My LG is perfect and amazing. Makes using the computer a pleasure, biggest leap since solid state drives. :)

LG panel here. LP154WT1-SJA1 screen. Build 1054 of week 23 (June). 2.6 Core i7, 8 gb Ram, 512 SSD.

No problems whatsoever. Beautiful, stunning display. White point good and not a hint of IR.

I am running the latest version of ML. I have had the unit for 51 days.

Received my MacBook Pro Retina this past Monday. I was so paranoid getting my first Mac with TERRIBLE display like so many people here complained about.

Once I got it I checked the manufacturer of the display.

It is an LG. HOWEVER, It's perfect!

No ghosting, yellow tint, brightness is perfect as well. in fact, the default setting hurt my eyes so I lowered it. i read here that the Retinas were dimmer than the Classic MacBook Pros. Not on my machine!

brightness

How can one "test" the brightness. I have a 2.6/16/256 that seems to NOT have the ghosting or IR issues, but the brightness does not seem to be as bright as my previous machines, 2008 MBP and macbook air. I'm having to pretty much put it at full to have the right amount of light and contrast in a normally lit room. If I drop it down say 2-3 clicks from full (which is probably what is necessary to save some battery) it seems a bit muddied from the reduced brightness.

I'm leaning towards returning this one at the moment, but having NO dead pixels and having what appears to be a near perfect machine seems, unfortunately, too good to send back. Stupid process!

Perfect after 2.3 months. Purchased in June. I believe that's the first batch.

No light bleeding, no dead pixels. No noticeable image retention.

Base retina here w LG display. I couldn't be more happy with it. No dead pixels or color problems.

Do not see the need to test for image retention. If it shows up in every day kind of use then so be it, I will find out then.

Many of us are experiencing image retention problems. A unified test for image retention allows to:
  • Track the problem during time, since the level of retention seems to increase as time passes;
  • Compare the entity of the problem with other users, in order to realize the defect entity and decide to swap or not the unit, evaluating the probability to receive a macbook with a better display.

I'm having this issue as well. Is this the norm?

Flawless is a high bar :)

My LG screen is major defect free :)

(no IR, no ghosting, no heavy yellow tint, no light leakage, uniform, etc)

It seems LG screens are more prone to major defects BUT I'm slowly being convinced that if you put a good LG next to a good Samsung that the LG will come out on top for overall image quality in all areas that matter.

I leave mine a cpl clicks from full brightness. All the way is too bright. I didnt realize it had auto brightness until today. I was puzzled why the setting was changing...

Perfect LG screen here. I did all checks:
- IR test from other thread
- 0 bad pixels
- no ghosting, great blacks (some says LG is better here than Samsung)
- no yellow tint that would be noticeable

LG production week: 33

Zero issue here as well
Week production: 35

But I have a little rubber issue, which i might not get a replacement.. I'm afraid in getting a bad replacement

I just got to spend some time with a LG screen that had a white point very close to my rMBP Samsung display and no other issues people have been complaining about. My impression was the the LG had better color saturation and blacks. I felt the image had more "depth", my Samsung looks a little flat in comparison. Now this is all subjective, but I'm extremely critical of displays ( I have many displays to compare with, IPS, SPVA ) all which have pros and cons. My point is people are going to like what they like, but if you get a good LG I feel it's really an awesome display, and after comparing the 2 displays and if had to replace mine, I would be happy with either ( providing no ghosting, yellow tinting, dead pixels and all other issues people have been reporting :) ). Last opinion, since I do alot of reading and coding I think the Samsung is more relevant for my use, but I would rather have the LG for color, imaging, etc, graphics work. I don't think people should be giving Apple a hard time for using both vendors since both displays when properly functioning are both awesome just a little different. I'm sure issues posted on these forums were not part of their specification for the display. I'm just constantly blown away by these displays. I thank Apple so much for pushing the envelope.

Just my 2 cents.

I have an LG Display, with minor Image Retention issues (they appear if I leave certain windows open for a certain period of time).

This is the same impression I got comparing my LG to an Apple Store's Samsung rMBP set to the same material and max brightness. The LG just looked better (I calibrated the Samsung same way I did the LG).

On a side note, in a crowded Apple Store, here I am taking my machine out doing an A/B test with videos, webpages, images, etc. The Apple Staff came over and said "Doing some comparisons?" :) I said yes and he said let me know if you need any help and went away. To me, that was great customer service.

LG - defective

Hey guys, I have something even better wrong with my LG unit. Just got it yesterday and look what I found on it! :D It's being shipped back tomorrow...

Some sort of testing text is burnt into it, visible on dark grey background with full backlight. Also throughout the system at some points.

IR issue was there too and I also have right top corner tinted purple and left one green. Full black, full backlight.
