Imagine how big it could be if they put any kind of effort into it...

Apple only has about 5% of the computer market. How about taking some of the 95% they don't have? They are leaving tens of billions on the table while 60% of the total revenue of the company depends on a single product that exists in a finicky market.

Amazing.

Spot on. It could easily be twice as much.

The Apple Pencil works in combination with specialized hardware inside the iPad Pro models, so although technically Apple could add that hardware across their lineup going forward (if that really made sense to do), it's not possible to simply "unlock" the functionality in prior devices.
Isn't that sad? I can draw on a picture with my finger, but they cannot provide a solution to use their pencil on devices, even in the most rudimentary way??? Even with an app for note taking?? Something?!?! Yet we have the HERMES wrist band. Somebody get the smelling salts.... I am feeling woozy....

I do believe we will start seeing some interesting innovation from apple. They are setting up some pretty massive offices and universities etc all over the world. They are building a foundation. Right now its a bit stagnant but not that much. Not enough for any of us to actually switch ecosystems. All their devices are well made and while not always cutting edge, are damn good.

I hope you're right. Sometimes I feel they build stuff or open offices because they don't know how to spend all their money and to keep it valuable they transfer it to a more stable asset (land).

I would jump to linux too except that none of my applications run nativelly on it. No Photoshop, no 3D Studio Max, No Fruity Loops...

It will suck to give up Adobe stuff, but I can always dual-boot, and will anyway for gaming. There's also virtualization. The main thing for me is to stay in a *NIX environment. It's frankly why I've stuck with Apple this long. Linux would never be my first choice, but if there's no new Apple workstations, then it's time to move on.

Xcode on Windows - available today!

Because we know our own Computers arent good enough.

Hope Im wrong, too.

Oh please. We all know that if Apple released a Surface Pro, exactly as it is, but running OSX, we would all go apes**t over it. I know I would.

Oh good, then everyone here could complain about the sketchy drivers, loud fan, and horrible battery life too. The Surface Pro has plenty of flaws. It would not fly as an :apple: product.

Prostetnic Jony Ive tilted his head and smiled very slowly. The prisoners sat in iVogon Poetry Appreciation chairs – strapped in.
The sweat stood out cold on Ford Prefect's brow, and slid round the electrodes strapped to his temples. These were attached to a battery of electronic equipment – imagery intensifiers, rhythmic modulators, alliterative residulators and simile dumpers - all designed to heighten the experience of the poem and make sure that not a single nuance was lost.
Arthur Dent sat and quivered. He had no idea what he was in for, but he knew that he hadn't liked anything that had happened so far and didn't think things were likely to change.

A video about a manufacturing process began to play, and the iVogon began to read a fetid little passage of his own devising.
"The new MacBook Pro is tenderly bathed in baby oil...", he began. Spasms wracked Ford's body - this was worse than ever he'd been prepared for.
"...to perfect the intracious circumfilanicity of the chamfered edges..."
"Aaaaaaargggghhhh!" went Ford Prefect, wrenching his head back as lumps of pain thumped through it. He could dimly see beside him Arthur lolling and rolling in his seat. He clenched his teeth.
The iVogon tilted his head to an impossible angle and his voice was reaching a new level of icky, impassioned softness, reminiscent of being massaged while covered in honey and sardines.
"Lusciously laser sculpted and polished to velvety perfection on a subatomic level with a delicate drizzle of colibri egg yolk."
"Nnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyuuuuuuurrrrrrrggggggghhhhh!" cried Ford Prefect and threw one final spasm as the electronic enhancement of the last line caught him full blast across the temples. He went limp.
Okay, this was ******* amazing!

Isn't that the joke?

A lot of people here and on the rest of the internet have been vilifying Apple for using Skylake in the new MacBook Pro but suddenly when Microsoft or Razer announce products with Skylake chips nobody complains.
I thought that one of the beautiful things about MAC software design was its ability to run optimally with less processor demand relative to other software makers.

Actually, I'd like a new iPhone that can connect to a monitor or two, and a keyboard and mouse, and runs MacOS X in that configuration - so every iPhone customer would have a desktop machine practically for free. iPhone 5se, 6 and 7 are easily powerful enough for that.

Which is exactly what worries me. "Hello" was used for the 1984 Mac and the iMac. Those were both seismic events for Apple. To use it for a MBP refresh is very, very lame.

So I'm hoping that they're actually going to relaunch their whole line. Is it possible they could have developed a new line of Macs (minis, iMacs, Mac Pros) either within their campus labs, or at an undisclosed location, to ensure there were no leaks? We heard about all those silly secret Titan factories... could they have been Mac labs?

If they've used "Hello" today for a mere laptop refresh, that is going to show they really don't even understand their own branding and legacy.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I am curious about the stuff happening at the brick and mortar Apple Stores. Hoping they do release something truly revolutionary or else I'll be bummed.

Not really, because the combination of the hardware inside the Apple pencil itself + the hardware inside the iPad Pro models blows away any previous stylus that I've used for digital input…and that includes Wacom Cintiq. That's innovative. Just putting out a stylus that was simply "okay" or "pretty good" but worked with any device is what the standard already was for iOS stylus products.

Its been 2 years since the Mini update, and 3 for the Mac Pro, both of those machines are in dire need of an update

Well the Pro was in dire need of NOT BEING TOUCHED in the first place. After using one for a pretty intensive project over a 3 week period it was totally unreliable compared to the iMac I was on. Dustbin was a pretty good design choice.

I don't know what else they can do to the Mini? Fit a hamster wheel in there? Surely they can't make it worse.

You don't see anything innovative in Apple's use of so many different types of specialized chips for their products these days? The W1 chip that makes bluetooth waaaaaay better than it's supposed to be for wireless is significant. They're creating more and more products that simply can't be equaled by companies that just pull standardized hardware off-the-shelf.

Prepare to be disappointed.

They will announce two, MAYBE three things, spend an hour on "filler" speeches no one wants to hear, then leave the rest of the product line to rot.

Apple's too entrenched in their traditions to so much as raise an eyebrow anymore...

(Full disclaimer: I really hope I'm wrong.)
Totally agree - has been an Apple fan and used the it professional since the Ibook clamshell back in the days.....it makes you think when a PC can be maxed out for close to 50% off ans there is no BS - since (in my case) Adobe runs on both platforms, if there is no Retina with max performance I regrettably will leave the Mac line.

Apple has no VR, they have not unlocked that "fantastic pencil" to work across all devices, they have no enterprise solutions that are truly interesting to most businesses, they are locked out of business accounting in any significant way... They just don't seem to have the steak to go with the sizzle these days.
You simply said:"they have no vision."

It's sad that your older devices don't contain the hardware to accommodate a pencil that didn't exist when they were made? Is that your complaint? Am I reading that right?

I won't wonder if Apple will upgrade the price of those outdated maca that apple haven't mentioned.
