Or we can just believe Apple because it does have an environmental impact regardless of what people in the forums imagine their motive was. I mean it's not like Apple has a long track record of making environmentally positive decisions. I don't expect this will bother Apple customers as much as it bothers people on forums. As an Apple customer I'm happy that they're not including extra environmental waste with their products. Now we just have to wait for Android phones to catch up.
Wet finger in the air, is that by not including earpods and charger, it seems to be a true statement of a positive environmental impact all around. I personally applaud Apple for doing something about e-waste, while keeping the cost of the iphone 12 consistent with last year.

This clip is better than the one someone posted yesterday in terms of seeing the colors - the Pacific Blue looks amazing here! Other than that, this is GMA. I would have been floored if the segment was an in-depth review. The only thing this guaranteed was a frenzy for the blue colors this year. Kind of makes me glad the Pro Max will be delayed a bit.

I'm considering bouncing back to iPhone for a 12 mini, and I'll already have the required charging brick, as my Pixel 3aXL came with a USB-C one. So even an Android user like myself jumping ship will be prepared for Apple leaving the charging brick out of the box. It will be an issue for a relative few, no doubt, but Apple is concerned with the majority on this one.

I agree but what makes the financial one a "true benefit" and not the environmental benefit not true? If I hate Apple I'm going to say it's because Tim Cook is a evil greedy villain and if I love Apple I'll say it's because he cares about the environment. Maybe he's a evil greedy villain that cares about the environment? I mean his motives are irreverent to the positive impact this will have on the environment. If positive change to the environment can be motivated by greed I'll support that. If it's motivated by love I'll support that too!
Its neither good nor bad for the environment to stop making chargers. Just think the path of the money through and you will figure it out.

that was a waste of time. aimed at people who just want to take dumb selfies pretty much.

the blue colour is awful. i'll be getting a graphite pro max.

yup, i bought so many 11 Pros so my house is overhelmed by the USB-C power bricks
Yeah exactly they make a big point about the environment but ship with a usb c to lightning cable ! How many have a usb c plug lying around .
No earphone or charger in the box? Now I need to spend $20 - $50 to buy a new charger? Apple didnt even reduce the price. Shocking !!!

I have to ask. Half the posts in this discussion talk about the million chargers people have but not type c I have to buy a charger. Half the posts are I needed this GMA to be technical.

You all realize your type a cables still charge the phone right!?

If you have a ton of type a cables/chargers you’re good to go!

They include the cable most of you don’t have which should be the one thing everyone applauds!

They included the more expensive cable. I have a million type a cables. They still work!

If you have type c chargers (I have a few) I now have a new cable for fast charging when needed.

We all know that right? We are all super technical on this site.

Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe you all throw out the type a cables and kept the bricks or something.

The one positive thing was that a premium cable was included. Hold onto it if you don’t have type c yet you’ll need it as type c becomes more mainstream. Otherwise carry on. Use what you have and have the charging experience you have had all along.

Let’s sound technical if we are all technical on this site. I have never used the brick in the box and honestly not even the cable I just use the cables I already have from Apple/Anker I probably still have my iPod Touch lightning cable in my kitchen. It still works and will still work on the 12 Pro.

Don’t cry I need a type c brick. You don’t. You don’t need MagSafe either. Just use your cables I know you all have.

If you want fast/fancy charging get a now cheaper brick/MagSafe and use it.

And yes I’ve touted multiple times the new phones could have included a coupon/new phone promotion that if you want a brick you can get one for the first 2-3 months at a Apple Store. That’s something they could have done. They didn’t. But the sky isn’t falling like many of you are painting it.

That was such a general of all general overview of the iphone even for network tv for non techies.

But that blue is nice. maybe because of all the super bright lights, it looks lighter.

I like that didn't include a charger brick and earphones. Seriously who uses the earphones and with zillions of charger bricks, what a waste.

I'm sure it's also to push the wireless charger accessory.

You have zillions of USB-C charging plugs?
I have zero, so that will be an additional expense when buying a $1099 phone if I want fast charging...

Yup. The Buttload of USB-C chargers in my home is overwhelming so I‘m glad that Apple is doing something for the Environment by removing the power brick. /s

Yeah, personally I'm all in favour of not bundling duplicates of stuff people already have with every phone, but the timing of this really makes no sense (because, as you imply, people have lots of USB A adapters, not USB C adapters). Why even include the cable?

Apple might actually now have an iPhone which is a winner - something they've sorely lacked since the 5 and original SE. That winning item being square edges so now you can balance the phone on its edge. You know, not having that is a terrible design decision which would make even Sir Jony Ive cringe.

So you have ZERO existing Lightning to USBA cables?

Kinda find that hard to believe...

That magnet didn’t seem very strong on that credit card wallet? She took it off so easily and even managed to move it around

MagSafe like features are nothing new, Sony has done this many years ago before USB-C ubiquitous.

It was developed that way for the sake of waterproofing convenience from early model Xperia. It's available in MagSafe like cable and dedicated magnetic charging.

While seems great, but most of magnetic solutions like this are mostly disappointed in real life. Either magnet is less strong, it was less functional with small device like smartphone. On Macs, MagSafe provides great relief when cable tripped, but on smartphones, it was simply annoying.

The only point of magnetic charging like this are justified for outdoor device exposed with water and sunlight, because less prone to damage rather than standard port hole charging (like Garmin Watch, bike power meter, etc). On phone that was not issue, hence Apple pushed heavily kind of charging type, which isn't prevalent problem.

Fear not, I think this is more Apple method to ditch port entirely in future.

If they really cared about the environment they wouldn't include a new cable for which most people don't have a charger. Thats the point. If they included a regular USBa cable inside box then their reason would make more sense, because people really do have a lot of regular chargers but not USBc chargers. This way it looks like they are just minimising the cost of production while increasing the prices so they can earn more money. I mean that is how business act, but to portray this reason as trying to save the planet instead of earning more money is a bit of a stretch imho

GMA sells paid spots? I wouldn't think so but anything is possible.

I don't know if they "sell" the spot. But I bet getting the exclusive first hands on of the new iPhones helps them out just as much as it helps Apple.

Free press for Apple
Increased attention on GMA

The portion where the Apple employee talked about the charger removal was super cringe. You can tell the hosts were not having it.

Apple is a company that relies on people's trust. Their customers trust them, that's their forte. This debacle isn't doing wonders in that regard because they are clearly lying to our faces and everyone knows it. Just admit you did it to cut costs.
Yet they will sell like crazy. You can’t please everyone and Apple and a lot of other businesses are ok with that.

I have to disagree. People have tons of type a cables. The world is going type c that’s just a fact. Apple is giving you something you may not have. As I said if you don’t need it now you will. If there was a type a cable in the box are you saying you would use it and only it? It would not be friendly to include the cable flooding the market in my opinion. I don’t have many c to lightning cables laying around there’s a good chance this is the first stock lightning cable I’ll use in a very long time. Think about it....

Well by that argument every story is a paid advertisement because they benefit from more viewers with interesting content.

We can agree to disagree. I think a lot of regular people are going to see this as Apple being cheap. Even the hosts of GMA had “wtf” look on their faces when they started talking about no charger and headphones.

ABC is owned by Disney, who’s largest shareholders, I believe, is still Steve Jobs’ estate? Sooo, maybe?
Also to add to the preposterous “it’s the environment!” line Apple is feeding us, wouldn’t it be smart for them to have a program to trade your old USB-A brick in for 25%-50% off the new USB-C? “Take it out of your drawer, and Apple will recycle it, so it doesn’t end up in a landfill”.
I think saying the Jobs estate owns shares of Disney who owns ABC who owns GMA might benefit from having their phone show up their show stretches into the conspiracy theory territory. As to the trade in idea I've seen that on here before and I think it's an excellent idea. Maybe Apple will do this!

We can agree to disagree and I think you point out something surprising to me.

Macrumors needs to make a PSA that existing type a stuff still works.

If I was Apple I would have stayed this during the keynote. It’s very apparent to me that many people don’t understand this. I can almost say they did it on purpose to let people think they need a new brick. But that’s neither here or there.
