Ofcourse, as you know, Apple is doomed to hell and beyond for this innovation-less minor update.

You may think it is an "innovation-less minor update" but why you would say they are doomed to hell, I have no idea. Even if you forget the iphone they still have a viable tablet, ipod & computer line.

So there was never any numbers released by Samsung nor carriers in regards to actual pre-orders?

Nope.

Then it is safe to say Apple wins this argument, simply because carriers could have ordered 9 million but never presold all of them and the lack of sending out a press release on preorders means we cannot not account for what we cannot see.

The S3 wasn't estimated to reach 10 million in sales until late July. Two months after release.

Yes. LTE, Better camera, better CPU/GPU, Thinner, Lighter, Larger screen, Better battery (yet to be seen).

I purchased an iPhone 5 32gig, cost just over $600 ($299 + $250 + $50 in taxes, yes sucks to live in Kansas haha) I would pay the $299 to upgrade no problem, the rest will be easily made up for when I sell my 4S 16gig. If they would have let me I would have paid full price to not be on contract, but yes, the iPhone 5 imo is the best iPhone yet. 4S was incremental bump, as is adding the technology they have in the 5 with custom CPU's, the change to the glass and digitizer, adding LTE and iOS 6 is going to be a very nice upgrade.

Let's face facts, anything done with smartphones is incremental at this point. They are going to be faster, better battery life (hopefully) change the screen size and tweak/upgrade the OS. Sure Apple puts on a show about how it's a huge revolution etc... and the haters downplay the engineering of it. If you want some wow factor find someone with the Driod Razr, that phone is crazy thin imo. Well it's also 8.6mm vs the iPhone 5 is now 7.6mm and packs what could be the fastest hardware in a smartphone to date. Pretty impressive imo.

Exact situation as you. I upgraded to a 32gb iPhone 5 despite not being eligible. There were just too many upgrades to pass up on. And I also had to pay full $64 sales tax on the unsubsidized phone price!
But having sold my 4S today, it will not cost me too much out of my pocket in th end. Very much worth it.

I ordered at 0530 EST and am an October 5 baby. I can't tell if this is optimistic I may get it Friday still, or dooms me to my fate.

So many iPhones, but none for me?

My iPhone 4 has been acting shady lately (Apple conspiracy suspected), with text messaging app running very slowly and other funky things. So, I was looking forward to the change. But, now I have to wait until Oct 5th? I guess I could stand in line at Best Buy, but that just looks pathetic. :(

And I dare say there were a few things Apple could have addressed in iOS 6 and iPhone 5 -- ability to "hard" close an app from its main screen, ability to close all background apps at once, camera that takes multi-pics at once to capture moving subjects, the ability to switch between home screens on the fly and finally, being able to see seconds on the clock should be a no-brainer.

Having said that, I still look forward to the new HW and SW changes. Apple simply has a more complete and reliable ecosystem than other players right now.

Seriously, explain.

If you're well versed on this, teach instead of "..."

I put ... because I was quoting myself from a reply to a similar question.

My point was that people were claiming Apple was holding back supply in order to make it seem like the iPhone was selling by claiming they were blown away by pre-orders. With these numbers getting released, now we know how clearly untrue that is.

Nope.

To me, if Apple is transparent with their numbers and Samsung isn't then I can't see anyone making any comparison between the two.

If the guy on top of the hill yells I sold 2 million and no one else says I sold X million more than that, then that makes the guy yelling 2 million the winner imo.

Apple gets way better press by releasing their numbers then running childish comparison ads, that actually bring their competitors to light, instead of banish them. Apple's PR seems to know what their doing.

2 million people are just going with the stream.

Apple is not a "niche"/"we do it different" brand anymore.

Apple are given people what they want - just to make money (and thats ok - and good for the investers!). I think instead they should be more innovative and keep on designing things that surprises me. Keep on giving me things that are more "nice to have" than "need to have" because of aesthetic reasons.

The new ipod linie is a step back (maybe 2 gens.) if you look a the design - where is my very loved click-wheel? The Iphone is just more of the same.

Apple is a huge succes, no doubt! But for my money I want to be surprised and design-overwhelmed rather than getting the (maybe) best performing product. I guess its just not a brand for me anymore..
Bye bye.

I think you might want to re-read his post. It was sarcasm. At least that's how I read it.

Sounds like the Samsung S3 is the best Android phone around. I have no idea why they haven't upgraded to Android 4.1 though. That is just stupid of Samsung for holding back.

iPhone users that want the latest iPhone and iOS will never switch to a phone that isn't bleeding edge with their OS.

Thank you for the clarification sir. :)

So here is a projection:

The S3 debuted on 100 carriers and sold 9 mill. This means each carrier presold 90,000 each.

Apple debuted the 5 on 18 carriers and so far has presold 2 mill, which is 111,111 each.

If the projections hold true, when Apple debuts the 5 on all 100 carriers as Samsung has, they will have presold 11.1 million when each carrier begins taking presales.

No, the 90,000 per carrier was how many the carriers ordered in the hope of selling them to customers over the next months. It is a totally different number. Not a single phone was sold to customers at this point. Apple's two million pre-orders are actual customers ordering the phones.

This is not a relevant comparison. Sprint alone ordered 30+ million iPhones last October.

Careful, or the Fandroids will sue you for hurt feelings.

Actually it was just sarcasm. That's what the Fandroids keep saying.

what a shame .. if only theyd made it 4G compatible for the UK ... until then ... the wait continues :-( As does my iPhone 4.0 in me jacket pocket!

I believe it will be compatible with Everything Everywhere in the UK, along with DT in Germany. Most of the rest of the EU uses different bands. It wouldn't surprise me if those bands are added in the 5S next year once those networks are more developed. If there's a big enough demand, we could see a special version of the iPhone 5 (as we did with the Verizon iPhone 4 in 2010). For instance, if Apple inks a deal with China Mobile, which requires them to come out with a new design, then maybe Apple would take the opportunity to add EU 4G support at the same time.
