Error messages, website crashed and had to keep trying. Ended up with 3 orders and yet I can’t cancel the extras. Apple customer service couldn’t help either because their system is also lagging. Can’t believe we live in 2022 and Apple still can’t sort out their web orders?
Here is a shocker for you, no system can handle millions of orders simultaneously. They bring a lot of extra bandwidth and servers up, but only so many resources are available.

I get up early anyway. The apple store did open up a few minutes late, but after it did start processing the order the process sailed through with a delivery of the 16th.

As someone who worked on both the Apple Store website, Apple Store App, and the Google Store, I can tell you unequivocally that both Apple and Google make minimal investments in their eCommerce platforms.

At Apple, hardware engineering is king with AMP slowly creeping up.

At Google, GCP and Ads are the breadwinners.

eCommerce though? Pittance. Thus why you’re seeing the amount of issues with this launch. Although, it’s not nearly as bad as the Pixel 6/6 Pro launch. Yikes.

I kept getting this error message but somehow one must have gone through because 20 mins later I got a confirmation email and could see it in my orders for launch day pick up!

Following the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro becoming available for pre-orders, customers are facing a multitude of issues on Apple's online store and through the Apple Store app, seeing errors, the inability to confirm a purchase, and more.

Customers facing issues on Apple's online store and within the Apple Store app are advised to try reloading the page and app or trying again later. The issues facing customers are causing mass inconveniences as shipping dates for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max begin to slip. The iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will begin arriving to customers on Friday, September 16. The iPhone 14 Plus will begin arriving on Friday, October 7.

I was able to lo load store 4 minutes after 5:00am. I completed the checkout of my saved order for iPhone 14 ProMax in about 30 seconds. Looking forward to my new iPhone, especially camera improvements. Picking up at Apple Store on 9/16. Other than 4 minute wait for Apple Store to load the entire process was perfect.

Tried for 45 minutes on my pre-order , just getting errors at the confirm address page at checkout. Then saw shipping dates had slipped to mid october so gave up until iphone 15.

I was up early anyway for work, I logged right into the apple store app on my iPad Pro at 5:01am. Had my preorder ready night before. No problems what so ever. iPhone 14 Pro 128 GB silver delivering Friday and got the email confirmation right away as well. Shocked how easy it went. Sorry for those going through hurtles, it’s sucks.

Here’s a shocker for you, then manage the demand. Stagger the rollout better, what’s the point of emailing people telling them to preorder and they can’t. Let’s be honest, they can’t even manage merging legacy Apple ID’s but they can create family sharing. Apple has the money and ability to create a better customer experience. And whilst I agree the demand was going to be high, they have had many years to try and manage this better.

Real first world problems.
If this is what people have to complain about, then the world is really f*cked.

(Yes, i ordered mine and had to wait 10 minutes. So what.)
But they've been doing this for a decade and a half. We aren't ordering original iPhone

I did the pre-approval for the iPhone Upgrade Program yesterday and used the Apple store app and got through all the way to the end. Selected my store and pick up time and hit place order and it kept refreshing and greying out In Store Pick Up and would only do delivery.

I didn't want delivery since I'll be away that weekend and din't want my phone sitting, but also I don't like sending phones back via mail. I've had two "lost" ones in the past that took me months of fighting to get the charges reversed for the remainder of the phone loan. The whole reason I switched to iUP was because you could do it all in store and have your trade in marked as complete instantly.

I kept trying in the app and same issue. Switched to my MacBook and got to the end and it said my order wasn't eligible for in store pick up, with no explanation.

Then the site crashed and release dates slipped and there was no way of calling or chatting because they shut down. So I guess my options are to wait until release day and see if I can get one in-store or wait a few months until you can just walk in and buy one.

Either way the worst pre-order launch I've had, and I've done every one since the iPhone 4. It's not even a big update!

Exactly a decade and a half. You should have logistics mastered by now. First thing, they should have staggered 14+ like you said since you can't get it until later anyhow

I am sure I am just adding to the various complaints and comments, but it is frustrating that you cannot modify your order when Apple continues to have the wrong shipping address for you, even despite changing it several times. I keep on reaching out to them via chat and all I get back is "try again in a few hours." It shouldn't be hard to implement a system where you can modify your order or even cancel it. I am leaning towards cancelling at this time.
try to delete all addresses from your account. I had FIVE.

Like a bunch of other T-Mobile customers, I got the “your number is inactive” message … while trying to place my order from said “inactive” number. 🤨😑🙄

Finally got through and managed to place my order an hour after opening (so, 6am PDT), but by then shipping has slipped to mid-October. It’ll be Apple Store pickup for me instead; 25 miles each way but I’ll get it on Day 2.

iPhone 14 Pro, 1TB (I shoot a lot of video), Space Black.

Um, I think most if not all people here aren't complaining about having to wait 10 minutes. They're complaining about not being able to order at all or multiple orders going through instead of one and not being able to cancel, etc. Sounds like you were one of the lucky ones.

Yeah that was a mess.

I waited 5 minutes for the store to stop saying "we're getting things ready", meanwhile a friend send me a photo of his completed purchase, then the iOS app kept saying "we're having trouble saving your details" when I got the the address entry part, so my pre-order was totally useless.

Eventually got through on my Mac but it took 35 minutes of constant attempts, the pages kept crashing out to "Page Not Found", before I could place a brand new order, by which time the delivery date was back to October 7

Only issue I had was actually getting into the store. Kept getting the "Almost There!" message until 1309, by which time the black 128GB 14 Pro Max I was after had slipped to 26/09 - 03/10. Pre-order from yesterday went through fine with Apple Pay and trade in.

Preordering is more than the first hour today, I bet there will be mostly zero issues the rest of the day. There are always issues in the first hour. And Apple has no control over carrier APIs going down which was some of the issues.

This was not a great buying experience for me - things went much smoother last year.

I use the yearly Apple update program, and did the pre-pre-order prep ahead of time like many others. But, since Apple staggered the Apple Store openings, the presale for some people started 5-10min late, so those of us who should've been in early, since we already chose the phone, carrier and got approved days ahead of time, had our ship dates slip instantly the moment we completed the order (30 seconds later).

After I bought the iPhone (Pro Max 512GB Space Black), the Apple Store App kept giving errors for quite a while when I was trying to order cases/accessories. I was able to complete that purchase about 30min later. I should have ordered accessories beforehand, I now realize.

I don't really mind waiting another week or so to get the new iPhone, but why bother with the 'head start' if you're going to keep the doors closed longer for some people? I also think Apple needs to put more resources behind these order processes on the backend. The usual and expected bogged down congestion aside, there was definitely something else going on this time, perhaps some servers were down initially.

This is the easiest it has ever been for me. Had my phone saved and ready to go. Went online at 4:55 am store opened at 5:02 for me and I was done by 5:03 and got my confirmation coming next Friday. This was the smoothest as well as earliest the store ever opened for me have pre ordered since the 4 or 4s whenever they started allowing you to do it online (maybe 5 or 6). Have gotten a new phone since the 3g skipped only the 3GS.

Have you never ordered before? Every year it is anywhere from a few minutes to almost an hour before it opens. Only once did I not get it release day. That time I made the mistake of ordering direct from sprint.
