Many users running iOS 14 beta are reporting that they are seeing a dialog box pop up repeatedly asking them to update from the latest iOS 14 beta.

Threads in our forums, Reddit, and Twitter are reporting the issue. The dialog has been appearing for a few days now, but as of tonight has started appearing more frequently, every time an iPhone is unlocked. There's been further discussion in our iOS 14.2 Beta 4 thread.

Previous betas have reportedly seen the same issue, according to postings in our forum.

Update: Some have mentioned that moving the iOS date back will prevent it from happening, though that has other consequences so we don't recommend it.

Like everyone has stated, I'm glad this is not just me. And it was so annoying. So hopefully with this issue being so widespread, there should a fix for this soon.

I'd expect a new beta today to get rid of this.

Seeing as there were people reporting the issue on Beta 2 and 3, I suspect it's server side, not a bug in Beta 4. Could be that the Update Server has responded to automatic update pings from our devices saying that public release is out and they want everyone off the beta. Once that flag is set on our devices, it notifies us, and the longer we go, the more often it nags us, thus why some of us had it only happening once/twice a day until last night. Also explains why it's happening to people on Beta 2/3, as well as iPhone 12 users on 14.1.

Therefore, any fix would be on Apple's end, not an update sent to us.

So let me get this straight. You volunteered to be a beta tester, where the whole point is to find and report bugs, and then when you hit a bug you get pissed off and want to bail on iPhones entirely. Did I get that right?
There is a difference between this and the sort of bugs beta testing is intended to uncover. This is not a bug in iOS per se, but is an issue with Apple's software delivery mechanism and unexpected expiration of a current build. It is completely reasonable to accept the risks and challenges of running beta software, but to still expect Apple to at least manage delivery of the software appropriately. Apples and oranges.

I highly recommend against this. Having the wrong system date set is likely to break things. Photos you take will have the wrong date. E-mails you send may be marked with the wrong date, and so on.

A lot of things these days depend on the system clock being correct, and there's no way to know the extent of what may be broken when you do this.

Better to just live with the pop-up for a bit; I'm sure there will be an update today to fix it.
Good point

i agree. with Apple One launching, it makes sense

Apple One doesn't need an iOS update, it's available on my device running 14.1, as well as the ones running the 14.2 beta....

but is an issue with Apple's software delivery mechanism
i.e. a bug. I don’t have this “issue” running my non-beta software.

The real issue here is that people want to play with software early without any annoying consequences. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Apple doesn’t have an annoyance-free beta testing program. Rather than admitting it, people are bellyaching that Apple has the gall to annoy them.

I am in the process of downgrading to 14.1. Of course, restoring from back up only allows backing up from the same OS version so 9/7 was my newest allowable backup. :(

And of course, it added the beta profile back in even though I removed it.

If you read the thread, there are people on iPhone 12's, running stock 14.1 that have the issue, so it's not restricted to Beta though.

It’s 1PM eastern, and no fix. This’ll be a fun weekend
I thought the same thing, was crossing my fingers for a 1:00 update. For me, it is literally every time I touch my phone. It's going to be a loooooong weekend of this. Guess this is what we sign up for.

By far the worst iOS version for me. Nothing but problems since August beta and continued to have multiple new major problems since. I know it's beta but still, at this point it should be running better. I have apps literally crashing my phone and restarting it every time. This annoying pop up.

I would ditch the beta program profile now, but I need the beta fix. Then I will delete it and let the next official release over write it. I don't mind bugs, but this one is annoying and in my opinion, very avoidable. Lack of quality control. They had this issue before, I would think the code would permanently fixed.

big pain in the ass, started doing this to me early this morning, i have connected to itunes and it says i'm updated at 14.2 yet I still get this message and it keeps popping up every few seconds of using my phone. I have also tried a full reset and restoring the phone in addition to deleting the beta profile with no success.

If you read this thread, you could have saved time and effort, as doing all that was never going to stop it happening. Either live with it until it's fixed, or go back to 14.1

We've seen betas as late as 4pm so don't give up hope yet.

I removed the beta, but if I don't put it back on, I lose all my Apple Watch progress back to pre-beta of 9/7. Ugh.

The fact that people have reported that it's happening on beta 2/3 and that it's happening to people on an iPhone 12 with stock 14.1, means that it has to be a server side issue, so therefore the fix will be their side, not our side.

I removed the beta file. Is this going to be an issue when they fix this problem?
Removing the profile won't make a difference to the issue happening. If it does require a fix to be updated on our end, not having the profile means you might not get that update.
