Apple Releases iOS 10.1 With New Portrait Mode for iPhone 7 Plus [Updated]

Update corrupted my iOS (I assume), and I only get the restore screen on my phone. I tried a soft reset (power and down volume) and nothing. Now I have no phone until I can get home and hook it up to my computer to restore it.
Not that you are supposed to HAVE to but really should close all apps and reboot device before updating the OS. Been doing that since iP4s and never an issue with OTA updates. Just makes since to do that to me even though Apples doesn't say you have to.

The 6s probably couldn't have done this as longer lenses (like the new one on the 7+) typically have shallower depth of field. (I don't know for sure as I can't see your EXIF data.) That's one reason why a portrait lens on a DSLR sticks out a bit. The effect you've seen is the result of hardware, distance, and light. The portrait mode in 10.1 uses both lenses and heavy processing to achieve its effect.
Actually only the 7+ has it and the 6s and even the 7 cant because of the single lens. The plus is actually taking 2 pics and stitching them together.

Did the app direct you to maintain subject within 8 feet, as it does now?

On portrait mode only. Normal mode I just get depth of field. Portrait is a bit gimmicky, the test photos thus far are a little to obvious that its computer generated effect rather than a natural progression. On portrait mode you get two photographs, one with depth and one without.

If they are now gonna warn about this:

They also should warn before buying not optimized apps....just saying...to be fair with the customer, even remove them from the store.
Actually that has changed a while back. Apple told (made) developers to update their apps to 64bit. There is info regarding that out on the Interwebz. I cant remember the exact details but its been done for a while now.

[Edit] Here is one such article regarding this

GSM 7+ 128GB OTA successful.

Calendar Widget still truncating early meetings in certain circumstances. Hoping the "list" version updates correctly now as I like that one better anyway.

Problem is not all the developers are updating their apps and those old apps are still in store available for purchase...I hope Apple will just give them a certain time to do it.

- Could you elaborate? Which new behaviour do you mean, and which differences to you see between the apps?
It's much easier to create the window hop when double clicking the home button when Safari is the current application versus News being the current application.

It looks like 10.1 screwed up my iPhone 6S Plus Verizon.

Originally I tried OTA update and that messed up and a picture came up asking me to connect to iTunes. Then I restored with 10.1 and it is Apple logo boot loop. Basically I can go to enter passcode screen then select wifi network skip siri etc and then it crashed or something like that and I see different color screens, apple logo, horizontal lines (Black, red etc.), passcode screen and it continues...

I've been having MANY CarPlay crashes since the last update and issues that did just not exist in iOS 9.

Fair enough; odd that iOS9 CarPlay would be trouble free and iOS10 would be buggy . Found it pretty stable (using it with a late 2015 UK Vauxhall Astra). Had the odd issue where the back button in the music player backs all the way out to Artist, rather than back to the previous album track listing screen, but otherwise has been problem free. Any danger your car entertainment/head unit might need a manufacturer firmware update?

Yeah stability is the core issue with CarPlay. Some days I will go to connect it and it works, other days no. If I reboot the radio, then it will connect, so I'm not sure if it is an Apple issue of VW firmware issue in my MIB 2 entertainment system.

I pray that this fixes my bluetooth connectivity issues and also fixes alert sounds (SMS,email, etc) from not playing when bluetooth is enabled. Can anyone verify either of these as fixed in 10.1 vs 10.0.x?

Ok, updating now, I know, I didn't learn my lesson when 10 first came out and I tried to upgrade my 6s+. Anyway, first apple Logo has popped up. Anyway, what I don't get, is why are people so lazy to read what is in the update. Half the posts here are asking if a bug was fixed, music star rating fixed, etc. Why don't you read the release notes, it tells you everything.

Apple frequently doesn't list every bug fixed in their release notes. If they did the notes would be 20 or 30 pages long.

Fake bokeh, with focus errors like items in foreground blurry and items in background sharp.
What exactly is bokeh? Someone earlier asked how many people ever heard of it before the announcement of the iPhone 7 and I for one am not a camera buff and never heard of it. Is it just the blurring of the background while the closer image being sharp?

I believe so. Am on AT&T also and the new carrier is showing v.26.0 Could've swore the previous was 25.0. Also, looks like a new modem firmware as well.

The AT&T carrier version under iOS 10.0.3 was indeed 25.0. Modem firmware was 1.00.05 (on 7 Plus).

Hahaha. Funny stuff. Where's the bin because that's where you belong.

Insult others? Please. People are so on-edge nowadays. Take a break. Have a Kit-Kat.

Back on topic, yep, the portrait mode is excellent. People forget it's all done in real-time.

Thanks. Appreciate it.
