Imo the product line up is already a mess, adding 2 versions of the 6.1" model would only make it worse.

"Hello sir, let me show you our iPhones. We have the new X Plus and X, the X from 2017, and 2 models with a 6.1" screen, we also have the SE, the 8, the 8 plus, and much cheaper 7 and 7 plus."

Please cut the line up down, and stop introducing pointless new models. Still, I guess its only a rumour at this stage huh?

Doesn't make sense to me... If they stop selling iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and SE (cause of same A9 chip) after September, they will have:

- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
- new iPhone 5,8"
- new iPhone 6,1"
- new iPhone 6,1" dual sim
- new iPhone 6,5"

9 models and each with 2 storage options + still possibility of new SE... (I know there are chances, they will stop selling X)

I mean, even now with 7 models it is VERY confusing for non tech person, which one to choose... It's good to have options, but too many options makes shopping difficult. Remember the time, when Apple introduced iPhone 4, 4S etc? You went to Apple page and there where 3 models to choose e.g. iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4s. Back then, every next generation had a lot of changes. Now compare 7 to 8...

It's impossible they will put such model, but would be much clearer to have max 5 different models from 4"-6,5".

That is what I have been saying for a long time. The line up as it is now is confusing enough.

May be they will discontinue iPhone 7 or 6s. Who knows. May be they will do All In on Face ID and everyone of those new phone will have Face ID.

Another trend I think is interesting is all these Ming's memo about more affordable products. From Mac to iPhone.

I'm on the iUP and am really hoping for a larger X (X+?).

Because US service providers mandate it? Just a guess but no proprietary SIM card makes it easier for customers to switch to another provider.

The thing is, it's nobody's offing business whose SIM people do (or do not) put in their phones.

I'm in the UK, on the iUP program and SIM only, so not really affected by this, but it still really grinds my gears.

If I took out a phone contract at £x per month, I should be able to do what I like with that phone, as long as I pay the monthly contract price.

I think in the UK, only 3 use unlocked iPhones and the others need to follow suit.

The 6.5” X Plus that is rumored would be the same physical size as the current Plus models.

That would totally work for me.

I didn't get the iPhone X because it has less screen area compared to my current iPhone 6s Plus from 2015. Looking forward to the 6.5" iPhone X Plus.

because the iPhone X is much smaller than the 6S Plus. Easier to use one handed.

Completely agree

I always wondered why Apple always seems to have problems with large display phones being held up in since Snapdragon is also in Android and at about the same screen size, they have no problems getting their models out on time.

If there is always a doubt with it's with this.

All I want is an iPhone X with the 7 styling - aluminium Matt black thanks. I cannot stand the glass as I think it is ugly and also one small drop away from destruction. My 7 got dropped on concrete 3 times and was fine, my partner dropped her X on carpet and it cracked..........

I will keep it for at least 2-3 years, as I see no benefit at all in upgrading each year from now on.

I’ll be holding on to my iPhone 6s Plus until it no longer works. Hopefully it will last until Apple improves iOS and they implement MicroLED.
If you take advantage of the $29 battery replacement program this year, your phone could last a couple more years. Just keep the iOS the same to avoid new software/old hardware performance issues.

Apple was trying to standardize a software SIM that will make it easier for people to switch providers. But, the providers shot it down.

Good, make this large phablet thing the "budget" iPhone and put decent tech in a new, more expensive SE so those of us who want phone-sized phones can benefit from having some flagship-level features for a change.

6.5 OLED depending on price.

I do however feel the 6.1 is a perfect size, if only it was OLED.

My iPhone 6s currently does everything I need it to do, the only improvement I want is a better screen that doesn’t dim when it warms up a bit, and better contrast in dark scenes. Oh and yea I don’t want to give up my touchID and the headphone jack, I use it all the time. Bluetooth headphones aren’t there yet, especially when it comes to the mics.

Ditto. The only reason I'd be looking for a replacement to my 6S is an improved camera module (and maybe storage, 128GB is a bit snuggly if you use the camera with abandon). Otherwise, I really do not want to part with TouchID and the audiojack.

You won’t be getting a new phone for 2-3 more years then

I can live with that.

After yearly upgrades to the 7+, I am still skeptical that the X+ will win me over. If the LCD version has smaller bezels and therefore footprint... sold.

Apple I want the same screen in a smaller body not the same body with some uselessly wide screen added.

Apple's upcoming lower-cost 6.1-inch iPhone could be available in two models, one that includes a single SIM and a second that offers dual-SIM dual standby (DSDS) functionality, aka two physical SIM card slots, according to an investor's note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo believes that the 6.1-inch dual-SIM iPhone could be priced at $650 to $750, while a single SIM model could potentially be less expensive at $550 to $650. Prospective prices for the two OLED iPhones Apple plans to introduce in 2018 were not mentioned in today's note, but those two devices are expected to be significantly more expensive.

Kuo has mentioned dual-SIM dual standby functionality in prior notes, where he said at least one of the three new iPhones expected in 2018 would offer the feature. In this note, Kuo clarifies that both the 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch devices will support DSDS, while the 5.8-inch iPhone will not.

Kuo also previously said that Apple will use Intel's XMM 7560 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X20 modems for faster LTE speeds, and that the DSDS devices will support LTE+LTE connections to allow two SIM cards to be active simultaneously using one set of chips. A dual-SIM feature would make it easier for people to switch carriers when traveling by allowing and Kuo believes it would be highly popular in China.

Apple is rumored to be planning to introduce three iPhones in 2018, the 6.1-inch LCD model outlined here, a 5.8-inch OLED model positioned as a sort of second-generation iPhone X, and a 6.5-inch OLED model that can be thought of as an "iPhone X Plus."

Kuo believes that mass production on the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will start three to five weeks later than the two OLED models because of the recent decision to add a DSDS model. Apple's supply chain will see strong growth in 4Q18-2Q19F, says Kuo, with the 6.1-inch iPhone's low price and DSDS feature to "significantly boost shipment momentum."

Kuo predicts the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone and the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will be Apple's most popular devices next year, with consumers less interested in the 5.8-inch model due to its smaller screen, higher price tag, and lack of DSDS functionality compared to the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone.

The 6.1-inch LCD model in particular could account for 65 to 75 percent of total iPhone shipments from 3Q 2018 to 3Q 2019.

I love the size of my iPhone X. With that being said, why is Apple pushing everyone to the larger models? The 5.8 second gen X will probably be around the same price as the current model. The other two offerings will be less from what this article says? Im not understanding the pricing model. I guess we'll have to see how well each one does later this year.

I didn't get the iPhone X because it has less screen area compared to my current iPhone 6s Plus from 2015. Looking forward to the 6.5" iPhone X Plus.
Uh, that's not true. It's a smaller form factor, but the screen area is actually larger. The iPhone 6s Plus is wider, but the X is taller. More surface area.

If it adds the headphone jack back, at $550 it might be worth it. I won't hold my breath, though.

For once, I think the current iPhone X won't be sold after the iPhone X.2 comes out. And we currently have already:

- iPhone SE
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X

That is eight models.

apple has to offer a low cost phone or they risk brick wall in sales volume. They will still profit, though not as much, but will not increase market share anymore. Then, when phone tech hits commodity phase (very soon) rules again change dramatically.

Uh, that's not true. It's a smaller form factor, but the screen area is actually larger. The iPhone 6s Plus is wider, but the X is taller. More surface area.
If the iPhone X didn't have rounded corners and no notch, its screen would be a little bit larger than that of the Plus phones. If you subtract those, it is a bit smaller (but we are talking only a few percent in each direction).

If anyone thinks Apple will make a 6.1” iPhone for $550, than I got a bridge for sale you might be interested in.

Apple has always charged more for bigger screen sizes on all of their product lines. No matter how inferior the specs are, this will cost much more than $550. Honestly, I think $799 is even wishful thinking, remember iPhone 5C? I am predicting $899.

Also, Apple will never release a dual physical sim device ever. The only way this makes sense is if there is an “iPod Touch” upgrade with a 6.1” screen for $550 with LTE only.
