You call it what you like ... I have always known this game as "The National Championship"

Auburn 14-0

and do not worry it will be taken away from them in the next 2 years. It would be nice to see Auburn get the DP for the crap this year. From what I have read they are among the worse schools at getting busted for NCAA rule violations.

I'm disappointed Oregon lost. It was obvious that Auburn won the line of scrimmage battle with their tough defensive line. Without being able to run up the middle the "Robo"Ducks were thrown off their game. I don't understand why the Oregon coaching staff didn't make more adjustments. They didn't start rolling the QB out until toward the end of the game.

I think Oregon's defense did enough to win the game and the loss is squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff and the offenseive game plan. They showed guts with the first 2 point conversion and the fake kick, but you gotta kick that field goal in the fourth quarter instead of uselessly trying to run up the middle (again).

Oh well, now we look forward to next year. Go Vols!

I wish the refs could of won last night. I can't stand Oregon and I could care less about Auburn. Oh well. End of season. Time to lock the thread and go mess with the iPhone forums.

Boomer Sooner.

A few thoughts:

Cam Newton looked terrible last night (compared to how he played all year). That fumble was inexcusable and almost cost them the "championship". He went from G.O.A.T. to goat in record time, but the freshman RB pulled his dick out of the punch.

Auburn fans should enjoy this one while they can, because they're not going to have it very long. I really think the NCAA will play dumb and hammer Auburn when everything finally comes out. Yes they (the NCAA) was complicit, but that won't stop them from judging Auburn very, very harshly.

Les Miles should go to Michigan. LSU fans don't appreciate what he has done there. That being said, he's not going anywhere. Maybe Michigan decided not to offer him the job?

Agreed. The Duck O-line just got dominated by the Auburn D-line. Both teams showed poor judgement in going for it on 4th and 1 and not kicking the field goal. Given the nature of the offenses, I thought both defenses played surprisingly well.

I agree. He should of been tossed right then and there. Ridicules.

I was surprised he wasn't tossed. He should have been.

The Auburn defense was just as fast as the Oregon offense, and bigger. The same is true on offense. The Oregon lines just got worn out.

I swear, I have a love-hate relationship with the SEC. I love the money and exposure it brings to our program. I hate actually playing in the conference, especially the SEC West. Three of the past four BCS champs have come from the SEC West. Going back a bit further, you get four BCS championships. There have been two more teams that went undefeated in the regular season but didn't win the BCS title. And all of that is just in the West. Throw in Florida's two BCS titles for good measure, if you like.

Edit: Looks like Michigan has found their coach. They announced San Diego State coach Brady Hoke as their new coach today.

For that, we'll have to wait at least a year until Newton is safely in the NFL, and the only people that really get punished are all the upcoming kids currently in high school who won't be able to get a scholarship.

How the mighty have fallen...

I dunno. He may not be the biggest name out there, but he seems to be pretty good. He turned SDSU from 2-10 the year before he got there to 9-4 in a pretty good MWC, with a bowl win over a decent Navy team. He led Ball State to a 12 win season, which may be a minor miracle. You do have to wonder why some bigger names like Harbaugh and Miles (twice) turned them down, though.

As a Stanford fan, I have to ask-

How does this game reflect the competitive level in the Pac-10? I mean Oregon looked like a mortal-they looked like a team that anyone could have beaten. It seems to me at least that Auburn took the Cal game footage and reviewed, scrutinized and analyzed every play.

I will admit that the overall competition in the Pac-10 is weak-but for a team that averaged over 35 pts a game to be held to 19 points-that makes we wonder if anyone from the Pac-10 can be taken seriously?

IT just shows the SEC knows how to play defense, unlike most of the Pac-10. :)

Seriously, though, I think it just shows the two teams were evenly matched. I think both teams also showed signs of being out of practice after that long layoff. Had they played in the middle of the season, things may have been different. Remember, Cal, a team that didn't even make a bowl, held Oregon's offense in check. Auburn was very similar in points per game and total offense, and Oregon held their offense in check. The difference was that Auburn started wearing out Oregon on both lines. It has become a cliche, but the team speed all over the SEC is a difference maker. This doesn't mean just the skill positions, but overall speed. When you have D-linemen who are that big AND that fast, it gets hard to defend them.

Overall, I think the top two teams in the Pac-10 and SEC were fairly even. Top to bottom, though, I think the SEC was far better. Like I said before, MState won 8 games in the regular season, and we finished 5th in our own division! The 4 teams above us had a record of 45-8, and went 3-1 in bowl games, including two BCS wins and a thrashing of the Big 10 co-champs.

Schlabach's 2011 Top 25

Never too early to start planning for next year!

1. Oklahoma
2. Alabama
3. Oregon
4. LSU
5. Boise State

A little surprised to see Boise that high for next year
Not sure they will have the same team

8. Arkansas
With Mallett gone, I don't see Arkansas being that strong either

17. Auburn
Expectations are with Fairley (the Thug) gone, and Newton leaving early, they will drop off

18. TCU
Not sure about their returning starters, but that's quite a drop when Boise is still #5

22. Texas
Hmmmmmmm

23. Florida
Hmmmmmmm2

24. Mississippi State
Could be better than expected

Where are the Dawgs??
Actually, the Dawgs usually play better when there are no expectations :p

Interesting list.

I'm surprised to see TCU so low, same with Auburn.

Texas at #22 could break either way - on the one hand, Mack will have those guys whipped into better mental shape this fall, on the other hand, replacing so many coaches (including both coordinators) is bound to take its toll.

I'm not shocked and kinda expected a top 15-20'ish rating. TCU pretty much graduates EVERYONE this year and the next class of seniors has barely seen the field. That being said though our latest crop of incoming freshmen is getting a boost from this and last year's BCS games. Many 5 and 4 star recruits are reconsidering TCU now with the added exposure and forthcoming move to the Big East.

I think the East Dawgs are due for a rebound. Murray will be a much improved QB, and there is some talent there. I also don't think Richt has lost his touch. I think we can be ranked about there. We do lost all three starting LBs and an All-American LT, but other than that, most of our starters return. Texas and Florida are tough to predict with all the changes going on. I do think Arkansas and Auburn may be a bit high.

Hey steve, you should be excited about your new (Co-) Defensive Coordinator, Geoff Collins from Florida International. We played them at home early in the year and I was very impressed with how athletic they were, but also with how disciplined they were in their scheme. I don't think you guys will miss a beat.

I was a bit puzzled about this hire until I started reading about him. He really turned around that defense at FIU. He seems to be in the Manny Diaz mold. He is also supposed to be a pretty good recruiter. Hopefully, he learned well under Saban. :) I think it's a solid hire.

Edit: Well, I can tell the season is over. It's dead in here. :( Anyway, Stanford has hired offensive coordinator David Shaw as their new head coach.

Seems as though the Newtons just can't keep their word at anything
What a shock

Photo: Cecil Newton Attended The BCS Title Game

You can Google and find story after story about this now

Before Monday night’s BCS Championship Game in Arizona, Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs assured the media that Cecil Newton, father of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, would not be in attendance at the game.

But contrary to Jacobs’ claim, Newton was at the game and was photographed embracing his son after the Tigers defeated Oregon 22-19.
The picture was taken by OPELIKA-AUBURN NEWS photographer Vanda Hunt:

Prior to the father-son hug, Cam Newton was seen searching for his father in the stands.

Brett McMurphy of AOL FANHOUSE also got confirmation from Auburn player Ryan Pugh that the elder Newton was at the game:

Meanwhile over in the east stands, Newton waved up into the stands. He then climbed over the short wall and headed into the stands. He went past the “Eat More Duck” sign and continued a few rows until he found his father, Cecil. Cam — the Heisman Trophy winner — then celebrated with the man who the NCAA determined had shopped his son to Mississippi State for $180,000.

Auburn center Ryan Pugh, who was down on the field conducting interviews, glanced over and saw the Newton’s exchanging a bear hug.
“I wish I was up there with Cam and his dad,” Pugh said.

And there’s this from Thayer Evans of FOXSports.com and Pugh:

“Who’s knows what went on or what happened?” said Auburn center Ryan Pugh, who witnessed the embrace. “But at the end of the day, that’s Cam’s father.”Had Auburn AD Jacobs not mentioned Cecil Newton’s status for the game, father Newton’s attendance would not be newsworthy.

Now, with the indisputable disconnect between the Auburn athletic dept. and Cecil Newton, it isn’t unreasonable to wonder what else Auburn doesn’t know about.

Doesn't shock me at all with this lack of control with Auburn.

I hope that they are forced to forfeit the championship and the heisman personally. The whole debacle has made a laughing stock of the NCAA in conjunction with the baloney with the OSU situation as well
