Am I crazy for wanting to return my X for a Plus?

Personally, yes I think you're crazy, but it's your choice and obviously do what you think is best for you. I love the X and could never go back to my 7 Plus.

Do what you gotta do.

I'd be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind, but I think I'll be keeping my X.

I'd update to 11.2 and see if it helps. Unless you already are. I am not having any battery issues.

Congrats. You win the award for the dumbest thing I’ve read on the internet so far this week. I know it’s early, but I doubt anything else will top it.

People are “inconsiderate” for spending THEIR money on a device that everyone had equal access to? Sounds like you’re just mad that you preordered too late. Next time be on the ball and order right away, okay champ?

Yes OP, you are crazy. Crazy for looking to a forum to tell you what to do for best. Do your own thing and stop worrying about what others think. If you prefer walking around with a tablet in your pocket, go for a plus.

Reasons for return:

• I did not care for how the information is presented at the top of the screen (status icons). Almost looked preschool-ish.

• Thought the narrowness wouldn’t bother me, but after a few hours with each phone next to each other, it did.

• The brightness of my 7+ exceeded the X. Furthermore, I did not care for the yellow screen on the X (yes I did turn off the Trutone feature or whatever it’s called).

• Did not at all like the swipe down from top-right to access control center. I have to use two hands to do that. With my 7+, I can access the control center with one hand.

• Do not like the cropping that takes place when watching videos.

• Most of the apps that I use are not optimized yet for the X. I do not have the patience to wait for the developers to fix this issue at the moment.

• Face-id seemed to be much slower than I anticipated. However, it did work almost every time.

• I wasn’t, at all, impressed with the OLED display aside from the black levels.

I will say that I absolutely loved the silver color and stainless steel. Oh well, saved some money and hopefully next year I will get excited for more than 30 minutes with my new Apple device.

None of which is a problem with the phone per se, just you as a picky user wanting to save money, yet you rock a 7+ so counter your argument right there.
 
Considering in swapping my X for an 8 Plus. I would like to get the SIM free option but do you think that would do more harm than good? Should I opt for the AT&T version to avoid activation issues? I should be able to just swap my SIM from my X to the 8 Plus no? Or would I have to leave the SIM in the X when I return it?

They did take an 8 and just remove the top and bottom bezels. Since removing the bezels does not make the phone wider, the screen just becomes taller. I think many here assume that a hypothetical "X Plus" would be wider like the 8+ was, but this is not the case on the S8/S8+. Phones with the X aspect ratio just get taller as they get bigger, without getting substantially wider.

Not accurate.

The X is slightly wider than the 4.7” model. It’s not just a taller display. It’s not a huge difference but it is wider.
 
Returning my X today and keeping my 7+.

I admit the X is nice, it's beautiful, I like FaceID, but I just don't like the feeling of it in my hand or everything being "squished" because its narrower.

Still love my 7+ and at least next year once paid off with AT&T it will be mine that I can either re-sell or even keep without an additional monthly payment if Apple doesn't release anything better or bigger. I don't feel the least bit disappointed about keeping my 7.

Not noticeably, which is what I am referring to. According to Mashable, they both have 375 units of width, and

"Second, when used in portrait orientation, the width of the display on iPhone X matches the width of the 4.7in display of the iPhone 8. So it’s taller, but not wider. In other words, the iPhone X has a different aspect ratio to the iPhone 8. The iPhone X aspect ratio is something like 19:9 where the iPhone 8 is 16:9. It's a longer screen, but that's all. "

The “375 units” is an interface metric, not a literal physical measurement. Common mistake.

The saying that Android apps have always been inferior to iOS has always been a myth. Dasher, SwiftKey, and Viber are all superior on Android.

On iOS peeps use WhatsApp. Viber is legitimately terrible on iOS. I cant speak to the Android version of it. The apps most people use yes the iOS versions tend to be vastly superior.

you do you. I'm considering giving back my X and going back to 7 Plus. Maybe 8 Plus if i can get a good deal on Swappa, and save me $400 over the X. It's definitely a nice phone and feels great. But real world Face ID use is not as fast as Touch ID for myself. The screen is also way too bright for me at night. Anyone else notice that?

Not crazy at all. My X is coming today, i will see how I like it compared to my 7 +. If I feel like I cant take the display area then I will return it.

I actually thought the display on the X is overall darker.

you do know you can use the Zoom to low brightness to make it even less bright don't you
 
I must admit...I was a naysayer. I bought the iPhone Plus on launch day because I felt the X wasn't a big enough leap. Playing with it in person quickly changed my mind. So, I gave the 8 Plus to my son and I bought the X. I don't think you are crazy to go to the X, it is personal prefrence. Don't look to others to make your choice for you...you know what you like and what you need, so if the 8 plus fills the bill for you better than the X, then go for it.

6s owner here, I much prefer the size of the X. Less bezel more screen, not much bigger than a 6s footprint wise. I have fairly large hands but I can't stand large phones, the X feels so good in my hands. My only gripe is TouchID, I would rather have some form of TouchID (like the early render mock ups we all were hoping were 100% accurate). Not a huge fan of relying on FaceID to unlock a phone... but... "courage" wins.
