Android is #1in sales and #1 in install base, i think that they will be fine.
I'm not so much questioning who's behind the Droid and Xoom ads, but mainly pointing out that Apple is going 180-degrees with their ads by contrast, de-geeking things and making them more accessible. Sure, the Xoom ads are really freaking cool looking but that's mainly for geeks. But for the average consumer, the ones who aren't turned on by flashy, sci-fi imagery where tablets become hovering ships and users turn into robots, which do you think is more inviting?

let it go about microsoft, they won, get over it. It just seems petty to hold on to some nonexistent fight for something that has already been decided. Both companies make lots of money. Just out of curiosity what industry sector do you work in because it's apparently not the IT space.

Where in the Hell did he mention Microsoft? Unless you're talking about his signature? Why don't you quote it then?

"Getting a slate computer done right is "one of the top issues on my mind." - Steve Ballmer, July 2010 Already been done, Monkey-Boy. http://youtu.be/XMrhoOHNOrI

So it's your contention that Microsoft has "won" the tablet race? With the HP Slate, perhaps?

"Android" is hundreds of different, incompatible phones from dozens of different manufacturers. The only people making money on it are Google and the spambots they're selling your eyeballs to. What single phone from what single company has the largest sales and the largest installed base? That's the question you should be asking, but since you wouldn't like the answer, you don't.

This ad campaign is trying to do what Think Different did. Let's see how good it gets, but nothing will top the Think Different campaign. Nothing.

Think Different was a great campaign except it told you nothing about the product, and still relies on people recognizing who those people in the commercial are. So it does not succeed on every level at all.

Bulleton, the home of Andersons Splitpea soup.

Turn on a TV, read a newspaper, or go online and check out the news...Japan is having a national disaster over there affecting the ability of workers to get to work, not to mention eat uncontaminated food.

No work by workers, means no products made. No products made, means no supply for anyone, including Apple.

Wake up count-chocula, no hype just the reality of the world Peter pan. Im sure the people of Japan are very sorry for causing you to be annoyed.

Unbelievable!

Oh dear, I suspect you may have forgotten that there is OFTEN a shortage of new AAPL products.....earthquake or not. In, short Blue, the beat goes on.

Again you fail to see history repeating itself. It's only apples fault they sell one phone, os vs os android is smoking them. Ios is the iPhone an that is getting smoked, but feel free to change the argument to fit your needs.

So the Android Corporation™ is cleaning up selling all these "buy-one-get-five-free" bottom-feeder phones? Good to know!

Let people choose their own philosophy or religion.

Why not buy a iWallhanger, and download the "1984" app from the "Department of Knowledge". Activate the camera, and let Big Brother watch you.

Very classy with the black theme

That's the first thing I noticed. For many years now, all of Apple's ads have been designed around a clean white background. Even the new iPhone ads sitll have the white background. That choice seemed to fit when Apple's products were sheathed in white plastic. This is the first ad that looks like the current product line. It's probably no coincidence that it also looks like the current Snow Leopard interface.

It's obvious you have no clue on google's model or revenue streams for android

You're making my point for me. The only one benefiting from this fragmented free-for-all you lump together as "The Android market" is Google—and they're making money by pimping out your eyeballs to 50 million spammers. If that was Apple's business model you'd be frothing at the mouth about it.

There's something vaguely ironic about the fact that my iPod Touch crashed with a hard reset when I tried to play this video.

Yes, Mr. Al Coholic, iPads do have multiple applications. Your apparent belief that all applications must be promoted in every ad is at best impractical.

I don't expect the apps to be promoted because that would surely be the iPad's demise were they to showcase its mediocrity. So… like I said in my first post… this "the ipad is magic" tactic is no surprise.

Keep guzzling folks. Whenever I need a glorified facebook machine, a "mobile" photo booth app for making funny faces and of course a virtual bongo music app I'll keep the iPad in mind.

*Emphasis mine.

The word "mediocrity" means "in the middle". Please list the large number of shipping, available, NOT vaporware tablets that the iPad is "in the middle" of.

I like this approach.

That's where all the Windows/Android people go wrong. They care so much about the technical performance of the products, but they don't realize that the technology is worthless if it isn't able to be utilized. Like some phones might brag they have a quad-core processor (there probably aren't quad-core phones yet), but that power is never utilized and the phone probably becomes hot and uncomfortable for the user. I'm sure people care more about how THEY USE IT rather than how the computer does it.

I love these folks who still get all bent out of shape because the iPad doesn't have flash, or a gazillion slots, or a blue ray drive, or a built in refrigerator...etc... If you want all the bells and whistles, buy a friggin laptop, as that isn't the point of the iPad.

When will it get through all of the critics' thick heads....consumption device...CONSUMPTION DEVICE!!!!

Seriously? You do understand that that is a small sample of folks. Most of whom choose to gripe and moan and not to do things like return it.
Even if there are 1000 unique units covered there th full sales at this point are likely one million plus making them a tiny fraction of users. Even if you generously say they are one tenth of the folks with problems that isn't a sizable cut to the tune of every unit, virtually or not

Yes. There is an inherent sampling bias in people posting in troubleshooting/repair forums (self selecting). This applies to all such forums, regardless of product. Satisfied customers generally aren't motivated to post that they have no problems.

Yeah, Microsoft won. That was ten years ago. But then what happened? It all slipped away from them. The only place where they are still big, at the moment, is the enterprise. But everyone can see how that is slipping away from them. There are serious estimates that in the next three years, there will be 200 million computer replacements sold that don't run Microsoft software. Their software will be written by Apple and Google. And these devices will enter the enterprise, they already do. In five years there will be no good reason why the PC on the desk in the office should run Microsoft software. In ten years there will be no good reason to have Microsoft on the server.

Kind of agree in a general sense. But there's nothing wrong with challenging the consumer. I've never liked the "gear it towards 6th graders" approach so many agencies use. Make 'em think a little, it won't hurt them.

This has got to be one of the best posts I've ever read on this site. I just don't get why so many mac people decide to hate Flash just because steve jobs tells them to. I had no idea that this was really an issue until I asked a question on this website yesterday and two people replied to that question. I would not buy a product that doesn't have or support my choice to add/install Adobe's Flash. Mac people can't just stick their heads into the ground and ignore reality. Most of the internet sites use flash technology. Steve Jobs is simply wrong about this issue.
