Sadly not, largely probably because I decided to BTO my replacement for extra storage.. Which will mean that soon I'll have effectively been without laptop for three weeks.
I was told if it's a BTO MBP, you can keep your original one until your replacement delivered by the carrier.

That is probably normally the case, but they expressly wanted my laptop to investigate ASAP without delay and got it shipped off before new one was even ordered.. so as such, I will probably be without laptop for coming on three weeks! .. and I weill certainly be bringing up some discussion on making good this timespan.

why don't you just return that one and placed a new order, it won't take three weeks.

Because it was bought in an apple store in UK and I live in Finland, as stated earlier in thread, and rebuying from Finnish online store would cost 10%+ more. And for some reason BTO orders for UK store seem to be considerably longer than US or Finnish stores.

I exchanged my 2.6Ghz i7 for the 2.9Ghz i9 (all they had in stock with my RAM and SSD config) so will keep an eye on this and see if I get the same issue or not!
Did they made a commercial gesture for the i9 price? :)
That makes two counts of latest mojave fixing it.. and one of it breaking it, it seems?
Unfortunately, I have Mojave and this chime issue plus the KP issue. Already called Apple for the later and forgotten to tell them also about this issue. But they offered a replacement and let me keep my 2018 i7 2.6 15” MBP while the new one is produced and delivered.

Considering this topic, I guess I was right to accept the replacement since all the person who had their Mac replaced got a bug one so far.

I have a base model 2018 15" MacBook Pro, with the same issue. Apple support claimed no knowledge of this problem. I guess I will follow this thread to see what happens. It isn't hardware failure of the MacBook Pro, but the charging brick is a new design internally so who knows if that is the problem that requires a firmware update.

They also suggested SMC reset that will not work because it's impossible to touch any key without the machine starting up before you can perform the instructions....

How to reset the SMC on a Mac that has the Apple T2 chip

Follow these steps for Mac computers that have the Apple T2 chip:

  1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  2. After your Mac shuts down, press and hold its power button for 8 seconds.
  3. Release the power button, then wait a few seconds.
Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

  1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  2. After your Mac shuts down, press and hold the right Shift key, the left Option key, and the left Control key for 7 seconds. Then keep holding those keys while you press and hold the power button for another 7 seconds.
  3. Release all three keys and the power button, then wait a few seconds.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

The charging brick is only new design in the 13", 15" still has same charger.

And smc reset is exactly as described? Shut down Mac either via menu or power button force shutdown, wait till sure off, the hold the power button down till Apple logo has appeared and vanished. Though based on own experience I doubt this will do anything for now.

Whew! I haven't started using my shiny new MbP 18, 15" yet. I am afraid I may have this problem. I need to test this out soon... Will report if I have this issue. I have base model 15". No upgrades.

is there any update for how to resolve this chime issues?

I’ve found a solution that works for me!

I have a 15" 2.6 i7 MBP 2018 running most recent public Mojave. I’ve had this charging noise issue since the start. I’ve always thought it was something potentially to do with powernap. I’ve also had a few issues where I felt the screen hasn’t switched off when I closed and the laptop and it became hot so I’ve been seeking solutions online.

I’ve seen elsewhere others had similar problems and someone suggested typing into Terminal:

log show | grep ‘Wake reason’

After a few minutes this showed a long list of indecipherable blurb to me, which apparently shows why your MBP has awoke. I noticed that every so often Bluetooth was apparently waking my Mac. At the moment I have nothing BT connected so switched this off in system preferences.

So far I’ve had 12 hours silence. Switching off BT isn’t ideal, it may not be what’s causing this issue, but this is what’s worked for me today!

Thanks for Sharing that.

Following the suggestion of my Genius friend, installing the Mojave public beta solved the chime issues in both HS and Mojave.
However I now have the 61W power supply recognized as 389w. Only the top left port acts up. Rest of the ports are fine with the original usb-c cables and power adapter.

I have same issue, Only the top left port showing 432w instead of 86W (for 15). I already did SMC & PRAM reset, tried latest beta of Mojave and then did clean install for High Siera, then was on call with apple support but nothing helped. Tomorrow I am going to my local apple store, hopefully they will replace it.

So I didn't have the problem on my i9 replacement. I installed the latest Mojave beta but then went back to High Sierra and now I am getting the damn chime again! Ahhhhhhhhh.

This is my exact experience with my current 2018 (i9/32GB/2TB).

I initially did NOT have the chime with High Sierra. But I had sleep KP issue. I installed Mojave using the Apple recommended dual boot approach to see if that helped with the KP's.

Going back to High Sierra caused the chime to occur there and I have not been able to get rid of it there since then.

Interestingly, with the new public beta from a few days ago, the chime is much less frequent when booted into Mojave.

Still trying to arrange a replacement machine with my Apple Case support person.

This is my third replacement! I don't know if I have the patience to deal with it all again. I think I need to decide if I want to return this for a refund or just wait and hope Apple fix it with an update at some point.

I don't know what to do though :(

It's extremely unlikely this issue is hardware related, so replacing the whole laptop would therefore be completely wasteful. As we live on a planet with limited resources and battle stuff like rising temperatures, ocean levels and increasing pollution, we should do what we can to limit our resource footprint. That includes not replacing otherwise functioning pieces of high technology for willy nilly reasons.

If your replacement laptop also chimes (as has happened to some), then what...? Just wait for a bug fix alrighty.

I am considering to switch to 13 inch model. Do anyone experiencing same charging/chime issues on 13?

I seem to have had some success in eliminating the chime by going to the notifications system preferences panel and toggling the do not disturb setting for when the display is sleeping.

Shouldn't have to do this but this may lessen the annoyance factor. Screen Shot 2018-08-17 at 11.32.17 AM.png

In a week + a few days, I've had my 13" ding once while already plugged in. Couldn't determine why, so I'm interpreting as a freak, one-time occurrence. :p

You lucky if it's just once :D

totally different question what you feel about i7 vs i5? what's your work load and hows processor hanging up?

They are sending me a replacement. I asked for specifics from my logs, but the senior support person only said the engineer thought it may be hardware related. I don't think they are sure at this point? Hopefully once they get a few if it is software related they can push a fix.

Ill update if new one has issue...

I do not believe it is a hardware issue because I had a system that was perfectly fine for over a week then the moment I upgraded to the Mojave beta the problem started. Even going back to High Sierra and the problem is still present so I believe it is a firmware issue.

Thinking back to my first unit I cannot remember if I noticed the issue before I upgraded to the Mojave beta on that as I was not looking for such an issue. As I upgraded to Mojave the day after I got it it is very possible it was not an issue until I did that. If it is some kind of T2 firmware update with Mojave it is possible it does not revert to the previous firmware even when going back to High Sierra which is why the issue continues.

Of course it could be hardware but I find it very unlikely from my personal experience with the issue on two units.

Yeah, I am not going to install Mojave beta and see if I don't have it. I was guessing the same, but some others have it in this thread without Mojave I guess. If an engineer thinks its hardware directly from apple, then I'm not going to guess it with a $4,000 machine.
