Well, now that everyone agrees that Huawei have been spying on their users, this is only a logical step. Huawei has had their own OS on the back burner for quite a while. Whole nobody in the West will be using that, they can at least try in China.

What’s a much harder blow to them, however: Qualcomm, Intel and a bunch of other suppliers have also announced they’ve stopped shipping components to Huawei. While the latter aren’t as dependent on other companies as, say, Samsung, Google, Sony etc, they will still literally have to stop manufacturing phones until they’ve developed their own Modems etc.

What sucks most is, however, that millions of customers are left standing in the rain now. While security updates will likely still be released, feature updates will not be. Some very important google apps (Gmail, Maps etc) will stop working.

And yet America has provided zero evidence, to its citizens or to its allies, that Huawei represents a national security to our country or to our allies. Apparently Huawei's crime was taking the worldwide lead in 5G technology, both in terms of patents and shipping products, in a era where free-market beliefs have been supplanted with nationalistic protectionism.

Not true, there has been plenty of evidence

Going in with Apple facing some production or shipping issues soon.

Yeah, especially if China starts shutting down Apple’s production as a retaliatory measure

Imagine a world where Apple and Google captured the same amount of private information about you as they do right now (including location services, access to your phone's data remotely, etc.) -- except they willingly share it with the United States government upon ANY request (be it national security or otherwise), with no need for a court order or due process.

That's the reality for Chinese companies like Huawei.

Google is only allowed to continue its mass snooping because the US and the UK have full access to all that data.

Apple also gathers data but nowhere near as much and most voice requests, biometric data etc never leaves your phone’s encryption chip. App usage data isn’t even collected. Apple devices cost more on first glance, but once Google is done selling your data, even a mid-range Android device will cost you much more than an iPhone.

That won't do that now.

Too many workers there, earning decent salaries.

Not sure what China is going to do right now. They may even get back to the negotiation-table and give in on some issues. But only short-term.
I doubt we can hold'em down for a long time....

Though, OTOH, they have a similar age-structure problem than Western states, but at a much larger scale.

Says who?
You are just making it up, no?
Where is the evidence of this happening?

Honestly... talking is cheap isn't it?

The UK is our closest ally and within the inner circle who we share our most sensitive intelligence information. If they saw nothing from America's intelligence agencies to be concerned about for their own security then that tells me who to believe.
The UK used to be a close ally of the US but Russia is now the top US ally.

The countries you listed, while not outright banning Huawei, still question the security of their equipment and are looking at methods to mitigate potential risks.

while being pressured by the USA.

Read a few papers on the subject and learn; I stopped being paid to teach years ago.

China is not a country you should be stanning for in this context.

This is a ridiculous reply.
You are the one that should justify your statements. I've made none.

If you would like me to read something, just tell me what.
I cannot find anything to support your statements.

But they have shows a blatant disregard for the law throughout their history.
They have stolen trade secrets and copied product from Cisco and others.
This isn't speculation but fact.
Just like apple stole Qualcomm intelligence.

Who knows how much information was shared.

My point still stands that the US government is not going to supply evidence especially on subjects that they deem national security where sources can be compromised.

You either believe them or you don't.
That's handy. How many American lives were lost the last time American people "believed them"?

There is good reason why they have not been allowed in/near certain military facilities. Smart move, unfortunately a little too late

I've not seen ANYTHING publicly listed as proven that Huawei has stolen intellectual property (beyond a Gorilla Glass american competitor who's samples were loaned on NDA and destroyed with missing pieces) or full threat to mobile infrastructure with 5G.

The US Government has been challenged abroad even by global allies with no factual forthcoming details.

If anything thinks this is beyond the "Make America great again/first" business policy then watch the markets over the next 30 days as this trade deal is long overdue for a resolution.

Winners of a prolonged non resolute trade deal pending:
China:
Tencent
Baidu
Huawei

USA:
Google (potentially - I don't see this ban affecting their bottom line for better, long run potentially for worse)
Broadcom
Qualcom
Intel
ST Micro Electronics (eventually)

Europe:
Ericsson (pure global network strong-hold and innovator with GPRS/EDGE/4G/LTE and soon 5G) will get a HUGE market share uptake here.

a few others I'm not aware off.

Those with Huawei smartphones in the USA are going to be REALLY p*ssed off soon.

Do you have links to proving this? Facts that show they've ignored fixing issues which many of the cellular infastructure players from Ericsson, Nokia-Siemens (past naming), Motorola, etc have as well?

You're being disingenuous.

The countries you listed, while not outright banning Huawei, still question the security of their equipment and are looking at methods to mitigate potential risks.

You also left out the countries that do currently ban Huawei.
You said it yourself, potential risk, that’s overblown by the trump administration. The countries like Australia, Japan, Canada who did ban are part of the 5 eye who on their own have no political sway on the international realm, they rely on the us govt for influence and when trump say jump they say how high

About time for this to happen. Google is severely restricted in the Chinese market by illegal communist decree and it's only fair that they use their leverage outside China to push back. Business restrictions that are implemented outside of the rule of law are exactly what this whole trade issue is centered on.

And to those who say that Huawei is not complicit in spying or illegal activities should look at what Huawei themselves had admitted to doing in Xinjiang and elsewhere. Buying a Huawei product is helping to keep hundreds of thousands under lockdown and surveillance in Kashgar.

I trust that we’re doing what’s best.

I definitely feel like Apple is the KING of smartphones and a lot of these competitors are a rip off of what they did anyway.

Now, from what I understand, these competitors, who copied a lot, want to not just make cash but spy?

That’s bleeping ridiculous. It’s bad enough they’re getting rich off of something that, from what I’ve heard, was copied in many ways.

I do hope Apple does upgrade the iPhones big time though.

I'm not saying that the Huawei allegations are true or false.

What I am saying is that the US government isn't going to release the evidence in what they consider a national security issue. It would reveal their sources / methods and, just because the US isn't releasing the evidence, it doesn't make the allegation false.

apparently germany, france, england dont lol

and that's their prerogative.

Good riddance - Huawei is a terrible company. Low quality crap at premium prices. And very likely spyware on top of everything. I had a Mate 20 Pro - great speed, great camera. Abysmal screen, and glue dissolving around the edges after a few weeks worth of use. Never again

Maybe there’s a misunderstanding, what do you mean by “you’re so happy China won’t be able to do it”?
It's not even what I said.
It seems like you're trying to take the conversation into something else, not gonna happen.
