I would have never thought that many people were waiting on these.

I'm honestly shocked that anyone at all waited in line for these. iPhones, sure. But AirPods? I might check them out once the hoopla has died down since I'm in the market for a decent pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones.

Thanks. I was incapable of empathising with other peoples decisions but your obnoxious condescension has really opened my eyes.

I'm entitled to my point of view. That's all. If other people think they're incredible and worth the money, then that's great for them. I hope they really enjoy them. Sure they're a neat little package with the charging storage, and the auto pairing is a nice idea. I just can't fathom queueing for them. That's all.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to consider existing bluetooth headphones 'archaic' just because the automation of pairing. Especially when other 'archaic' bluetooth headphones have things like volume controls. It's classic Apple though - evolving and simplifying a piece of technology. I don't think it's the quantum leap that some people feel they are though.

Ok, how about instead of archaic we call it a terrible experience?

I've been using bluetooth headsets for over a decade. For the past 5 years I've been using some combination of bluetooth buds as the ONLY headphones with my iPhone.

Two things make the AirPods quite "a new thing":

1) W1 and seamless pairing to all devices - I use a combination of 2 different headsets (single bud and stereo buds) with a Watch, iPhone, iPad and Mac. And switching between devices is an absolutely terrible and annoying experience.

2) Fully wireless buds. These are quite new (very few others on the market, and the ones that are on the market are more expensive and lack the W1). I absolutely cannot wait to have zero wires when using these (as I suspect many people are).

Bought them, more of an impulse buy, since I was considering a pair of wireless stereo headphones anyways. Let's see what these fancy doo-dads can do. Apple said delivery Wednesday, Fedex said Tuesday, now its on truck for delivery today.
Yesss. Mine just arrived. Same deal as yours: 2 days earlier than promised. :D

Their charge was down at 11% for one, 17% for the other and 72% for the case. (The case is tiny, BTW. Super portable)

Seems people have forgotten that this is one of the few moments that being "locked" in the Apple Ecosystem pays off. With the EarPods, you can seamlessly transition between Mac, iPhone and iPad, so I'm very much looking forward to being able to do that without typical BT re-synching mess and hassle.

too easy to lose

Yeah, so is that pesky small metal thing I have to put in my car to go to work... and that little slim piece of plastic to buy stiff with... and that little piece of metal and glass that lets me call people and text... and those things with wires used to stick in my ears before AirPods.... and... and...

point: careless/irresponsible people will lose anything.

I'll help you with possible reasons
I don't get why people would not only pay the price asked for these
They can afford it?
Never owned a Bluetooth headset and want to give Apple a try, since they own iOS devices?
but also queue for them ?!
Missed online ordering?
Ordered on line and will not receive before end or year?
Holiday gift?

Hope that helps.

My local Apple Store had 11 units and sold out within 4 minutes after opening. I got there literally right after they sold out.

Apple sure did F up this launch. Orders are 6 weeks out online. Announce a product and wont be available for some until 6 months later......ridiculous.

While waiting for them like crazy I can't help but wonder - Will I be able to use them during a flight?
Or I need to go back to wired earbuds?

Wear them anyway, until someone says otherwise. We KNOW it doesn't' interfere with anything because we have wifi on lots of planes now operating in the same (and with much more power) frequency range, so there's no reason not to use them.

Might put them under the tree when they arrive later.

Only a few days until Christmas.

I do love doing these sort of pretend presents for ourselves, I've put a few things away until the arbitrary day (mainly cos I haven't got time to use them at the minute anyway!)

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. But I think your comment was not just a simple opinion about the product itself, it was more aimed to people buying these things (or queuing for them) I did not had to as managed to get the last pair in Manchester Apple store easy, but many people have been anticipating these and they don't want to wait few more weeks to buy them. Some people used to stay up all night to get their hands on a play-station which I have never had any interest but I still totally understand why they do it and I am totally fine and happy they are happy to buy something they like.

I think the main problem with current BT headphones is pairing. I have a pair of Jaybird X3's and they are nice, but I only use them with my iPhone because swapping them to an iPad or Mac is a pain and usually involves having both devices at hand (so swapping back from an iPad to my iPhone is the bigger pain.) The W1 chip solves this, at least for Mac/iOS users.

The other issue is typically range - I was considering the Bragi Dash, but people consistently complain about the bluetooth connection dropping in and out. For me that is unacceptable, so I would never buy those. It seems Apple has this solved, at least from the early reviews.

For me I want these as a general purpose headphone, to replace my pair of wired EarPods that I keep in my bag for use on teleconferencing, phone calls, and general audio (not specifically music listening.) Being able to use only one bud is the perfect use case for me, as well as being able to quickly swap between my Mac and iPhone when needed.

Because they want them? I don't understand why people feel the need to comment in this thread and every other AirPod thread when they have no intentions to buy them either.

You covered every one of my reasons! Some people just live in the bubble that is their own head

You missed my main reason, though: I just think they're darn cool. To each their own.

This is literally never going to happen. There's a video of a guy running for an hour with AirPods, and they did not move at all.
Yes of course, everyone's ears are shaped exactly the same...

Can we please move on to more important Apple news, maybe a story about new watch bands?
