I picked up a new Toyota Corolla Hybrid on Friday and from what I can tell, the niggles on my Pioneer (black screen and track skipping) have all gone away.

I am stuck on 8.28 though and and OTA says it's still the latest update. Am I right from above though that some people are being offered a new one, even though it's essentially a downgrade the 8.04?

No. 2020.08.28 can not be upgraded or downgraded. The downgrade released was for 2020.08.22 users (I guess technically anyone that could not get 08.28 to install actually).

I'm sure this is what you meant, but just for clarity, it's 08.27 that can't be up/downgraded (it's a Joyeauto firmware). 08.22 and 08.29+ versions are the ones meant for Carlinkit/Carplay2Air. There is no 08.28 firmware AFAIK.

It's 08.27, but everyone calls it 08.28 since it was released that day. I usually call it the build date but slipped on that.

@bookemdano do you have the 8-27-20 joyeauto firmware you can post on here?

Yes that’s what happens with Radio frequency interference. But this is also an issue with units that come with wireless CarPlay built-in also. I have 3 cars with Alpine ILX-107 with built in wireless carplay and they all do that at a couple spots on my drive from home.

What firmware are you on? On firmware 8-22-20 to 9-3-20 it keeps trying auto connect after a shutdown. It sometimes takes a minute or so once you pass the area.

In manual firmware update 9-4-20 they removed The auto connect feature.
Thanks. I am running the last OTA before 8.22. Think that was 8.10? I also think I many have meant to report my interference crash to @bookemdano ? I mix you guys up because you are both so helpful. Background, I reported that I never experience an interference hard crash and thought it was a GM thing. @bookemdano I beleive said he had a ford.

Murphy's law, when traveling to new parts of MA recently, I crashed hard and could not get the device going until after I played 18 holes and restarted the car. When it crashed, the wifi connection to it reported "low data mode" in yellow. I was curious if the interference crashes some of you experienced were similar.

Hi, I tried to read anything about the bricked devices with only the blue LED is on.
I have seen that the support knows about the workaround with the working adapter,
that they want to verify it and maybe build a page to trigger the update and bring bricked devices back to life.
Ist there anything new about this?

If I am not mistaken 2020.08.22 was an OTA release. 2020.08.27 never was released OTA, so only those downloading from carlinkit's internal repository and manually updating firmware had a chance to be stuck with 2020.08.27. Most people never even knew 2020.08.27 existed. Brave souls here walk the edge and report back on each internal (i.e. 2020.08.27) and public external (i.e. 2020.08.22) firmware release.

Even if you prefer manually updating it is still obviously riskier to do so with firmware that never makes it to an OTA release. The company at least seems to offer options, downgrade or upgrade paths for those that get hit with widespread issues from firmware they decide is good enough for an OTA release.

So, so I'm clear, is there an OTA firmware available for Carlinkit beyond 8-27? That's what my Carlinkit updated to and it cannot be manually updated or downgraded and never sees any OTA updates.

Does Anyone know if it's supposed to continuously flash green when it's working (or is it supposed to be a solid green)?
Also, how is your phone battery life with the carlinkit? My battery went from 72% to 66% after a 30ish minute drive (is that normal?)

My experience so far:
RAV4 2020, Iphone SE 2020, Carlinkit 2.0

Upgraded to the latest firmware in Kevin Grabher's Repository this afternoon (Sep 7 2020).
To upgrade the firmware, I plugged it in a wall outlet, and after about 30 seconds, I plugged in the USB key with the image on it. It worked.
The new firmware seems good.

But I have noticed a few things:

- If I'm on the main page of carplay (were you can see the music that is playing and the gps at the same time) it crashes after about 5-6 minutes. You can see the gps jumping forward and backward a lot when it's working, then it crashes. (this was happening with other firmwares too...)

- If I'm on the main page of my music app (youtube music) it rarely crashes, only a few skips (<1 second skips, barely noticable, twice in my 30 minute drive).

I would imagine there is a bug related to displaying the GPS on the screen...

I also asked a question about the crashes on amazon and someone said to try disabling auto join to the wifi on the iPhone. Will try next time i go out...

It is supposed to continuously flash green when properly connected.

Check for firmware updates for the dongle, while connected use Safari to go to 192.168.50.2 and verify if it needs an update or not.

The dongle is just a CarPlay projection device, GPS is provided from your phone. I would say that you are likely on older firmware on the dongle.

If you disable auto join then CarPlay likely won't work like you expect when using the dongle.

Thanks for the answer Jim :)

I agree turning off auto-join didn't sound right (it also didn't work hehe).

My firmware version is: VER:2020.09.03.1437

Also noticed that when i take a screenshot on my iphone while connected to the dongle, it takes 2 screenshots (One for the phone, the other for the carplay display).

NINJA EDIT: Just realized I don't have maps installed, only google maps. Will try again later with apple maps...

Sure thing.

Well, that firmware looks pretty new to me, or at least newer than what I can seem to get on my Carlinkit 2.0.

The screenshot thing, "this is the way," even for wired CarPlay. Has proven useful for me many times.

I tried to manually install 8.27. Thankfully it didn’t take.

I'm still wondering why some people could update to it and some could not, even when using the same image file.

My hunch is that it has to do with what firmware your adapter was on previously. I think Carlinkit programmed a block in most recent (late summer) firmware versions to prevent flashing JoyeAuto firmware. The adapter LEDs blink like a normal flash is occurring but ultimately a check is done and the firmware does not get applied.

Those of us unfortunate enough to have had a successful flash of 08.27 were probably on firmware that didn't have that check (in my case I'm pretty sure I was on 08.04). I'm just lucky that 08.27 happens to be one of the fastest and most stable firmwares I've tried--otherwise I'd be royally pissed. Carlinkit needs to come up with a fix so people can flash back to the Carlinkit firmware. If you installed 08.27 then you should definitely get in touch with their support and let them know you can't up/downgrade.

I think the whole 08.27-Update troubles is a bug, not intended behavior.
I feel like the whole JoyeAuto-Theory would be overly complicated. Even if they wanted the devices to use different firmwares (which I don't think they do, because why would they, they don't even have their brand on the interface), I think they'd just use different directories on their server. (And if it were to be believed that JoyeAuto does their own development it wouldn't be on the same server at all).

Same, I actually tried a few times. Got to be a hardware/fw block of some sort for foreign code. Mine is a USB-C, maybe the successful people were using the USB-A's.

My device is USB-C and it was version 08.22 and I successfully updated to version 08.27.

Yeah mine is also USB-C. And someone said a page or two back that they successfully flashed both a USB-A and USB-C adapter to 08.27. So who knows at this point.

I have Joyeauto "own" 03.19 firmware (4.89MB) downloaded from their website. I'm about to try to downgrade to see if I can return to the Carlinkit firmware later.

I am afraid to leave it useless and as they have said version 08.27 is also good for me.
