I have yet to see a timetable for when Intel is going to release 11th Gen H-Series CPUs suitable to use in a 16” MacBook Pro update. That’s not to say that Intel isn’t already ready to go, but I see no indications that a launch is imminent. More so the fact that Intel hates launching this late in the year as they usually can’t provide enough CPUs for the holiday season. That might be mitigated though by the fact that H-Series is comparatively low volume enough for most PC OEMs.

They said "coming soon" a month ago, but for Intel, "coming soon" could be weeks, months or even years.

Sure, but there are no hard rules to when Apple considers a model to be new.

They've certainly done a minor spec-bumps within an Intel chip generation and called it a new model, as a few examples:
  • Mid 2018 and Mid 2019 MBPs both used 8th Gen Intel chips.
  • Mid 2013 and Early 2014 MBAs both used 4th Gen Intel chips.
  • Early 2015 and Mid 2017 MBAs both used 5th Gen Intel chips.
So just because they're still using the same gen Intel chips as the prior model does not mean this is not a new model.
Mid-2019 15” MacBook Pros used 9th Gen H-Series CPUs, not 8th Gen. The 16” uses the same 9th Gen CPUs as the 2019 15” MacBook Pro.

I dont know if this is true....is there an 10th gen Intel 45W cpu ? for the 16" MBP?
I guess not...so take this with a grain of salt

Yeap Intel is not done with Apple just yet, or Apple is not done with Intel, either way ARM will dominate the Apple ecosystem in the next upcoming years .

Very nice! I would likely upgrade to this I think from my 2016 MBP. It's been to the shop so many times and I'm all out of Apple Care.

I am going to take a wild guess and say they have finally found a way to include a 1080P camera in this thing to make it a great Zoom machine for remote learning. What a great complement that would be to the great quality microphones they've already included. Even if that means making the screen a bit thicker to hold the camera!

I'll be curious to see if Apple's implementation of ARM is compatible with Microsoft's implementation of ARM. As we move away from x86, we move towards a more fragmented future with compatibility challenges between different manufacturers. Microsoft will likely need to develop a special version of Windows 10 ARM that's specifically compatible with Apple Silicon.

Many of us are curious right there with you. It's been a slow process for MSFT and I'm sure Apple will take their time too but it's been interesting how it's progressed. I love the Surface Pro X for so many reasons and it improved immensely on every area the Surface Pro needed to. I think both companies benefit from their App Ecosystems too! It's cool to see where this future will lead!

Incorrect. There have been rumours for a while for an updated 16 inch between oct-nov (similar time when it was updated last year) but just with an intel 10th gen upgrade, gpu bump, maybe a camera update etc minor stuff.
It will come at the same time as the arm mac/s (1 or 2 lower end macbooks)
Point to any. There are none. The GPU bump happened already. That was it.

I have no idea what they would even update. The 10th-gen Comet Lake H chips are just 100MHz increase at best on boost speeds. There are no new mobile GPUs. Maybe more memory?
Intel has announced that 8 core 11 Gen Tiger Lake CPUs coming to workstations within 2020. It’s built on a new 10nm++ process and brand new architecture, should net about 40% performance gain.
Also next week AMD is launching their brand new 6000 series, should provide a 50% improvement over current 5000 series.

Tiger Lake-H might be ready soon.

Rocket Lake-H probably isn’t for a while.

I’d much rather have Tiger Lake, which is supposedly going up to 8 cores, so that could happen.

This will likely be 10th generation as the interesting Intel H Series parts (11th generation) comes out Q1 2021.

New Apple Silicon Macs will be presented at the Keynote, silent refresh of the 16“ (intel based) afterwards. Q4/2021 or early 2022 with Apple Silicon. That makes sense.

I just wonder what makes more sense marketing wise. The silent 16" refresh before or after the event.

Hope Apple makes a 2021 Intel based 16 inch MacBook. Tigerlake next year is going to be massive in terms of the H Series with 8 cores.

Yes, it's faster at scrolling instagram. For people who rely on macs getting work done, we shalln't be touching ARM macs for awhile. Unless you are an social media influencer of course.

dumb take. a14 is faster across-the-board than most intel chips, per core. And the version showing up in macs will be faster across-the-board than most intel chips, period.

hahaha ... borderline click-bait thread title.

Still good to have one last top of the line Intel machine before teh 16" goes out in a year. Now ... which CPU, GPU and keyboard combo will it receive? That is the underlying question.
