The screen popped off my original Apple Watch Sport and it was replaced with a Series 1 for free after my AppleCare had expired. I was pretty happy with the result mostly because I assumed I would've been SOL once my warranty was gone.

Product has issue, company fixes issue, and provides warranty for issue.

It’s always amazing to see the curious standards by which people hold Apple and not their elected representatives but I digress... ;)

I'm also really hard on my Apple Watch. I bang it on things constantly and never get cracks or scratches. I really don't feel like they're all that easy to break in normal circumstances.

I have a S2 Sport Nike+, banged it into every guardrail, handrail, and door handle known to man.... no glass cracks, chips, scratches, or screen protector. I have a few nicks on the body but that’s it. It’s built like a tank.

My screen on my wifes original Apple Watch popped off. Apple said it was from the battery swelling. They replaced it in store and long after the warranty was up.

My original series hasn't had any issues.

I can only imagine how much more innovating and investing Apple could do if they weren’t subjected to lawsuits every other minute

Nah, this lawsuit has nothing to do with Apple or the watch. It's just fashionable to vent your frustrations through the vehicle of the law, these days. Someone steps on your toe, sue them, and pick up some cash.

No issue with my Series 0 or Series 3 or anyone I know has had this issue. Both of mine are stainless steel models. Neither of them had the battery swell either and I live in Arizona. So um should I feel left out? o_O

I wonder if the issue some people had with watch not fully charging overnight and feeling warm in the morning is related. Or maybe the tolerances are too tight on some watches? If pressure builds up inside the watch along with heat is there a one way valve to allow that to escape without allowing water in? Is that even possible? I live in San Antonio Texas and all we have is heat and humidity. I’ve been holding off for prices to drop and Walmart has series 1 for $149, been very tempted.
Edit- ugh to another lawsuit.

A new class action lawsuit filed against Apple this week alleges that all Apple Watch models suffer from a defect that causes the display to "crack, shatter, or detach from the body of the watch, through no fault of the wearer."

The proposed class is all current and former owners of all models, sizes, and variants of the Apple Watch, including the original, Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 generations, purchased in the United States between April 2015 and present, according to court documents obtained by MacRumors.

The complaint, filed in Northern California district court, alleges that Apple has sold millions of watches with the defect throughout the United States, and "either knew, or should have known," about the display issues. Apple is said to have "actively concealed" and "failed to disclose" the defect to customers.

The complaint adds that Apple's internal policy is to "deny the existence of the defect, claim the defect is the result of accidental damage caused by consumers, and then refuse to honor its limited warranty on those grounds," resulting in customers facing expensive fees to repair or replace their defective watches.

Apple Watch out-of-warranty service fees range from $229 to $329 in the United States, excluding high-end Edition models.

The lawsuit was brought against Apple by Colorado resident Kenneth Sciacca, who purchased an Apple Watch Series 2 in December 2016. In or around March 2018, the screen on Sciacca's watch is said to have "unexpectedly detached from the watch's body shortly after he removed the watch from its charger."

The complaint cites a handful of comments from the Apple Support Communities, and similar complaints can be found scattered across the MacRumors forums, Reddit, Twitter, and other discussion platforms.

Apple has acknowledged issues with swollen batteries in select original and Series 2 models, which can cause the display to pop off, and offered free repairs up to three years after purchase, according to internal guidelines previously obtained by MacRumors. However, the complaint alleges that Apple refuses to extend the free repairs to watches with detached displays but no swollen battery.

Apple is accused of unlawful business acts and practices, in violation of California's Business and Professions Code, in addition to violating California's Consumers Legal Remedies Act and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, breaching express and implied warranties, and unjust enrichment.

The complaint is seeking damages to fully compensate affected Apple Watch owners for all losses sustained as a result of the alleged defect, plus further relief as seen fit by the court. A jury trial has been demanded.

this happened to me less than a year after I purchased the Apple Watch series 2 in April of 2017 and in February 2018 I was watching TV and stood up and I felt something from my wrist then heard a clink on my tile floor and it was the watch face, I contacted Apple and they had me send it in, then they said that I cracked the face and it was my fault, after a few hours of talking to support I explained that it just popped off, hit my tile floor, crack the piece, finally they approved of the repair/replace, I still don't know if it was a new watch or a refurbished one since mine didn't come back since the serial number was different, but I know if you complain and hang in there long enough to get to the right person they will do what is right, but this is not a few people, there are complaints all over the net....

Guess the lawyers want a cut..I’m sure the few folks that this happened had them replaced or upgraded by Apple already..I can only imagine how much more innovating and investing Apple could do if they weren’t subjected to lawsuits every other minute..
Wrong. There is a problem here that Apple fanbois are denying strongly.

Based on what? The numbers don't support your statement. People are buying products in record numbers and say they are satisfied in record numbers.

When you sell hundreds of millions of products, there will be problems with a relatively small number. Apple takes cares of their customers.
Wrong. They didn’t take care of me. Watch face cracked after two months and it’s now a brick.
[doublepost=1528410332][/doublepost]I
Nearly all customers are happy, just look at the satisfaction results. A small number of issues are going to occur when you have millions of customers let’s not blow this out of proportion here, yea we are on Macrumours and i know a lot of people like to bash Apple and claim they are doomed or they are no longer invested in things like the Mac and blah blah blah....but this really isn’t a major issue.

Your one person, not being funny but most people are happy so maybe it’s you who’s in the bubble.
If there are only a small minority with defective devices, shouldn’t Apple just quietly fix them at minimal cost?

No issues with the countless people I know who own them.

Spent more than 2 weeks in the remote jungles of Honduras, in +95º heat and near 100% humidity every day, working outside in the sun. Never had an issue. If anything is going to loosen industrial glue used on the screen, it'd be that weather.

While I'm not saying this screen issue never happens, it's certainly not widespread enough to win a class action suit.
People who have received defective units like me are complaining. That’s why there is finally a class action suit.

It's minor in the sense that it affects a small subset of users, not a widespread problem. It happens in large scale manufacturing with thousands of varying external factors.
Yes, I can accept that. If so, then why should the consumer who got one of those suffer the consequences?

they will replace them. Once I got a series 1 (yay) and one was replaced with another series 0 (boo)

If its swelling caused by the battery they will replace it free of charge. There should be no issues but you have to make sure the tech support rep makes note of this. Each time they start out with the default script then put me on pause and come back with the newer details.

They will hold a charge on your credit card until the defect is confirmed to be related to this battery issue (and not just you prying off the screen or something :)) then you get refunded when the replacement ships.
They asked me for photos. Then sent me the box. No hold on credit card.

I've done this twice.

There is a chemical reaction happening on the wrists of all Apple watch wearers. The battery has a reduction reaction which when stopped causes the battery to expand and pop the display. Rare stuff but battery technology is as old as mother earth.

I went to the Apple store to get the Nike edition sometime around the release, and an Apple employee told me that he walked out of a party and noticed the face had fallen off of his watch. He couldn’t explain it. This was before it really blew up as an issue on this site.

Don’t know why they didn’t help you, but sounds like something you failed to do or your story is missing details.

2 months should be a simple warranty issue.

There was a case on here where the face had detached on someone as they were going about there buisness and the customer hadn’t realised resulting in a lost screen.
Apple wouldn’t deal with them unless they had all the parts.
So whilst most people have had it dealt with satisfactorily there’s certainly others who have not.

Been wearing my Series ZERO since July of 2015. No issues. It's just a little slow. How about a speedup before you drop support, Apple?

The screen was separating on my Apple Watch 3 just a few weeks ago. I googled it and ran into some threads where people complained about the same issue, some stating they were denied a replacement and instead accused of inflicting the damage themselves. My overall take-away was that there would soon be a class-action lawsuit. So, here we go. Also, my hopes were not very high when I called Apple, but to my surprise, I was immediately sent a new watch without any problem. The only thing that I was a bit puzzled about was that there was no message, notice, or anything associated with the replacement. Normally, the first response would be, "We are evaluating your issue and will let you know what the options are", or something like that. Also, when I got the replacement, there was no message like, "We determined that there is a defect, and we're sending you a replacement free of charge". Simply no communication whatsoever. I am sure Apple did not want to give any ammunition for a lawsuit that they probably foresaw a while back already. Anyway, Apple did the right thing in my case, so I am happy. Doesn't seem to be the case with everyone, though. Hopefully, those will be sent a replacement as well.

When I moved from my series zero to the series 3, the difference in performance (including with things like Apple Pay) was an epiphany. I recommend it heartily.

Actually a series 3 gear watch is pretty damn good. Not saying it is better than AW but very comparable.

[doublepost=1528415749][/doublepost]It seems more in this thread have the screen problem than don't. No very scientific bit it is still a problem and maybe not such a small one
