11 should have been the damn phone with 6GB RAM. Can see this being as bad as the 6 eventually with it's stingy RAM amount.

I don't understand why a supposed SE 2 has taken so long to get out there, and now it misses Christmas. Unless it has some wonder feature that we don't know about yet.
Because it would be dumb to release another iPhone at lower prices so Quickly after releasing 3 new phones is September.

How trustworthy are "analysts" that doesn't even know, that the successor of the iPhone 11 will be named iPhone 11s.

More important would be the issue, that more RAM consumes more power. Every time, no matter if it's used or not.

On the other hand: Apple is powering up their iPads to become a notebook replacement very soon. To handle big files, you will need more RAM. So it's no clairvoyance, to know, that future iPads (Pro) will get 8 or more GBytes of RAM.

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read in a long time.

A 3gb ram chip vs 6 would use no more power. We’re not talking about sticks of memory , its a single memory module.

Regardless , ram gets more power efficient as it moves up in speed due to increase in fab technology.

Even if it was multiple chips , replace it them with higher capacity does not increase power usage....its like saying 32gb of ram uses less power than 64gb.....

That 6GB RAM is most definitely needed and welcomed! I actually wish the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max would come with 8GB RAM and leave the 12 with 6GB RAM, but 6GB RAM will be appreciated if it’s across all the 12 series, an upgrade is an upgrade.

Stop. Obssesing. Over. A. Stupid. Name.

It can't bother you THIS MUCH, can it now?

thank you. It annoys me how obsessed people are regarding it

The iPhone Classic (SE2), will not likely have wireless charging either. That is why it is not an “8S” model. To keep the price at $399 it will likely be all aluminum more similar to the iPhone 7. The biggest selling point will be an A13 phone at $399. If it has 64GB in the base model, most who buy this phone will likely go with that. The camera will likely be the same as the iPhone XR. So one gets
A13
3GB RAM
64GB storage
Single lens (XR) camera
4.7 inch LCD Retina display
TouchID
All aluminum (no wireless charging)

Not bad for $399. Likely soon discounted to $349 by big retailers. If it does get wireless charging, that makes it even a better value.

and how would you know this. Proof of no wireless charging??. Any source

besides original SE had everything the 5s had but better so I expect this model to have almost everything the 8 has (except 3D touch) and better

also to one of the posts which thinks the SE2 will replace the 8 plus and not the 8....seriously

when the SE was on sale 5s was discontinued. What makes you think this 4.7 inch model won’t replace the 8 but the 8 plus

Yep 6GB and USB-C as it is a Pro device and is supposed to be the best of what Apple has to offer. iPad Pro has USB-C on both ends, why not iPhone Pro. Even MBP has USB-C on both ends. The 11 Pro is a stop gap for the real pro iPhone in 2020. ;)

What problem are you having on your iPhone that more RAM will solve? Switching rapidly between several different apps for a contrived video? Come on, get real.

You’re seriously citing the Galaxy Fold as an example of a good Android phone? 😂 Oh man, that is some good trolling.

That's an example and yet you still don't understand the issue.

As much as this would stink since people like me have so many lightning cords at home and at work, it only makes sense to do this now and get it over with. One cord for all...just like how you can use any wireless charger with any brand phone.
But it’s only one cable if you’ve got the latest iPad Pro (or no iPad at all) and a relatively new MacBook Pro. Otherwise you still need a Lightning cable.

The USB-C iPad Pro has very likely sold fewer than 10 million units, while there are upwards of 1.5 billion devices that still use Lightning. So it doesn’t really make sense to dump Lightning yet, imo.

Uniformity across products. Ridiculous I need two cables to charge my iPhone and iPad.
Sure it would be great for you and the other 10 million who have the latest iPad Pro. But there are at least 4-5 billion total USB-A chargers, Lightning cables and Lightning iOS devices in use.

I agree. Maybe not the original 11 due to having less screen resolution than 1080p, less pixels on screen and having dual cameras as opposed to tri camera setup but definitely the pro models should of have had 6GB, especially because of the tri camera setup

I don’t see it as bad as the 6. Luckily the A13 has decent performance than the A12 compared to the A8/A7 where the difference is Minor, more minor than any other A class comparison

With that form factor I don’t expect it to be a battery champ unless they make it thicker. We’re still at the lithium ion stage of technology. Solid state Batteries are not going to become prominent for probably another 5 years.

It isn't though! It's a budget phone. I wouldn't be surprised if it's called just "SE" once again.
Yes, there are many similarities with the SE: off-season intro, $399 pricing, re-using older design, latest processor, smallest available display, etc. It’s perfectly fine for Ming-Chi Kuo to call it SE2, for all those reasons.

Personally, my guess is Apple will call it iPhone SR but they could call it SE2 and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I think just “SE” would be confusing, though. 8S and 9 make it sound ancient; if it has a model generation name it’ll be an 11 “something”. 11SE?

iPhone 6S size and weight and headphone jack, OLED from top to bottom, and finger print sensor on the side please.

Or open up iOS to be able to run on 3rd party phones. Tired of Apple phone hardware...

Making the iPhone 11 Pro Max the iPhone 6 of this generation considering the ram management issues with it.

The current Ram Management issues are iOS 13 driven. Not the 11 Pro Max having 4gb of ram. ;)

Intel or QC modem for the SE2?

Intel

Android smartphones can support up to 12gb of RAM while iPhone 11 Pro has 4gb of RAM.

What's the issue?

iPhone tends to refresh apps too often. Closing all apps does not solve the issue. It's not about the performance. This is why Apple need to increase the amount of RAM and yet they are so lazy about adding more RAM.

No, Apple needs to completely rewrite their internal structures for iOS development. Oh, wait, they just announced that. Don’t lay it on the hardware. iOS 13 is a pig. Put lipstick on it and it’s still a pig with lipstick.:apple:

You’re batting zero. It’s rumored to be an 8 with an A13. So thicker/heavier than the 6S, no headphone jack, LCD, plenty of top/bottom bezel and TouchID on the home button. Some assume it’ll have glass back/wireless charging, while others think aluminum back/no Qi. Glass is an expensive repair, personally I lean toward aluminum back but who knows?

Also, zero chance of Apple licensing iOS to third parties. It’s a huge competitive advantage for Apple, just like their A-series SoC and other hardware like FaceID. Hardware advantage + software advantage = major win for Apple. (Of course there are a lot of other advantages as well.)

I feel the same way. I love USB-C, but Lightning is just a superior connector. I mean physically of course. In all other respects I prefer USB-C, but Lighting is smaller and sturdier. Just compare the connectors side by side.

I’m sure USB-C would not survive on the floor of my car as well as Lightning connectors do.

Please don't switch to USB C. There is no benefit at all and the cables are expensive as hell.

Damn... how much do USB-C cables cost? Did Monster Cables start selling them? :p

Even the most "expensive" cables don't cost anywhere close to $700-$1,500 phones that they plug into...

Comparing to the numerous lightning cable that I have over the years, switching to USB C is unnecessarily expensive.

I don’t have any need for USB-C, so I’m with you on this. I have a lot of investment with lightning cables, accessories, and having lightning universal with my AirPods, iPod, iPhone, even my iPads are all lightning, I just don’t have any use for USB-C. However, I suspect that the iPhone SE 2 for 2020 will probably be lightning enabled, and if there are any USB-C transitions, it probably would only be for the next Gen ‘iPhone 12’.

Apple needed the bump in RAM since a smaller Notch isn’t much along side 5G as an upgrade to make it worthy enough.

Trust me if they could have gotten away with just 5GB of RAM they would have.

Whenever anyone says, “trust me” I think “Why should I? Give me one good reason”.

Is there a technical benefit to doing so? Is there some functionality they cannot provide with lightning but can with USB-C?
Having the cable not shred itself to death under normal usage. Also charging an iPhone from another iPhone, lol. I don't care that much, just want a headphone jack and will instantly buy the SE if it has it.

Who cares if the phone has USB-C or not?

You already get a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box so the argument that the iPhone needs USB-C because Macs have USB-C is incorrect, since you can connect them to your Mac from day one without buying any dongles or different cables.
It's just annoying that we still have different connectors. Everyone's patience for dongles has run out, so now that there's finally the chosen cable, we want everything that's not it to die. And until USB-C is fully adopted, I'm holding onto my 2015 MBP because it doesn't need dongles.

If Apple decided to get rid of the numbering, they could possibly call it iPhone Air
