No subpixel anti-aliasing for non-retina displays? So all of us Air users are out of luck?

That interested me too. The image quality in the last beta with non retina displays was really bad. Even retina mac users are complaining and many have a second 1x display like a 1440p 27". Running Windows is much better on the same displays at the moment (so sad...).

What will it do to my mid 2015 15”
MBP (maxed out)? Will it make it slower and force me to upgrade to a new hardware as Apple is usually doing?

We are still expecting an October Mac event yea?

for low-cost MacBook, mac mini, and possible other things?

I would have guessed this release would have aligned with that event.
Apple released a new version of MacOS in September and later released new MacBook Pros at an October event two years ago. So this wouldn't be the first time.

It's downloading at less than 1 Mb/s. I guess Apple's servers are a bit overwhelmed right now. 40 minutes to go, and it's been going for an hour already.

Reminds me of the 10/10 connection I had 10+ years ago. It's almost a bit nostalgic.

Must be the slowest download from the MAS ever...
Gazillion dollar company, but can't load balance...

It sure is. I prefer the form factor of my older MBP and there is nothing slow about it for most common tasks.

Though I completely understand the need to cut off support at some point, it just seems like a waste of perfectly usable hardware.
True, you certainly couldn’t keep running your perfectly good hardware on your current Mac OS.

3hrs left for me and my connection is 500mb/s down

Anyone experiencing download issues? Mine is stuck at "Calculating..." and then the "Download" button is greyed out. This happens every time. Tried a restart and that didn't work. Any suggestions?

I tried a beta a few months ago, but it was too buggy for me (forget the exact problem) - do things seem to be stable in the GM?
Obviously not too buggy if you can’t remember bug that upset you so. Hope you filed a report, Apple probably fixed it. Betas are not for everyone. I use public betas. Never found it too buggy, but then I had to use windows for work, so even betas are stable by comparison

To save downloads copy installer to external hard drive before installing, Installer can be found in applications folder.
Once insulation is complete installer gets automatically deleted from applications folder.

You can enable font smoothing in Terminal (at least in the betas - not tested in this GM release yet). But it's not subpixel anti-aliasing.

Sigh. Using "Back to my Mac" one last time to kick off the upgrade on my home iMac so it'll be done when I get home. Unfortunately, upgrading the iMac to Mojave removes back to my mac functionality so this is only fitting :(
I heard back to my Mac was outdated and replaced by Remote Desktop. I never used it myself, Remote Desktop works. Is that true? Or are there things on back to my Mac that are no longer available? If so, I would keep running High Sierra

A very sad and depressing day to all of us who still using an older Mac from 2009, 2010, or 2011...

Sorry to hear your Macs stopped working today because of this release. I'm kidding of course, but software needs to abandon old tech to progress forward. The more time developers need to spend ensuring older devices work the less time they have for newer more innovative features.

Personally, 5 years should be the minimum supported time frame, and 8 max. Just my personal opinion.

Don't install if you're running an old iTunes version! (I do btw.) Especially version 12.6.5 where you have access to the iOS App Store. According to German online magazine Mac&i/Heise it won't work any more under Mojave!

Other software needs updates, p.e. Cubase by Steinberg. There are problems with other audio software as well.[/QUOT

Bad news. I rely heavily on 12.6 for custom ring tones for one thing

Most of us here know the official reason Apple gave for dropping the older Macs. But those of us who are following the MacOS Mojave Unsupported Macs Thread know that Mojave still contains all the code necessary to provide OpenGL acceleration on pre-Metal Macs.

So what's the real reason these Macs aren't supported?

That sounds similar to mine and Mojave’s has been great since Beta1 for me. Best OS in years .
