Well Apple basically gave us two options:

Accept a very controversial design (notch), a premium price tag ($1000) and the omission of a very convenient feature (Touch ID)...

Or

Be stuck with the same old design 4 years in a row with marginal upgrades.

Obviously.

I think you’re right. So apparently there’s just a lot of general anger out there and people need a place to come and scream. This must be a lot of people’s chosen venue for that.

People just want to voice their opinions and feel they are being heard. Ultimately we don't give a crap about what they think, personally.. I just want to use that fox emoji on my new emoji maker.. LOL /s

I am literally dumbfounded by all the hatred for Apple

Obviously.
Took a few pages, but now you understand some of the reasons why people posted negative content complaining about the iPhone 8/iPhone x.

Tbh, the notch doesn't bother me at all, but the lack of Touch ID and how they replaced the home button with swiping does.

No you have a third option switch to Android. The S8 doesn't have the "notch" that some how has taken over your life.

Apple runs a business. During times that you are angry or upset at their decisions, remember that they do not care about you and they want to create products that they can be profitable on. The same as any other business. They do not owe you anything. They take components that they pay for, make a product, and sell to the masses. If you do not like said product, do not buy it. Competition is great. Lot's of options out there.

My title says it all. I am literally dumbfounded by all the hatred for Apple I see on here. What’s most mind numbing to me is where the hate is being posted. I would understand if I were on a Android forum or something, but of all the places I’m on macrumors. It’s truly saddening to me, and I’m not a fanboy, but rather just a fan and longtime user of Apple products. With all the visceral energy here spewing of hatred you would think that Apple had kidnapped your first born. I just don’t get it. We all pretty much know what’s coming now days with most every new product release since the rumors are more or less spot on. As far as the iPhone X goes, did any of us really expect Apple not to continue down the path they have always taken? Their path as I see it has always been one of doing things in such a way that their users adapt and end up loving their products. I could be off on this, but I suspect many will fall in love with the iPhone X. I will admit that the two things I’m scratching my head over are the asymmetrical screen with the notch at the top and of course the reliability of Face ID. But I suspect in time just as with all Apple products that they will nail it and all the apprehension will fade into the background. Thoughts?

This happens all the time in this forum whenever a new product appears. But you see Apple is a big company with a big team working on any new product each time. When you seriously look into it, it is kinda absurd to think that someone behind the keyboard could think about something, or could assume that they know about something that none of the people in the development team could have thought about first.

There are a lot of assumptions by forumers here that Apple simply overlook this and that. Just wait for the dust to settle. And when people actually starts to own the product, it is when the real complaint comes and it will be nothing as major as now.

Im so invested into the apple ecosystem that switching to android wont work and that really sucks .. i guess ill just stick with my 7+

The S8+ looks great but for some reason it seems tall and thin .. wish it was a tad wider

I’ve always understood being frustrated with Apple. What I don’t understand is “Apple is dead to me” comments, and worse even. It’s cool though, I get that we are living in very volatile times. As I said, I guess this forum is some people’s beating stick. I mean look, my post is very non threatening and yet a few people have even attacked me here. A lot of pent up anger or insecure people just needing to be right I guess. It’s all good. I’m not crazy about Face ID, the asymmetrical top, or no home button either. LOL ;)

I actually don't care about the notch, but I do care about having to unlock my phone almost 100 times a day with something less convenient.

And no, people do not want to switch to android. If Samsung took away an essential feature, their users can vote with their wallet and switch to any of the other android flagships. iOS users do not have that luxury.

You could buy an iPhone SE, 6s, 7, or 8 though, right?

The notch actually doesn't bother me either. Even the swipe up I think I can get use to. The omission of Touch ID really makes this a tough purchase for me though. I need a lot more convincing to buy into Face ID.

Which is exactly what I was referring to in my original post,

"Or be stuck with the same old design 4 years in a row with marginal upgrades".

Actually you do you could buy a iPhone 8 it has TouchID. Plus how do you know its less convenient have you actually used it? Actually if my phone is next to me and I tap the screen and swipe up and its unlock that sounds pretty convenient to me. I mean you have to look at your phone to use it right?

I will give Apple the benefit of doubt before I say its not going to work and just push it aside. My advice and you probably already thought of this, wait for the reviews. Hope it works better than retina scanning on the S8 cause that **** just sucks.

Like I said in my original post regarding the 8,

I know it's less convenient because I saw dozens of videos of people using it. None of which are faster than me pulling my 6s out of my pocket and already unlocked before it reaches my face.

The question for me isn't whether it's less convenient or not, it's how much less convenient and whether I can live with it or not.

You really have no idea what hatred actually means. That, to me, is sad.

Mike
I’m sorry that my perception of hate and yours aren’t in alignment. Statements like “Apple is dead...” that’s a pretty strong hateful comment. Have a wonderful day.

I can understand that. But hasn’t this sort of been a trend industry wide? I mean correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t the Samsung devices priced up there as well? Apple has always been known to carry that “premium” price tag.

Just because many companies are in agreement to inflate prices, that doesn't make it right or acceptable IMO.

I felt AT&T was a ripoff a couple years and sprint/verizon were following suit, so I went with T-Mobile.

Prices will always suck, because consumers stay apologizing for billion dollar companies and just accepting whatever they do.

Yup, that's what I'm gonna do. I'm not convinced by Face ID but I'm not gonna totally dismiss it just yet. As long as it's not a significant inconvenience I'll still buy the X, it's less to deal with than switching to android.

I get where your coming from because I can pull out the phone and press the button before I've even looked at the screen, so yeah I get it. Lets just hope it works. The only other option was to put the button on the back and could you image the **** storm that would have caused?

Yea I see that now. Understandable, but still gives you options if you aren't willing to try Face ID. You'd still be getting the updated processor, camera, and wireless charging.

I run hot and cold on this, to be perfectly honest.
Spend 700 dollars on a product that has had minor updates at best, or drop a few hundred more and get some really impressive updates, though I'm not sure how (especially on a gen 1 product) will work.

The idea of buying a 7 on swappa is gaining traction to be honest. The price point is high 400, low 500s for mint or new iPhone 7 models.

Frustration for me.

The notch is a deal breaker for me, the same way "Edge" phones are a dealbreaker. I just don't like them.

Ive tried Android and wasn't impressed, so my only option is to stick with IPhones. Not only are iPhones getting more expensive, but the design doesn't fit my needs. The X will sell out and people will love it, but it doesn't change the fact that I've been waiting for a redesign of the 6 for years, only to be universally disappointed. It seems there are many others that feel this way, hence the increase of negative posts.

Forums will always bring out the worst, but they can also be a good barometer of overall opinion.

I'd take this any day over the X, if it ran iOS.

Apple usually gets it right, but this time they sold themselves to gimmicks, instead of design.

It's funny how most on here see upgrading as the only option (not you specifically, but a lot of posts). Most people love the SE, I am sure you are in the same boat. Keeping your current phone might be your best bet.

I do love my SE, but the home button seems to be having issues, I've had to disabled TouchID, and pressing it feels like something is wrong. I may have a ticking time bomb, and I need my phone every day.
