Everybody's different, and photography/videography is very much subjective, but the majority would give the edge to the Pixel 2 on still image photography. Google has done a phenomenal job with software image processing. As for the other things, they are very well documented around this forum and other sites. If you have case, sure, your phone probably won't have those problems.
Yes, it's subjective, but the noise is not. The Pixel 2 also has some jarring while taking video. It doesn't end up in the final video, but the lag is a bit annoying. I will say that the software video stabilization is definitely better than the X. And as far as that "blur" effect ... Google wins with their algorithms. I think the Pixel 3 is really going to shine in the camera department if they keep going the way they are. Hopefully the Pixel 3 has 4K 60 FPS. I honestly really like the Pixel 2 and it's the first Android phone I've truly enjoyed using.

The X is a failure only selling 25M units! Do the math - using rounded numbers to make calculations easier:

25M units at $1000 each is $25B!!
Profit at 40% say: $10B pa

Are you seriously telling me a business is going to pull a product generating $10B profit pa!!!!

The entry 64GB Pixel 2 XL is $849, so $150 less. I got mine for $75 off on the Google Store during December, so I paid $215 less.

Also, consumers were not asking for Face ID. Right or wrong, Apple did what they thought they needed to do and slapped a premium price tag on it.

And consumers were not asking for a music player with a hard disk inside, a smartphone with a non-mechanical keyboard, an iPhone with TouchID, or AirPods for that matter. Yet Apple developed them.

I had a Pixel 2 and I can safely say I much prefer the pictures and video my X takes than my Pixel did. As for your comments about scratching, flaking, and fragility ... I've experienced none of that. The Pixel 2 had a lot more noise in the images ... and although the Visual Core update in Android 8.1 helped reduce the noise, it's still noticeably more than the X. Having said that, the Pixel 2 is a wonderful phone, but I ultimately chose to go with the X.

From this comparison https://www.cnet.com/news/iphone-x-vs-pixel-2-which-camera-is-better/

the Pixel 2 still pictures in some scenarios were "better" than the X. However, like anything both these phones have wonderful cameras, its darn close and varies depending on the shot.

Only in 3 of their global markets, 8 outsold the X in the others. Of course he’s going to spin it. Why would they be cutting production, to make it more exclusive?! LOL.

Because they always do after the Christmas quarter?

Additionally there are rumors that they won't carry last year's iPhone at a lower price like they usually do. They will most likely want to sell you a brand new X (2) for full price rather than X at a discount.

Actually Q1'18 iPhone unit sales accelerated vs last Q1'17 due to 14 weeks vs 13 weeks
That is correct. I was really pumping the unit sales this quarter. I got a little too bullish. I knew the 13 week quarter would be a hard compare, but I really expected them to do over 80M iPhones easily.

I will trade 3m unit sales for an $800 ASP though. In analyzing the quarter more, I am very happy as an investor.

Fair enough. The only difference is three of those were new product categories for Apple that people didn't have ten years of experience comfortably using, and Touch ID did not bring a higher price tag.

Oh for gods sake. These rumors weren’t talking about the change quarter over quarter. Everybody knows The March quarter is always way down from the December (holiday) quarter. These rumors specifically said Apple planned for 40M X units and halved them to 20M. But last year total iPhone sales were only 50M. Nobody with a functioning brain thinks X would be 90% of sales.

I made no inferences toward the X being 90% of sales.

It’s definitely better in some situations. There’s pros and cons for both. When the Pixel gets 4K 60 FPS video it’s going to be pretty awesome. Hopefully the Pixel 3 has a 256 GB option.

But this statement from Tim Cook that "iPhone X was our best selling device" doesn't really validate how successful the phone is vs their forecast for it. I work for the worlds #1 playground manufacturer, and while it's of course a completely different industry, when we don't hit our forecasted numbers we still manage to put a positive spin on the earnings reports. It's just the nature of business.

Well he did say "iPhone X surpassed our expectations" so that at least implies it did well versus expectations. I mean overall sales contracted only by 1 million units Year on Year even with three models for sale compared to the usual two and the iPhone X was available for a shorter period of time than the other two.

Number of iPhone sold fell from last year. But yeah they're squeezing out higher profits and wall street is happy.

And efficient codecs like HEIF ... unless the Pixel does already?

This is spin. The expectations were high on their last earnings call. The number of iPhones sold from last year dropped; they did not expect this 3 months ago. Apple could have revised their 'expectations' within the last 72 hours and would not be wrong by saying "it did well versus expectations."

You think Apple's CEO is lying about which device is most popular on an earnings call?

There's no fix for that kind of paranoia.

of course he isn't lying but you do realize that it doesn't take much for the newest iphone to be the leader of the pack when you have 7 other offerings. 12.6% at worst case. 100/8

Yeah and they still beat their guidance by $1.3 billion on the high-end and $4.3 billion on the low end.

Really? This year's quarter had one less week than last year's. They had three "flagship" phones on sale this year's quarter compared to last year's. And the most expensive of those three phones was on sale for a fairly more limited time.

I thought the same thing at first thanks to fake news headlines but a week less in the quarter this year. Phones sold per week actually went up.

Except they started and ended on the same days, with reports 1 day within each other (if that counts as as week to some news outlets?) according to Apple.

But WSJ and Nikkei said Apple was slashing orders 50%.

Yeah, and Reuters News Service happily rubber stamped these conclusions without ever considering that the Nikkei article was written by "Staff Writers" and based on info from "Anonymous Sources".

"Without A Doubt" - that was the catch phrase for 2017. What a world!

You are good at pulling up a calendar link (that I did not bother to look at).

I hope you were equally good at scoring some AAPL shares or call options for cheap :)

Yeah, this quarter had one less week - Tim Cook told us that - you are fact checking on that?

Serious question: Do you think discrepancies between quarters wasn't factored in when Apple and Wall Street came up with their expectations?

Of course ASP is up, they're selling a $1,000 phone.

Whatever - if you want to stir up some meaning from all this, look in the mirror and your stock portfolio and decide if you made the right assessment.
