I'll be honest, I could barely understand a word of what you just said.

  • Difficult to use at work
  • The phone was so big that it was too heavy in his front pocket
  • Doesn't want to get it stolen if he put it in his back pocket as the phone is bigger and easier to steal
  • Doesn't want to wear a belt / holster type accessory to hold the phone
  • He likes that there are better features on the plus but he found himself leaving it behind as he prefers his 6s
  • Conclusion: Order a Plus and see how you get on, if you don't like it; go back to the old one :)

Say whataat?! lol. Dude are you for real?
I don't get why people think it's such a burden and a huge huge tablet sized thing in your pants. It's a non issue but I guess I've never had problems these people do.

It's a really tough decision.

The plus is clearly the better phone. 1080p, more screen real estate, better battery life, better software and a better camera.

The problem is Apple hasn't reduced the bezels yet and the plus size is uncomfortable for a certain group. That group is anyone that wants/needs to use their phone one handed. If you give in and use the phone two handed then IMO it solves all the dilemmas and problems and arguments.

So the question comes down to this: are you willing to give up (comfortable) one handed usage in order to get a better phone (additional features)?

I've had the plus several times and have always came back to the regular size. But I STILL want the 7+. One of my main reasons was the plus battery life. Although, it's nice to see apple has closed that gap.

The other reason is that I use my phone for everything. For personal use I don't use my computer or my tablet. For this use it makes sense to get the bigger screen and productivity related software features.

I do enjoy using my phone handed a lot though. Maybe it's a good thing I wasn't able to pre order. Now I have until the 17th to decide. Spoiler alert: that still won't be enough time.

Honestly went with the 7 instead of the Plus this year because although it's nice to have a big screen (the camera doesn't really make a massive difference for me, but I did take some really good photos and videos in Tokyo), I decided that the 7 is just way more convinient to use. Especially whilst working, , commuting and going out.

Seems to be the perfect device if I could lay in bed all day though :p

Better software?

And you could argue that both models have the same camera quality - the Plus model just has an extra camera (without OIS). The fake bokeh is added via software and could probably be added to the regular iPhone 7 if they wanted to. I bet you can get similar results from apps. I guess time will tell. That being said I really wanted the second camera in the regular iPhone 7 as well.

More screen real estate and better battery are valid points though.

Extra 1 gb of RAM also on the bigger model.
So overall, better screen, better camera (2x optical zoom is a pretty good feature actually. On par with OIS in 6 plus vs regular 6), noticeably better battery life, and extra gig of RAM vs bigger size. I bought the 6 plus because the regular 6 wasn't as one handed friendly as the 5 anyway, so I went for the best camera and display. The same goes for this year (With the added benefit of extra RAM, which I think is big).

After pre-ordering the regular 7 yesterday, I today pre-ordered a Plus, too. Won't arrive 'til mid October, but now I can compare and sell the one I like less.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I'll go with the 7. I absolutely love the huge screen (don't really care for the camera, though), but I simply do not want to give up 1-hand-capability and the possibility to slip it into small pockets.

When I say better software I basically am talking about the two pane apps. It's an advantage. Some might not use it.

Ahhh such a tough decision!

I went with the 7 plus for the better camera, better screen, longer lasting battery and extra Ram which should make it faster. One handed use is nice with the 4.7" but the plus is manageable and just felt all the positives outweigh the one advantage of the 4.7" which is one handed use and ok I'll throw in portability also.

I liked the old days when Apple only made one phone size and "told" us which phone we're buying. :p

Can't recall if I posted in this specific 7 vs. 7 Plus thread, so I'll share anyway. Two years ago, when I jumped from the 5 to the 6, it felt ENORMOUS. After two years of the 6 and 6S, it feels normal - if not small - in my hand. I was really, really hoping for some major visual changes to the 7 series but we didn't quite get that. That's the reason I first started to consider getting the 7+ - going from a 6S to a 7+ would certainly create that change I was craving.

Before I committed to the Plus, I went to the VZW store and compared my 6S to the larger model. Honestly...after having a 6 and 6S for two years, the 6S Plus realllllly didn't feel that much bigger. In fact, it felt kinda nice. The extra keyboard real estate felt great, screen size was super easy on the eyes. I'm not mad about the additional battery life and I certainly won't be mad about the 1080p screen res. And, of course, the camera is a massive perk. I document my entire life through pictures on Instagram. I've also taken to offloading my pictures every few months and creating digital albums kinda like my parents had done for us when we were little, just with physical pictures. Haha. So, the upgraded camera is really valuable to me.

Worst case scenario, on the slim chance that I HATE it, I have it for a year. I swap it out next year for a smaller model. Or, if I'm that desperate, I sell it and grab a 7. I don't think it will come to that, though - the pluses significantly outweigh the negatives here. No pun intended. :)

EDIT: In regards to one-handing it, I'm not really able to efficiently one-hand my 6S right now so that isn't something I will miss. It's not an application I use very often.

No it won't. Apple added the extra ram this year to the larger phone to put its performance back on par with the 4.7 model. The 6+ and 6s+ had noticeable screen lag when compared to the smaller screen iPhones. The Geekbench scores are out on both new iPhones and the 7 4.7 is still slightly faster even with less ram. The extra ram is just there to help with screen real estate.

It's pushing a bigger screen and processing dual images. If anything, benchmark leaks suggest that 3GB is not enough for it to catch up entirely to the smaller model in terms of performance.

OK fine. The other positives of the plus still outweigh the regular 7 IMO.

I had the iPhone 6 and thought it the ideal size. When the 6s was released I jumped up to the Plus size, primarily for the battery and OIS camera. I'm still using it now and will continue to do so until next year when the iPhone 8 comes out. I'm dropping back to the non-Plus size with my next purchase. As nice as the large screen is - and it's VERY nice - it makes the phone just too big for easy one-handed use.

My preference: the regular iPhone 7 and NOT the Plus.

I've had the 6+ for two years now and have decided to switch to the 7. I am tired of having to take it out of my pocket to sit down and the general bulk of the device is a turn off. That's not to say it hasn't been a great phone, but I have come to realize something slightly more portalable fits my lifestyle better.

Y'all aren't making this easy. I'm always decided for sure. Then I always think about the use cases for me. I seriously need a phone that can be used one handed comfortably a lot of the times and then another phone that I can use for reading and watching videos and has amazing battery life. When are we getting stretchable displays again?

I'm on a 6s+ and will be downsizing to the 7.

I've gotten used to handling the 6s+, but have never been comfortable with the size. I hate to say it, but it truly is the size of the bezels -- they are much too large. Yes, they fit in most pockets, but they also protrude out of a lot of them. And like most people, I need to take the phone out of my pocket when sitting down. (No, I don't wear cargo pants, and have no desire to do so)

The upgraded cameras on the pluses are nice benefits, but the biggest benefit on the plus for me is the significantly better battery life. The +2 longer battery life on the 7 vs the 6s seems like a worthy enough improvement. I'm willing to trade away the "tele" camera (which really isn't even a tele lens strictly speaking) on the 7+ to gain back pocket space, one handed use, all the things I do to accommodate the phone. Really, it should be the reverse: instead of trying to fit my life around the phone, the phone should fit into my life.

I have a 6S plus now and my only comment will be about ram as that comes up a lot.

Going back for the 6 Plus. When I had that ram was an issue. Safari reloads all the time especially with multiple tabs.

Fast forward to the 6S/ 6S Plus and for everyone as far as I know. That is no longer an issue. Definitely not an issue for me.

More is definitely nice in terms of ram, but if it's not utilized. It's just a number.

Many devs didn't even update to make full use of the 6/6S plus yet. For system, sure it can make things more fluid but 7 should run better or equal at worse to 6 which rins great on iOS 10. Moot point in that area for me.

I have an iPad mini retina. Maybe I should just use that when I want a bigger screen. Hmm. The camera on the 7 will be plenty for me as I'm not a huge photo person. iPhone cameras have been more than enough for me for a long time now. Also my iPhone battery will be since I'll be using the mini for some things......but then I have to charge and carry two devices......#FirstWorldProblems

Edit: performance isn't great on this mini either. And no Touch ID.

The only problem is going into a pocket as I see it. With the plus.

Everything else, even though I have never owned a plus, I would like I think. I do like it in my hands when I'm lounging.

I actually started a thread asking if the 56mm lens had OIS, people said it does. Where did you hear otherwise?

The 56mm being a 2.8 is a bummer, and the shallow depth of field feature is too fake looking; a gimmick imo.

Better software?

Ming-Chi Kuo in his investors note issued on Friday mentioned that the OIS is only on the 28mm. We'll have to wait for the tear down to see of course.

http://iphone.appleinsider.com/arti...amera-to-remain-iphone-plus-exclusive-in-2017
[doublepost=1473538777][/doublepost]from a manufacturing standpoint, it makes sense that the 28mm would have OIS since it already had it in previous iterations. From a photographic standpoint, it makes less sense to put OIS on the wide and not the tele, it should be reversed

Right I just saw that too. The longer lens is the one that needs OIS more, and when you combine that with an aperture that is 1 1/3 stops slower, well, that camera is going to suck when the light drops, and pretty ununable for video.

I carry my plus in a somewhat bulky case(tech 21) it fits fine in jeans, khakis and the like. Getting it out in the car is somewhat tough, though I just get it out before I get in.

This is the biggest problem (for me) with a Plus iPhone, sitting down with the phone in your jeans pocket. You have to remember to take it out all of the time before you sit down. Walking around is not an issue.
