Anyone know about the 'Keep Messages' setting in regards to the iPad? Like if I set my iPad to delete messages after 30 days would it also delete those messages from my iPhone?

My iPad only has 16GB of space and I noticed 1.5GB is taken up by saved messages. I don't mind the messages being saved on my iPhone since it's a 32GB.
 
Keyboard issue

I have read through the bugs and issues and can't seem to find the answer. So sorry in advance if it's been asked.
Since upgrading to IOS8, I'm having problems with the keyboard ignoring or not registering some letters. The worse are A U N D and spacebar. As well as changing from letters to numbers.
If I type really slow and make sure I press quite hard they work but sometimes double up the entry.
I've tried with screen protector, without it etc. I have been using my Air since June with a protector and in the survivor case with no issues, now it is occurring regularly and it really frustrating.
Is there a known issue or is it just my iPad has gone weird?

Does this happen the same way with the keyboard in different orientations?
Any apps overly active in "Settings/General/Usage/Battery Usage"?
Did you try a restart?
 
Hi, thank you 🙂 I have restarted it, as well as on/off with home key. Is the same.
I have tried split keyboard, slightly better but A and numbers key is still sticking.
In landscape the problem appears to be the same.
Ill have a look at the apps in the background when I have the iPad with me.

iTunes iPhone 5 sync error - video corruption

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as the videos are not able to be resourced...

I was syncing my iTunes with my iPhone 5 and upgrading at the same time. Unfortunately there was not enough space on my phone so the download & the syncing crashed part way through. I thought that wasn't a problem except when I went to look at my videos which are now still images - can anyone suggest anyway of retrieving the video??? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I have had the phone call issue and battery problems recently which I understand is all part of the latest download - I have not found anyone else with a video issue...
 
Please help me understand something ... in iOS 8, did Apple try to force you to send an iMessage & fall back to sending an SMS only if the recipient is not logged in to Messages?

I do not have an iPhone & have limited time to test it out. But, I am trying to help a family member (running iOS 8) who can no longer text another family member (running iOS 7; refused to upgrade). error: "Message not delivered."

I looked in settings for Messages ... IIRC all I could do was activate an option to send SMS as a backup.


Considering iMessages are global & free, I don't mind. Just seems odd to shove it down users' throats.

Audio button in message

When I select message, I will see a camera icon on left and audio icon on right and the txtt message field is blank.

Once, I enter the person I like to send the message to, the audio icon goes away and I get "send". I tried to use finger on right and hold it there for
few seconds, I just do not see the audio button or screen.

Both of the phones are runing ios8. Is there a place I need to check so that
I can get this audio button so that I can send a voice message.

Is the send button showing blue for iMessage? If not, and it's showing green, that's why.
 
IOS 8 and Shortcuts LOST

I installed IOS 8 this morning while getting ready for work and on CNBC at the same time they were commenting on how bad IOS 8 was - and i was too late, i couldn't stop it. Sure enough when I went to type a text, NONE of my shortcuts that I have input over the last 4 years were there! Anyone know how to get them back? I called Verizon and they checked with Apple Support and ASupport came back and said "Shortcuts get wiped out with this IOS 8 - no idea how to recover". BUMMER>>>>I probably will be getting a Galaxy on my next upgrade in December...Help anyone??

Your shortcuts gets synced with iCloud. Check the Text tab in your OS X Keyboard preferences.
 
I got my 6 yesterday and did a backup to iCloud on my old 4s and iPad that are both still on iOS 7. I double checked before activating the new phone and everything looked good. While setting up the new phone, I inadvertently upgraded to iCloud Drive despite knowing better) and now I am missing all photos from 2010-mid 2012 from iPhoto, as well certain time periods kind of randomly (like a week here, a month there- starting in 2013). The photos also appear to be missing from my 6. They are all still on both the 4s and iPad.

I don't think it has anything to do with the removal of "My Photos," but I could be wrong (my old 4s shows that I have ~3300 photos and the 6 has ~600). Any suggestions? Will this remedy itself when drive is fully functional? The major chunk missing is the first two years of my daughter's life 🙁
 
When using iTunes match with iOS 7, if I turned off Wi-Fi, my cloud music would disappear and only my downloaded music would appear. Is it possible to do this with iOS 8?

Well, I'm just answering the question you asked.

When you turn off wifi the songs gray out. That's it.

If you want to hide them turn off Show All Music in the settings.
 
Is occasional keyboard input lagginess a known issue with iOS 8? I have a 5S, and it was really frustrating at times, but other times no problem. Installed SwiftKey and haven't had any problems at all but I hate having to convert back to the apple keyboard to get dictation. And I don't like using 3rd party keyboards. I just upgraded to 8.0.2 and its still an issue.
 
How come the turn by turn directions voice on the maps app does not interrupt the radio in my car anymore? I only hear it when I change the radio to the bluetooth setting. There used to be an option for HFP on my iphone 5S in the map app. I can't find that option on my 6.
 
Fixed!

Thanks to those who replied to try to help me. I rolled the dice and accepted the invite to download 8.02 this morning and my shortcuts are ALL BACK!! I didn't have a chance to try the fixes suggested from this blog but appreciate the effort though. Maybe I will still be an Apple user when my upgrade comes up at Verizon....Peace.😀

I haven't tried this but in theory I believe It would show the name of the conversation if it is named. I'm curious about this myself.

Well.... It's only the sender name. That was one of the first thing a I looked at when I downloaded ios 8. It sucks.

Am I right in thinking that at the moment there isn't a way to view my icloud photo library (beta) photos on my laptop and that the only real purpose to using this is for backup purposes?

Another dumb question...

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their new iPhones. I got the gold 64 gig 6+.

Here's my "dumb" question:
When my boyfriend got his new 6+ he did not back up to the computer. 😱
He relied upon the AT&T transfer app and the latest back up to the cloud from his phone.


He only got about 100 of his pictures -out of over 1000.

He had to go to the Apple Store and they reset his phone. Then they worked some vodoo on it for him to get all of his pictures. Last night all of his pictures finished downloading from the cloud.

Come today he is no longer able to send any pictures attached to a text message.
When he is in the message app he will click on the camera symbol and when he clicks on "attach picture" or "take a picture" it sends him right back to his homepage.

Now, if he has the picture itself pulled up he will be able to send it out that way.

As for attaching a picture to a message that is a no go.

He was able to do it until the Apple guy reset the phone and restarted the iCloud download for him to receive all of his pictures that were saved in the cloud.

All that time he was working with the original operating system that came with the 6+. Just today he downloaded the 8.0.2 operating system hoping it would fix the image glitching. It has not.

Has anybody heard of this issue so far? Has anybody gone through this yet? Does it resolve itself or will he need to go back to the Genius Bar?

On ios 8 in safari, turn to landscape and select the option to view/close all open webpages. While on this screen pinch to zoom out and slide left to see a larger window, blank webpage that is not accessible. What is this and why is it there? Is there a way to close it?
 
Is there an easy way to use all my contacts Facebook profile pictures when they call? I saw something updating the contacts in the Facebook settings (or something similar, can't remember).

If i do this, it won't delete all their numbers or something stupid will it?
