I think that people are over optimistic about ARM MacBook Pro and replacing the whole Mac line it is going to be years before they could try to replace a Xeon processor in a Mac Pro.
If by “people” you mean “Apple” and by “years” you mean “two years” then maybe you’re right, because they’ve already clearly stated the transition will take about two years.

Argh. I *desperately* need a new 16" machine, but I am going to wait for Arm.

yep
Exactly my situation. As soon as I saw it was in their Bootcamp notes, I deflated. Not updating my home machine at least has budgetary benefits, but my work laptop also needs to be replaced...

The irrational part of me hopes they release Intel and AS products side by side. Not gonna happen though.

2 years to transition for hardware but how long for software. Apple said nothing about that.

I am really curious what all the people complaining about not being able to do real work feel will be missing?

Every single tool I use is expected to be available from the start, including Xcode, BBEdit, Drafts, Photoshop, Lightroom and Microsoft Office.

I transitioned from 68k to PPC and from PPC to Intel on day one. It was fine, both times.

Sure, the MacOS 9 to Mac OS X transition was a little rocky. However, dual-booting, and later the Classic environment, ironed that out well enough, so it was fine too.

2020 MBP 16 is already released. It's the models with the Radeon 5600m.

I just ordered and received a new 16" with the Radeon 5600m. If I go to "About this Mac", the computer is listed as a 2019 model.

While I hope you're right (since I just bought mine), I'm not counting out a refresh.

Well the A14 in my iPhone 12 beats a my maxed out iMac 27-in Late 2013 by 15%, and I can't say I find my Mac slow although it's running all the latest software.

Now double this score for an A14X and it will be equivalent to an 8-core i7 10875H or so. Not bad at all if you want my opinion.

But who tells us they'll really use A14X in their laptops? Even the A14 would be great.

Yes! I have been waiting for too long!

What excites me the most about ARM Macs is what the basic A-line chips can do in a tiny enclosure... Now imagine that with an active cooling system, larger chasis, more cores, more RAM, more GPU, now we are talking.

Edit: I got excited too quickly, this points to an Intel release. :(
If it's a Bootcamp Mac it won't be an ARM-based Mac.

2020 means the updated graphic 5600m this story isn’t needed

I posted a comment not to long ago that had a couple people disagree with me but I knew an updated Intel 16 inch MacBook Pro was coming before the switch.
Nash shi tor ri bolaya wuh fai-tor ish-veh ek' spock

There was an earlier rumor that 11th gen refresh could happen. If nothing changes, then I’ll pull the trigger on the 16in 5600m model. It would be nice if they at least updated the camera.

I won't be buying a MacBook Pro again until that Touch Bar is gone. It's so useless and unnecessary.

I have a 2018 15" mbp with that ****ing touch bar and that pitiful excuse for a keyboard.... but I keep it docked as it's unusable otherwise. Might as well be a mac mini.
