If I'm not mistaken, the current design was not released through a press conference, as they followed the redesigned MacBook Air. There were videos released online, but no "event."

Why does everyone think there needs to be a press conference to follow the design cues of the newly redesigned MacBook Air?

The original first of its kind in 08 unibody macbook pro had a presentation conference.

They have not changed the design since then, just tweaked it.

Unless there is an presentation conference thingy then it will just once again be a design tweak and will look pretty much the same imo.

Okay, since people seem to be misunderstanding what's going on here, I've edited the title a bit.

1. There are no reports of "delays" for the new MacBook Pros rumored to launch on Thursday. As far as we know, everything is still on track.

2. What's been pushed back are shipments for anyone looking to order a current MacBook Pro today. Their orders won't ship for 3-5 business days, meaning that U.S. orders made between last night and Thursday morning are being held until the new models launch on Thursday.

Clear?

Why does everyone want ssd? I know it's faster startup and what not, but it's considerably less storage.

Yeah I looked it up as I typed it - whoops.

Is Apple ditching optical drives?

I don't think so.
I really hope they add Bluray support. :D

Then maybe the optical drives would be more worth it. The very reason they ditched them in the Macbook Air is why they don't really need them in the Macbook Pro. But I still use them enough to want them... with bluray added.

Happy Birthday :)

And for a moment I was fooled by the picture in the article and was thinking that new 'books were already released and somehow I had missed it.

All our signs point to Thursday, but it's not confirmed.

I'm also confused. The post that someone posted at the top of page 4 seems to say that they won't be arriving on thursday but i'm not sure either.

The article just means that they are not shipping the current model (brand new from apple store) for 3-5 days instead of the usual 24hrs. It's just backing up the story that new ones will be released this week.

To be honest if its not up to scratch and better than the new MacBook Airs then its pretty poor form.

As a higher spec MacBook Air is arguable quicker than the current MBP's.

I don't know what is going on but haven't received my MBP 15" in three weeks already... I already paid 10% as a deposit to reserve it (it is in a very big shop, so is not scam) but they say they do haven't receive the model yet... I hope I will get the new one (if any)...

Has anyone else thought that this is Apples worst kept secret? For years, the forums has caught fire over speculation of new models or refreshes. This time, it seems that Apple has loosened up and have made it so obvious. I was accustomed to the cryptic Far East pictures containing parts from a rumored refresh and the leaked persons username, the denial from an Apple Executive shortly followed by a Tuesday announcements. This time, it seems too easy to figure out that we're weeks, if not days away from an updated MBP line. Or is Apple just messing with us?

Of course there has been speculation, but I personally don't believe they will remove ODDs yet. YET! And I also don't see bluray. Apple needs us to want something next year. And as much crap as I think that is, I'll probably buy it. :D

So if you ordered a MacBook Pro from the online store now, you'd get the mid-2010 model about 3-5 days later? Shouldn't they make it Unavailable if the were completely dry?

that would just look bad. and if they do it where if you buy it you get the new ones they still make money for the next few days, as opposed to not making any. that would just be stupid

i dont think there is a point to get rid of the ODD then it would just be like a bigger air and it wouldnt give an obvious difference between them. Between the 3 types of macbooks they are all different. i think it is too early to see a macbook pro without an ODD and make it look like the air

I think it's just because it's been so long since the last the update, and to be fair we don't really know anthing. Loads of guessing going on, but the only real solid stuff we can rely on is the 15 & 17 will get Sandy Bridge.

My thoughts EXACTLY. Plus, being that the Pro is a professional line, I use the ODD for work all the time. We haven't reached a time yet where the majority of users don't need them, IMO.

Worst kept secret? What about the stories about an Apple tablet going on for ages before it was actually released, with the pace ramping up the closer we got to the event? How about the incident with the iPhone 4 and the bar? And I would imagine that Apple wants small bits of information out before the release dates, because it mostly has a beneficial effect: People talk about it and people are lining up for it (as proven by this and other MBP news comments).

It's so funny you said that, since I'm a Graphic Designer. :D But I agree, and carrying around an extra component seems well... wrong. :p
