I love this! This is just a beginning of how flawed whole its-all-about-apps philosophy is. Google don't want to develop for Windows, Apple don't want iMessage cross platform and crap like that. Perfect! Its perfect because those who loose are just consumers and consumers made this possible.

They only reason I purchased Apple products from Amazon is because I used to get a sales tax break. That's no longer the case.

I'd love to see a Prime Video app on the Apple TV. I wonder what the real reason is why that's not happening.

If Amazon wanted to get Apple's attention they stop selling ALL Apple products.

cant blame em...does apple sell androids?

No, but Apple doesn't sell bicycles, laundry detergent, all brands of cell phones, granola bars or live ladybugs (seriously! go here).

Amazon is choosing not to sell the competition, which I'm fine with, just say so don't get into the denial zone.

Amazon says they are from A to Z while Apple is just A or i (and sometimes B).

I'd really, really like an Amazon streaming app. I love my current Apple TV, but probably won't invest in anything ew that won't stream Amazon content. I guess I can just Airplay it from my phone or iPad. It's just dumb not to make an app for the TV.

Apple makes money on the hardware. Amazon loses money on the hardware. That is probably why.

Bingo, to make Prime video work in addition to the other Prime benefits, Amazon needs to be able to sell while people watch videos. I think it's a solid bet that Amazon and Apple are in a fight over the 30% Apple wants for all sales though the Apple TV. Either party might be right depending on your point of view, but they haven't been able to settle their disagreement and this is a natural extension of it.

As for why there's an iPhone app, they probably made it a while back when they first were putting out Prime video and just wanted everyone they could to get it. It's a tougher thing to tell customers that they're losing access rather than not adding it.

Meh. I've only purchased two Apple hardware products from Amazon anyway, 2 OG iPad Air's. And ever since my store card dinged me for interest on that purchase, even after I'd returned one and paid off the other, I swore never again.

Bad decision or not - I had planned on purchasing my Apple TV directly from Apple. I love Prime Video, but I can stream that from my smart TV or PS4. No big deal, for me.

This is abusive. Amazon will lose a lot of very loyal Apple customers as a result of this. I know I'll never buy another thing from Amazon now they've decided to try and hurt sales of the Apple TV. I hope hundreds of millions of other people take a similar stand.

I'll continue to shop from Amazon, local brick and mortar stores and Apple. The reality is that Amazon is in competition with Apple for video and music. Apple is damn slow to allow flexibility with the ATV. They use it as a front end for iTunes and that is its real function. Now that the market is larger and there is REAL competition, it makes sense that Amazon would cut off Apple's vehicle to Apple's media given that ATV doesn't do Amazon's video services or music. Sorry if that offends your fanboi sensibilities but I prefer to buy what works best for my* needs and learned over the years not to be loyal to any of these makers who really don't give a d*mn about their customer base. Apple has changed over the years and are above all, about market share and profits. I don't criticize them for this as they do have very strong competition.

Meanwhile, I'll have a tasty refreshing beverage as I bring up Netflix streaming on my Nvidia Shield TV.

And it has been a slow revolution so far

Anyone but a fanatic would call it a FAILURE thus far, business wise. ;)

So how is Amazons low level compiler? Are they able to recompile bytecode in submitted apps from last year for custome designed ARM chips, which won't be available until next year?

WTF are you talking about? WTF does that have to do with ANYTHING? Are they able to compile for a CPU that doesn't exist yet? Well damn! THAT is why FireTV sucks!

Because that is some of the innovation coming to iOS 9 and subsequently to tvOS 2. How do you think Amazon can lead in the mobile OS era, without an successful mobile phone?

Um...uh...gee, I thought we were talking about AppleTV not the iPhone. When did the topic change to mobile and phones???

4K is a specification, not a system, not a service, not a product.

Yeah, and the new $99 FireTV has it and the $200 AppleTV does NOT. WTF is your point???

We had the exact same thing with Android phones, which had bigger screens and higher mega pixel cameras than the iPhone.

Yes and the last time I checked, Android controls about 80% of the mobile phone market and Apple less than 20%. Profit <> market control. Apple failed to learn that in the 1980s and 1990s when they went for expensive Macs versus Microsoft selling Windows and Dos to anyone and everyone. Short term gave Apple high priced sales. Long term almost put Apple out of business. Now history will repeat itself because Apple learned nothing from its own past. Market share is important in the long run and Apple has been losing market share every since Android came out.

While being the most profitable company on earth and in history

You should look into history some more before you make such sweeping emotionally charged comments.

Most profitable companies in all of history adjusted for inflation (circa 2012, but Apple's value hasn't gone up THAT much since then to break the Top 5).

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/photos...-adjusted-for-inflation-1351801906-slideshow/

Not even in this list's Top 10 in 2014:
http://www.therichest.com/business/companies-business/the-10-richest-corporations-on-earth/

The top companies are valued in the TRILLIONS, not billions.

they've been accused of playing catch-up with the competition

It's a well known FACT they have on both iOS and the Mac lately.

. When in fact they developed Touch ID and 3D Touch. Can you imagine to buy TV shows with your fingerprint? Apple has the technology in house to advance whenever it sees fit.

Apple did not invent the fingerprint scanner or anything else your imagination running wild seems to believe without actually looking into first.

Amazon better prove that the Apple TV and the new Google Chromecast results in a "lesser" video streaming experience or they could face scrutiny from the FTC and Department of Justice Antitrust Division for favoring one type of product in a way that violates the Sherman and/or Clayton Antitrust Acts.

Is Netflix allowed on the new AppleTV? How about HBO? Showtime? Hulu? NBA League Pass? MLB Extra Innings? YouTube? USA?

No different than Prime video. Amazon is just pissy because it doesn't want to share revenue with Apple like all other platforms/content providers do when they enter the Apple eco-system.

An Amazon Prime app only has to pay Apple IF they sell the service though the app, if people continue to pay through web site (no linking allowed) Apple gets nothing and Amazon keeps it all (right?).

The same would go for an Amazon not-Prime video account. As long as Apple doesn't collect the money and Amazon collects it on it's own, Amazon keeps it.

That's pretty much how the Kindle App works on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Mac OS X app from the store (if you download the app for Mac OS X directly from Amazon it does have a shop button [which just takes you to the web, but that button isn't in the Mac App Store).

Gary

FYI, the Mac OS X version doest access "documents" that you upload (which could be books you got elsewhere) which I don't understand since you can on all the other app versions; you can't conveniently get them and the pages don't sync either...

I have an iPhone, iPad, PC, Samsung Smart TV AND a PS4 to access Amazon Instant Video. I'll be obviously fine if I EVER get an ATV.

But one thing for sure, I'll never buy an Apple TV if it doesn't have Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Plex. Kodi maybe as well.

I'll bet there are more people who won't buy an Apple TV because it doesn't support their Amazon Prime subscription services then there are people who's feelings are hurt due to something that has nothing to do with them. Hundreds of millions of people won't take a similar stand, because it's a retarded stand to take.

Wow - Amazon is making a big mistake.. if you don't want to be part of the TV revolution then you will be left behind. The new Apple TV will usher in a new era of TV that will make all other streaming devices obsolete.

Seriously, do you really think so or are you just being sarcastic? IMHO the new Apple TV won't really change anything. Its nice streaming box but still, its just another streaming box.

This is really disappointing to me as an Amazon customer. I have Prime and I use it all the time for the fast and cheap delivery. I couldn't give a s*** about their video or music services I just want a store that sells everything with reasonable delivery prices and Amazon is that for me.

If they're going to start picking and choosing what can be listed based on how it affects their video and music services I'm likely to shop elsewhere and not just for those devices.

Amazon should have stuck to just shipping items from warehouses, their site just gets more and more confusing every redesign as they pack it full of more streaming bs.

Just one customer's thoughts.

Irrelevant comparison. Apple sells a few hundred different items. Amazon is a mega-marketplace selling virtually everything. In some cases it just provides a virtual storefront for thousands of small retailers. If it is truly banning these products from "Marketplace", there's grounds for anti-trust action.

What are those grounds?

Antitrust investigation is on the way. It's a store.

What is up with people bandying antitrust in this thread? Please enlighten me as to what antitrust law is being violated here. Some magical law that a store that sells some things must sell others? I must have slept through that day of antitrust law....

I'm more concerned about the possibility here that the all in one cross app searching box we all hoped the ATV4 would be won't be that at all. Studios have largely dumped iTunes digital copy so accessing UV through VUDU or some other app is critical to the all in one solution going forward. If Apple is going to wall them off, the App Store is useless as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, but not buying the "Amazon won't make an app" notion. I think there have been negotiations to get an Amazon app on ATV4 and something went wrong. It makes about zero sense for Amazon to do this. Prime is really no different form Netflix when it comes to media. You pay a fee, you get access to a bunch of movies. I get that you can buy from Amazon, but that never stopped app development for mobile devices. What stopped this and why?

I would never buy an Apple product from Amazon.
I have.

The discounts have been terrific and the product comes in the same sealed box that it arrives in if I order from Apple.

Seems silly to pay full price when one can save money.

But I do understand that some devotees care more about Apples financials than their own. Examples are everywhere in this forum.
