t do it personally, the macro camera and 120hz are probably one the best things they’ve added that I’ve enjoyed so much. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about an iPhone.

I'm not buying a new phone this year, but I also prefer the regular 13 to the pro. And I say that as someone who does have the pro version of my current phone (the 11).

For me, I didn’t expect the ultrawide would be this good on the Pro. So sticking with the Pro.

I kinda feel bad saying this but all you’ve done in all you’re bullet points is try and convince yourself that you did the right thing.

120hz is NIGHT & Day better in response time and feel. smooth as butter. it really becomes apparent when the 13 pro or pro max hits low power mode it’s a blurry mess as you’re eyes have to try and adjust again.

Sorry but the 13 is a inferior product vs the pro and most certainly the PRO MAX.

What was/were your decision(s) for swapping out the 13 pro for the standard 13? Curious as I keep going back and forth on the 13 Pro and standard 13. Had the 13 Pro for less than 48 hours then returned it because Got the pinky/forearm discomfort and wasn't a fan of the camera bump. Not sure if I should have given it more time to adjust. Coming from a 12 Pro.
Main reasons where the weight, camera bump and to be fair, it was overkill for me. I can do whatever I need to do on the 13, i,e message, mail, organise, call, photos, banking, weather, shopping, maps, podcasts etc etc. And I got a couple of hundred quid back as a refund on the price difference. Like I said before, the baddery seems just as good for a light user. For me, and I get it's not for everyone - it's a win win!

Inferior product? Give your head wobble mate. The 13 is a power house. The 13 pro and pro max is a power house with added meatballs. Horses for courses init. Enjoy what you got. As long as it does what you need it to do then everything is rosy in the Apple garden - no matter what phone you bought.

Yes it’s an inferior product.

Less battery vs pro max. Cameras aren’t as good, no 120hz, 4GB ram vs 6GB ram.

Cheaper build quality

Ermmm an inferior product.

I don't get what is really wrong with that lol. I mean we all buy products based on our own needs and wants. If those bullet points represent what OP thinks, wants, and/or needs... they should get the product that matches that or maybe they just wanted to see if others are in the same boat. I think whenever anyone buys a product they obviously work through the pros and cons and convince themselves to get the product that best matches their needs just like you likely did when you picked your phone. Regardless, the 13 lineup is excellent and there's a phone for everyone's wants, needs, and preferences.

7000 grade Aluminium is a more premium metal than the stainless steel Apple use. It also disperses heat better than stainless.

RAM isn’t an issue for those who aren’t going to use it, it’s there for ProRaw and ProRes etc.
If you are using your phone heavily, then yes that extra ram will come in handy though, I’m not saying it’s not beneficial but only to those that need it/ make use of it.

Build QUALITY is identical. In fact, the regular models don’t have gaps by the earpiece like a lot of the pro models do. So which has inferior build quality again?

You also said it’s an inferior product to the pro and especially the Pro Max… elaborate? As they are identical other than size. Bigger does not equal better.

People can be happy with whatever their choice of new phone, it’s not a competition.

I have the 13 mini - exactly a week at this point. Battery life on the 13 mini is not for phone power users. It gets me through the day, though I do my browsing on an iPad and half of my work emails on a desktop.

But I have no issue topping the battery off if I’m in the car, or dropping it on the wireless charger at my desk at work. If I was on the go all day long without access to a power source, the 13 mini might not be the phone I’d want. But as I’m pretty much only out in the open so to speak for only a few hours at a time, the mini works just fine for me.

I have no worries about battery health or babying the battery. When/if it’s significantly reduced, I’ll just get it replaced.

The normal 13’s are still great phones. Good oled panels, a15! just inferior. if 7000 aluminium is better than SS, then why is the cheaper phone not using it? and the pro using 7k series aluminium? Because it isn’t better at all.
