Next you may be seeing more ship method changes for phones that will miss the holiday cut off, and finally there may be some 1 day deliveries.

Then there will be a gap of delivery dates as they go back to standard shipping.

This makes good sense. I remember when we were tracking our iPad 3rd gen preorders there was the same discussion - some people strong-armed apple reps into changing their shipping status but I doubt that changed the delivery dates in any way. I love Apple products but I'm not a blind fan-there are some Apple practices I'm not crazy about-but I trust that when Apple says delivers Sept 21 we'll get it on Sept 21. At least that's been my experience so far.
 
Mine says "Preparing For Shipment" Delivers 9/21 via Standard Shipping. Ordered 9/14 @12:05 AM PDT. Black 64 GB
 
White AT&T 64GB Received confirmation e-mail that the order was being processed at 12:11:49 AM
Current status shows Preparing for shipment, with Delivers 9/21 via Standard Shipping
 
Here's how I see it: Think of iPhone Day like Christmas. Parents NEED those presents by the 24th, or Christmas is literally ruined.

So think of us as the parents, and the Holiday Shipping is guaranteeing us that we will have our presents (iPhones) by Christmas (iPhone 5 Day).
 
Mine still says processing order :(...hopefully it will update status soon. As long as if I get it on the 21st I have no problems.
 
yeah looks like they're loading up the big dog 64GB's first, cuz I had placed the 2 16GB orders first with no issues but my 3rd order was my 64GB and placed it at 3:22am EST but didn't get my cc approved (red flagged) till about 8am EST and my 64GB status has changed to "Preparing for Shipment" while the other 2 16GB orders haven't changed.

Yep. I ordered a 16GB model and it went from standard to holiday and it's still processing. It still says delivers 9/21. I got my order in around 12:01.
 
My 16GB Black is also still processing. Logic would tell me that Sunday it'd be prepared for shipment, and then it'll be sent out on Monday.
 
I pre-ordered at around 3:25 a.m. after mad man refreshing and constant attempts through the Apple App. Finally the app went through and for a 32GB black, I have "Preparing for Shipment". Also, like most others: "Delivers 9/21 via Standard Shipping".

There are actually 18 different models since they come in black or white.
 
Ordered 16gb at 12:05 with the app and still processing. Ordered 32gb at 12:08 for wife and last night changed to preparing for shipment. Now I hope the 16gb will arrive at the same time otherwise I will be so jealous of my wife's new phone, especially she was sleeping through the preorder! :(

My Sprint 16GB black one is still processing.

It did change last night for some reason though. It went from saying "iPhone 5 16GB Black & Slate Sprint (CDMA)" to just "iPhone 5 16GB Black & Slate (CDMA)" And instead of saying "Delivers 9/21 with Standard Shipping" it now says "Delivers 9/21". Odd...

Holiday

I've been through the preorder process for every iPhone...... and iPad, for that matter. And I could agree more with the references to delivery day being like Christmas. I look forward to this week every year. Staying up late, or waking up early to get my order in, waiting anxiously with everyone else on the forums, watching for patterns in the shipping. Wondering if I might be one of the lucky ones who actually gets his phone a little early.....it's great.

Last year, with the 4s, I'd ordered a 32gb black with AT&T. It was one of the last to start shipping and all of us had figured out that the 64Gb black models had been the first batches to ship. It was BRUTAL watching all the other models all start to see shipping notices, but all us 32 GB were chomping at the bit.

My 64GB black slate AT&T model has already gone to preparing for shipment sometime early this morning. Stating delivery on the 21st, standard shipping. I'm looking forward to watching it as it makes its way from China, to my door, and spectating while so many on here lose their minds trying to decipher the patterns again this year. It's always fun.

So......merry Apple-mas folks!
 
After having gone thru this for each new release of the iPhone and iPad it all magically comes together and they will deliver on the 21st if that is your promised delivery date regardless of what your shipping status or shipping method currently states. :D
 
My orders switched to Holiday Shipping as well. Still scheduled for 9/21. Nobody should worry that they won't get it on that delivery date because it says Holiday Shipping. All it is is express type shipping to make the delivery date.
 
Both my AT&T 64GBs (one white and one black) now say Preparing for Shipment, Delivers 9/21. Ordered at about 3:05am ET on the iphone Apple Store app (thanks to the tips here).

I wouldn't worry about it. That means they are just express shipping it to make sure it arrives by the committed date.
